RAVENLOFT: PRISONERS OF THE MISTS FORUMS RULES

You agree, through your use of this forum, that you will not post any material which is false, defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy, adult material, or otherwise in violation of any International or United States Federal law. You also agree not to post any copyrighted material unless you own the copyright or you have written consent from the owner of the copyrighted material. Spam, flooding, advertisements, chain letters, pyramid schemes, and solicitations are also forbidden on this forum.

Note that it is impossible for the staff or the owners of this forum to confirm the validity of posts. Please remember that we do not actively monitor the posted messages, and as such, are not responsible for the content contained within. We do not warrant the accuracy, completeness, or usefulness of any information presented. The posted messages express the views of the author, and not necessarily the views of this forum, its staff, its subsidiaries, or this forum's owner. Anyone who feels that a posted message is objectionable is encouraged to notify an administrator or moderator of this forum immediately. The staff and the owner of this forum reserve the right to remove objectionable content, within a reasonable time frame, if they determine that removal is necessary. This is a manual process, however, please realize that they may not be able to remove or edit particular messages immediately. This policy applies to member profile information as well.

You remain solely responsible for the content of your posted messages. Furthermore, you agree to indemnify and hold harmless the owners of this forum, any related websites to this forum, its staff, and its subsidiaries. The owners of this forum also reserve the right to reveal your identity (or any other related information collected on this service) in the event of a formal complaint or legal action arising from any situation caused by your use of this forum.

You have the ability, as you register, to choose your username. We advise that you keep the name appropriate. With this user account you are about to register, you agree to never give your password out to another person except an administrator, for your protection and for validity reasons. You also agree to NEVER use another person's account for any reason. We also HIGHLY recommend you use a complex and unique password for your account, to prevent account theft.

After you register and login to this forum, you will be able to fill out a detailed profile. It is your responsibility to present clean and accurate information. Any information the forum owner or staff determines to be inaccurate or vulgar in nature will be removed, with or without prior notice. Appropriate sanctions may be applicable.

Please note that with each post, your IP address is recorded, in the event that you need to be banned from this forum or your ISP contacted. This will only happen in the event of a major violation of this agreement.

Also note that the software places a cookie, a text file containing bits of information (such as your username and password), in your browser's cache. This is ONLY used to keep you logged in/out. The software does not collect or send any other form of information to your computer."

The Ravenloft: Prisoners of the Mists Code:

1. "Be excellent to each other." All this means is that we will not tolerate mean-spirited, insulting, racist, xenophobic, homophobic, misogynist, sexist, transphobic, anti-semitic, Islamophobic, or slanderous posts. We don't expect this to be a problem, but there it is. If this happens in PMs, you can forward such PMs to us so that we are aware of it.

2. "Party on, dudes." We are all here to have fun, so LIGHTEN UP. This is supposed to be a place where people can relax, have meaningful or meaningless conversations, and generally enjoy each other's company. This is not a place for melodrama. The forums are there for people to help one another with their problems, but please do not *create* drama here on R:PotM. It will not be tolerated.

3. If you read something that offends you, 1) stop reading that thread, or 2) take a deep breath and calm down before you respond with your well-thought-out, rational response. We all grow when we are able to discuss and debate different viewpoints, so be open-minded, and WE DON'T ALL ALWAYS HAVE TO AGREE.

4. If you have a problem with another member, please try to work it out like the adults that you are. Don't go running to the admins every time someone posts something you don't like. We all have different personalities. We all have different views. Unless a post violates #1, we will not do anything about it. The admins are not judges, counsellors, or babysitters, and we have real lives outside these forums. If you have problems with people outside these forums (MSN, IRC, AIM, whatever), please do not bring it here to pollute this community.

5. If you aren't enjoying this forum anymore and you want to leave, just leave. Stop selecting that bookmark or typing it in your browser. That's all you have to do. Don't make a grand display so people will beg you stay. Don't send PMs doing the same. Don't ask the admins to delete your account. We will not. If an account is inactive after a period of time, it will automatically be deleted. That's all there is to it.

6. Your total signature space should not exceed 600 x 130, including multiple signatures or other adornments. This limit exists both to be considerate to those who have a slower connection and to make it easier to read posts.

Well, first of, I'm giving this a much needed  :bump: .
We have more than double the amount of forum members than this topic
has hits, so perhaps some might want to re-read this little thread.

Second, I believe we're all rather happy and relieved that PotM still attracts new
players on an almost daily basis and succeeds in maintaining a flourishing and mostly
healthy playerbase until this day (and hopefuly continues to do so).

New and old players alike have lots of questions on their minds, things to discuss and
experiences to share, thats for sure. Yet of late I could observe a certain repetition
in topic content as well as frequently asked questions.

6. These forums you use and hopefuly like (or don't) actualy do have a SEARCH funtion. Please use it before posting
away on things that might have been asked just a couple days ago.

This is not to encourage thread necromancy, nor is it to make you dig deeper and deeper through
piles of forgotten lore to get the anwers and information you desire.
It simply makes things a lot easier to find the correct content / topic for everyone else.

Rock on, people  :D

If you have an issue with the decisions made by a moderator, do not argue with them publicly. Either take it up with that moderator via PMs or send a PM to the forum Administrators. Our moderators are volunteers and the job is tough enough without having to deal with public arguments. Arguing with moderators on the public boards will result in deletion of the argumentative posts and a temporary removal of posting privileges.

Bumping this, you guys. There have been some terrible posts that have been cropping up lately for like the past few months. I don't remember this many threads needing to be locked in the past. Mind the rules, be courteous, and try to put some effort into your posting.

Bump

"You agree, through your use of this forum, that you will not post any material which is false, defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy, adult material, or otherwise in violation of any International or United States Federal law."

There has been a rise on harassing, profane and even some cases of sexually oriented posts. Please mind what you post...

Personally before I post something, I pretend like my boss is looking over my shoulder. You should think to yourself:

1) Is there any relevance for you to post this? (If not and you decide to post it anyway... then I see that as 'wow, this guy just HAS to get a word in' which makes you look bad. Personal input is always welcomed but not if it is irrelevant)

2) Is my post clear and concise? (If not then you risk people coming up with their own perspective on what you wrote... and that perspective could be incredibly negative. Try to think of all the angles and not leave room for misinterpretation)

3) Does this need to be said to the public? (If not then please send it to a DM (usually the case) or whoever the post is intended for. We have an inbox/outbox messaging system for a reason)

I've updated rules #1 and #3 to be a little more appropriate for the times.

The rules for posting in the Market Square section have been clarified.

Quote
[...]
 Do not run auctions, negotiate or otherwise discuss details of a trade on the forums.
Forum correspondence involving trade should be limited to agreeing on a time and place to meet up in game.
