[Knives himself sticks a poster on the front board of the Drain. The legible penmanship and grammar suggests he didn't write the notice himself.]

A pale, lanky, bestial Half-Orc comes in and out of The Drain with minor knick-knacks on a regular basis, as if hauling them in from some junk knick-knack warehouse.

Alone in the darkness of the sewers a wounded yathrin stares into the murky waters. Her flesh healed but her pride beaten. This night, she did not pray. Her anger and fear a confusing mix of shame, doubt and defeat.

[Something -- rumor purports it to be massive, towering over man and Caliban alike, with horns and hooves and legs as thick as a man's torso -- has come to the Drain, bearing gifts of food from the surface.]

[A human figure cloaked in black and white is seen about the Drain over a few nights. Their garb is a deal more clean that most of the denizens, and their persona exudes a certain air of confidence and familiarity with the foul locale. They post a few pieces of parchment about the place's walls, proclaiming that an unknown party is looking to hire skilled hands, and that they will pay well.]

[The figure garbed in black and white can still be heard and seen about the Drain, whispering to the barkeep and others lingering about the grim establishment that an unknown party is continuing to hire skilled professionals, and the promise for fine pay and future work is still on the table. A smattering of flyers is once against pasted onto the slime-covered walls]

[The bawdy, brimstoned tanarukk, the All-Girth of the Black Leaf, has been about the Drain as of late, and having a voracious appetite, has been making inquiries among the other miscreants and mercenaries as to what anyone might know about the contractors seeking "Steady Hands."]

A recent arrival of the mists has made his way to the Drain. One-eared, with red leathery skin and smelling of Sulfur, he constantly brings in junk to trade. Be it ragged cloth still carrying the stench of death to bits of string still damp with sewage. For the most part he comes and goes through the tunnels of Vallaki's sewers, clearly looking for more junk to trade. When he stays, he sits back to the wall, meditating with a small circular stone tablet. He doesn't seem to carry much of any worth on him, and looking at the way he has adapted to the lifestyle, one could say he has done this before.

[Not long after the word goes public announcing the upcoming contest of carnage, a tanarukk of the Black Leaf, the All-Girth arrives in the area, frequenting both the Drain as well as the southern forests and western outskirts.  She puts the word out that she seeks to acquire a few high-end varnishes and tonics, as she prepares for the upcoming fights. With her make-shift putrid tent and worn carpets, the vagabond-outcast carries her mangy home upon her back, setting up camp in the Drain at times, other times in the southern forest not far from the well. An odor of brimstone, skunk, and opium lingers in the air where ever she travels, suggesting the the horned she-orc is near.]

As of late, on occasion, an odor of brimstone drifts and hangs in the village air within the Market District of Vallaki. Again, the All-Girth returns to the Drain, the sewer-den and gathering ground of miscreants and misfits, swindlers and smugglers, and revelers and rabble-rousers alike. When not passed out in any old tent she happens to crash into, the horned, brimstoned she-orc spends her hours drinking and smoking from her hooka with the other denizens of the Drain. When at the height of her indulgence, the crack of a whip pierces the dank, stagnant air, as the tanarukk’s hideous, hoarse laughter echoes through the pipes that snake upwards to the village and streets above.

A small procession of red cloaked men and women in black leathers entered the Drain, and took their time sitting in the bar, and observing the goings on of the caliban, miscreants, and apostates that gather in that den of thieves. They were lead by a thin, short statured woman.  Some mumble as to what the Red Vardo Traders are doing in the Drain, and why.

Word spreads quickly amongst Drain denizens of a deadly bar fight between "The Gray Wolf" and "The Mystic", one renowned for his sword and the other for his magic. Nearly beaten at first by the Mystic's arcane might, the Wolf nonetheless left the magister dead on the floor, cut in twain. After smoothing things out with management, the Wolf left with little a word as the Mystic's limp body was taken away, leaving little more than a stain on the floor. . .

Fliers began accumulating all across the sewer underneath the Gray City. Covered in muck and grime, they are written in both Balok and Common - a call for all freaks, misfits, and outcasts to come down to the Drain and have a drink or two, and seek out the one named 'Rack' for work.

Rumors also began circulating around that man, the man who no doubt made these fliers, rumors questioning his motives.

But who could say?

A ragged and gangly caliban with moon-pale skin has recently taken up habitation among the Drain's shanty homes, calling himself "Drez Syzulzal" with self-proclaimed titles of adjectives ranging from "the Terrible" to "the Miserable" and all in between. He's shameless to spread word of seeking other wretches to find joint efforts in, benign or otherwise -- and always an interest in buying peculiar literature, marking him with the rare ability amongst Drainfolk to read.

Disturbingly jovial of his own self-depreciation and freakdom, Drez is decidedly more annoying than he is dangerous. But in the wakes of his sewage traversals and rat hunts, rodents have a tendancy to be crisply burnt or full of venom.

recently a new presence has been seen frequenting the drain, a man in black armor and brown cloak and hood spending a bit of time at the tavern, he seems normal enough if it wasn't for the scales running up on the flesh that could be seen.

Rumors begin to swirl about a Morninglordian who inhabits the Drain for a couple hours each day. He offers aid just as he does above the ground.

Dark night, spiced by a man wearing dark cloth; the promise of coin and violence entices an audience in the Drain, with the orator hurling hundreds of gold to buy their eyes and ears. He whispers with gilded words his full ideas to the better part of a dozen that crowd around him, after his loud declaration and threat against the establishments of Vallaki.

There is an increased bustle in the northern secrion of the drain as a man in a dark frock coat directs fired runts in rearranging furniture and cleaning out the room for currently unknown purposes. Several barrels of black powder and crates of sweet smelling opium are glimpsed amongst the more mundane goods. Perhaps these products will soon be available for sale?

The runt, Kigyo, has become a routine presence in the Drain. He's often found in the back selling goods and services. Rumors swirl of generous discounts to Drain regulars for an otherwise costly service.
A war refugee sought the Master. He said, "You are wise and serene. Teach me to escape the horrors of this world." And the Master blinded him with fire-irons. - The Book of Cataclysm
