Warlock Energy Resistance & Polymorph
« on: April 22, 2024, 02:56:26 PM »
Noticed a bug with Warlock's Energy Resistance features, they disable when under any polymorph effect (leading to cold damage, from weather for example).

This is unlike Favored Soul's Energy Resistance, or the Resist Energy feat, both of which function with polymorph effects.

I suspect still that they're applied as if they're item properties, so possibly attached to the creature skin similar to a varnish in which case the properties won't transfer over to your polymorphed form.

It's an engine limitation they can't be applied like Energy Resist and Epic Energy Resist.

Maybe that feat and Favored Souls one could be applied as a floating effect similar to resist elements, but then it would be dispelled whenever you're knocked out and writing a script to refresh it back more often than whenever you rest adds to the server load slightly more than treating it as an item property that wouldn't have that issue.

Though supernatural qualities aren't meant to transfer over to polymorphed forms anyway.

A floating effect plus an item property skin wouldn't stack anyway so if they wanted to add it to polymorphed forms they could.

If you retain resistance while polymorphed that is a bug.

It seems like there's a lot of mixed perspectives on what is functionally happening! This was tested with spells and wildshapes.

Favored Souls -> Polymorphed -> Benefits from their Class Feats, resisting the selected energy type.
Resist Energy -> Polymorphed -> Benefits from the feat, resisting the selected energy type.
Warlocks -> Polymorphed -> No benefits against selected energy types.

Far as I'm aware, Favored Souls and Warlocks both use a similar setup (not functioning like Resist Energy, not stacking with items due to limitations). Warlocks are being affected differently, so I thought to post it.

"...gains all extraordinary special attacks possessed by the form but does not gain the extraordinary special qualities possessed by the new form or any supernatural or spell-like abilities." - Polymorph

"The creature retains the special qualities of its original form. It does not gain any special qualities of its new form." - Alternate Forms

Retaining resistances from feats post-polymorph shouldn't be considered a bug in my opinion, as you are already denied special qualities from the new form, nor does it say you lose any you already possess. You get to keep all your other feats, too.
