Greetings all mist-dwellers,
As you may have noticed, there have been a few major changes as of late. As such, along with the other changes brought to the server lately, and based on the input gathered from the Community as a whole, the current death system has been revamped to better reflect the consequences of death.
It was felt by a majority that the current system did not put enough emphasis on death, which was viewed as trivial by most. As this is the Realm of Dread, fear of death should be present and death shouldn't be taken lightly. For this reason, after much deliberation and with input from the Community, we have once again adjusted the mechanics and rules governing death.
These adjustments may seem drastic at first, but consider that much thought has been put into them and they have been discussed thoroughly in the Community Council by the various representatives, who consulted the members they represent.
Here are the upcoming changes to the death rules:
The current mechanical consequences of death will remain and will now also apply when a character is raised (Raise Dead), but not when resurrected (Resurrection). With the new system, you will find yourself back at the location of your death when going through the shaft of light in the Near Ethereal, rather than a Shrine of Ezra, but you won't be able to return to life unless you were raised by a PC or NPC.
However, you can now talk to a NPC in the Near Ethereal who can bring you back to life in exchange for experience points, the amount of which is calculated using a consistent algorithm. Beware! You could lose one or more levels when respawning, based on your level. If you choose to respawn, you will be brought back to the last Shrine of Ezra your character was bound to.
We hope that these changes do not discourage you and that you help us investigate and evaluate them to continue improving our atmosphere
If you encounter any bugs with this system, please report them in the Bug Reports section so we may correct them as soon as possible. Thank you for your feedback and encouragement. See you in the Mists.
On behalf of the Community Council,
-EO
