pure black dye is not pure black with build 37
« on: January 10, 2025, 09:00:41 AM »

Where:
items dyed with pure black

When:
when using build 37 (the development branch on steam) rather then an earlier version

What:
pure black dye does not appear pure black, rather normal black with texture

Recreate:
dye an item pure black and using the build 37

Ideas:
i already checked/unchecked every graphic option in the in game menu, this does not seem to affect it.

Screenshot:

That's not a bug; we intentionally fixed Pure White and Pure Black so they can be unlocked. The release of patch 37 unlocked it.

not a big fan honestsly.

fixing the pure black does not really add anything, its now just another generic dark black/grey tone, of which we already have a wide selection.

having these pure colors without texture added some cool customization options (hiding ugly textures, highlighting details with accents etc.)
and with it only being accessable via a DM, any excessive abuse was already halted.

this to me seems a largely unnecessary change, that just detracts from creative and cool outfits.
we all know fashion is the true end game and this is a huge nerf to how fun it is.

Yeah, not a fan of this either.  I understand that it was probably done to try and avoid the painful Pure Black or Pure White outfits but I would have preferred those continue to be addressed on a case by case basis.  You could get some neat appearances using both in extreme moderation.

Also adding that this change defeats the purpose of what Pure Black/White should be, And just makes an already limited options for design even more so. The overuse with Pure dyes is best dealt with on a case by case situation than a blanket changing of it to something else entirely.

I kind of feel like Pure White and Pure Black were a bit jarring and immersion breaking to see on characters outfits, so personally I was happy with this change.

Ditto, I am not going to miss them.

Indeed, whilst Pure Black and Pure White, in their current iteration, had a few fringe uses, they were rather limited, hence why they were restricted.

With this patch, we'll be able to open those two new colors up to everyone. The black is a much darker shade of black, and the white is closer to gainsboro.

In the original poster's example, even with pure black, people could see the outline of the face. That hood, unlike the "original" one, isn't a blank face.

The main usecase for actual pure black or pure white in outfits is to triage models that look good but have washed out PLTs.  The fix isn't really to use those dyes.  It's to correct the PLTs.

Its not a blank face with actual pure black, you see the silhouette of a face, the hood is not empty.
The new pure black does not achieve this effect, the face looks like a creepy leathery child mask, not a actual face.

A fringe use color, that can be used creatively to great effects, with overview of DMs adds a lot more to the server then another generic shade of black IMO.

The old pure black being available for Shadowdancers or other dark curses via DM judgement might make sense, but otherwise it's a little cheesy.
