Implement Non-Voracious Cannibalism
« on: January 11, 2025, 12:39:19 AM »
Hi. It's me. Suggester extraordinaire.

So, with the new overhaul to food and cooking being rolled out over the coming (WEEKS/MONTHS CIRCLE ONE), I think it's important that some method of non-voracious cannibalism be implemented, at the very least for Athasian Halflings.

Do I play them? No. Will I play them? No. But the feature *should be there*. Sustenance should be able to be gained via consumption of flesh, and I think testing the waters with the most iconic "Not Necessarily Evil Cannibals" would be worth doing.

It'd be as simple as taking Voracious and removing all of the maluses and bonuses except for gaining sustenance via corpse consumption, I think. My dev forte is in Morrowind, not Aurora.

Please keep this one on topic, folks; this isn't a thread to discuss the new system, it's one to discuss this suggestion.

Depending on how cooking ends up being implemented I do think it would be interesting to have a method, however... questionable, in-narrative, to extract humanoid meat from humanoid bodies as an ingredient. This is a horror server after all, and from what I've seen of the cooking system it may well be a valid "meat" option for recipes.

We're not talking about a dummy Feat, right? Just an expansion of the food system in general? Cuz I think it'd be silly to implement it as a dummy Feat.

Currently my idea is as a dummy feat simply to restrict it to the most notable subrace that would partake in such cannibalism without necessarily incurring an alignment shift. Ideally, it'd be an expansion to the system, but it'd require more DM oversight on the server.

The carveout against alignment shifts for cannibalism is meant to be very narrowly for spiritual cannibalism, where it is meant to be a means of honouring the deceased.

This is not the case with Athassian Halflings.  This is not part of spirituality for them, this is part of them being a vicious and violent people xenophobic of others.

I don't think the carveout applies.

Cannibalism will not be included in cooking at launch. It was brought up, but I decided that it, along with the broader question of meat sources in general, is more of a stretch goal.

It is possible, in future, that the way PCs acquire meat off corpses may be reworked, and that would be the sensible time to include humanoid meat, but not right now.
