A note in blocky Balok is pinned up outside the Eastern room in the Drain. It has a simple warning:

You have been warned.

[With the recent renewal of the Long Death's activity in the area, the mysterious figure known as "Domenico" has been spreading word in the Drain that he is again recruiting for the shadowy Order of assassins.  While it's not clear exactly what he's looking for in a candidate, all who seek perfection of the arts of death are encouraged to seek him out and make themselves known.  While accounts of this man's appearance and demeanor may vary, one thing remains the same on all accounts - his robe is emblazoned with the grim image of a skull bearing a black diamond on the forehead.]

It is not uncommon for all manner of raucous and lively noises to escape the Eastern private room, belonging to "The Crew". It would seem the business of the day was particularly rowdy for the criminals as shouts, strange chanting, prayers and the grating of steel can be heard throughout the day. Though the visitors are many and typically masked, by some counts not all that were seen entering the room over the course of the day were seen leaving.

In the early hours of the morning a tattooed gnome enters the Drain covered in blood, her suit cut all over and moving with great effort. She buys a bottle of whisky and disappears into the back rooms.

An unusual sight in the Drain: Two hooded women wearing amulets of the Wayfarer Kinship, moving without provocation, their weapons not deployed. The two seem to be seeking information, rather than confrontation. They receive little response to their inquiries or their knocks on various doors and soon depart, the muck dwellers quickly returning to their drinking, plotting, and games of chance.

After an unexplained absence, the figure known as Domenico briefly re-appears in the Drain.  His garb is now devoid of decoration, skull imagery, or golden accents - being a simple and functional black fighting robe.  Rather than returning to his meditations or usual business about the Drain, he kneels upon the floor in the dim lighting of the rest area and appears to work on a painting.

With an array of paints, brushes, and other miscellaneous items strewn out around him, he silently works away.  He's not seen speaking to anyone, and his attitude is reserved and perhaps even a bit sullen.  He doesn't appear to stop for food or any other kind of refreshment, his entire focus being devoted to his work and nothing else.  It as if his world only exists of the small area around himself.

Minutes become hours, and hours become a full day and night.  Eventually, he completes his work.  He takes the humble painting and hangs it unceremoniously on the wall across from the room used by the Ratters before taking his leave.

- - - - - - - - -

The painting itself is nothing special - simple materials were used to construct it and the frame isn't ornate or decorative.  The art, however, is the result of nearly obsessive attention to even the smallest detail.  The background of the image is a dimly lit clearing in a forest, a cloudy night sky overlooking the scene.  The main focus of the painting is a wererat standing at full height, facing the viewer.  The creature itself bears an unmistakably commanding presence.  Its intense, bright-green gaze peers directly out at the viewer.  At its feet are piled a number of gold rings, necklaces, goblets, coins, and other treasures.  It wears the torn remnants of a once-fine suit, but also bears a belt with various knives, pouches, and other "tools of the trade" upon it.  Both of the creature's hands are extended outward and bearing items, as if presenting a choice.  In the offered left hand rests a pristine apple - deep red and completely flawless.  In the right hand, a dagger is grasped, bloodied with the exact shade of red as the apple.

The creature's wrists bear strange, shadowy shackles upon them.  The coloring and technique is notably different here, as if the shackles bear some strange property and are not quite as visible and concrete as the rest of the image.  Notably, the shackles have been broken in the middle, the chain used to connect them having been severed.  They dangle harmlessly from the wrists - still present, but far from being able to restrict the movement of the creature.

In the background to the left, a small pack of sewer rats populate a space in the image.  They seem to be motionless, with about half of them looking up in awe at the larger creature, and half peering toward the pile of treasure at its feet.  On the opposing right side of the image, also in the background, a shadowy serpent slithers toward the creature.  The serpent has the faintest specks of deep red dotted throughout its harsh black eyes, and has leathery grey wings folded across its back.

No signature or artist's identifying mark of any kind is placed upon the painting.

Two women wearing Wayfarer Kinship amulets were seen at the steel door to the Drain, leaving stocks of holy water, garlic, holy symbols, and wooden stakes. They also left behind a note:

A woman in drab clothes with a white coat shows up down in the muck seemingly out of nowhere and buys some parchment from Crawler leaving a simple and to the point note

A bizarre and frightening sight has been occasionally spotted in the Drain, a freakish red-furred lupine beast with crimson eyes and sulfur black claws. Incredibly it was granted entry and, perhaps more surprisingly, has not struck at the denizens of the Drain during its occasional visit that seems to be marked with purpose.

After a few days with a response seemingly not coming or insufficient the woman, now in a better lab coat, has been reappearing and placing down a similar note with some added writing to her initial inquiry

A peculiar group was seen speaking to Hoth in the dead of night. The conversation appeared brief and too the point, with the group trickling off to one of the rented rooms. Muffled chatter could be heard through the locked door all through the night and into the morning, when the individuals then parted ways. Among those that were seen entering and leaving the room were a petite, tattooed woman, a man wearing well worn full plate, a much more petite gnome dressed head to toe in black, and a towering, green skinned caliban.

Loud, aggravated screams of a man echo throughout the halls of the drain during the midnight hours and into the early morning, evolving into a loud roar only to be abruptly silenced - with the incessant pounding on the doors fading along with them.  Two people are then seen leaving the room making their way to the bar, only to return shortly after.

A woman dressed in Morninglordian armor arrived and settled in the drain. Soon she would make herself clear she would offer healing and care for the needy yet she seems to be looking for something... or someone. Seems she spends her time around the cauldron next to Rattok.

[A note is placed upon the wall inside the Drain, in the space between the entrance and Hoth's bar.  It was stuck to the wall by a grim man in dark, hooded robes.  Not long after, he vanished back into the darkness of the tunnels below.]

Quote
You are hated.  You are feared.  You are pushed away because the world does not understand your arts and ambitions.  They are the many who are content to live unremarkable lives.  They are the many who kneel to the cowardly gods of light. Gods who are all too content to keep their followers weak without their blessings.

To exist among them you must remain docile.  "Stay here and enjoy peace", they say.  "We fear you will surpass us" is what they mean.  Torm's justice, Ezra's mercy, the laws of the land -- all of these exist to give the weakest among them comfort at the cost of culling the bold.  Servitude and submission is demanded in trade for security.  What a wretched price you have been told to pay.

We see your plight and hear your call.  To those who will not settle for quiet submission, we will find you.  Another path exists to explore your arts in full, and destruction is the gift to those who would deny it to you.

A man in a long black coat spent a good deal of time working in the common room yesterday, both brewing potions and other less savory activities. There were minor pops and flashes to be heard throughout the morning of tripwires being tested and retested, different contraptions and traps assembled, taken apart and reassembled. The room was left with smells of bits of flash powder having been burned and spare springs and levers strewn about the area he had been working. He would spend some time at the bar before disappearing into the back rooms with a lone halfling woman. The clear ringing of a few shots being taken from flintlocks would echo through the sewers. The man emerged from the back rooms some time later, and was followed soon after by the halfling woman.

— There is idle chatter from those who skulk about the sewers and the Drain.  Several victims' bodies have been found chewed and mangled outside of the entrance.  The rumors come as a bit of a shock, with such gruesome acts not having been seen in weeks... —
