Drow Spider Cloak Chrome
« on: February 23, 2024, 03:55:12 PM »
The drow spider web cloak no longer has transparency available with chrome coloring. I’d get exact numbers but I’m on my phone. It’s been this way for a couple of patches.  I believe it can be fixed by re-checking a box that was supposedly unchecked, according to my sources.

Is there a reason why they should be transparent though?

The cloak is supposed to be webbing. Having a solid color where transparency is meant defeats that purpose.

Not to be a nagger but I'm just wondering if there's any intentions of fixing this cloak. It was really cool with the transparent option and I would like to use it on some of my PCs.

If we're going to add (or re-add) support for this we'll need to make sure that cloak raises OcR appropriately when worn to reflect its outlandish appearance.

Better raise ocr for all of the goofy animal head helm appearances and the illithid too while you're at it. And anything that displays a symbol of a native antagonistic faith such as Nerull while in Barovia.

At that point we're opening a large can of worms. Like what about the skull helmets also or plate mail covered in spikes? The guy looks like a necromancer, talks like a necromancer. But do it be a necromancer tho?

Probably.

And us as PCs can make that determination for ourselves. Plenty of times have people been shooed away for looking off putting or outright dangerous. That's why everyone puts away their weapons in broad daylight. They don't get OCR increases - But no one wants them to carry around a weapon. Seems logical.

I'm all for certain appearances affecting OCR but it's just really bizarre to me that we start with a webbed-cloak, when like people have previously mentioned in the thread, some characters have worn much stranger things for years now. Also- it could be argued that the cloak doesn't look that outlandish, it could pass as a netted cloak imo.

I would still use the cloak if it boosted my OCR, but if it's not going to get changed back I don't even see a point in it being on the server. It looks absolutely horrid without the transparent option and I don't think I've seen a single PC wearing it since the change.

I do think dumb things and ugly things should get the OCR boosted, but if we're going to go do it for one, we ought do it for all.

Adding OCR to different item appearances a slippery slope that will benefit no one, or any RP.

Personally I find it a bit silly to start adding OCR checks to certain items.  Entirely outside of that however, this change defeats the entire purpose of the cloak.  It's similar to the Tattered option (which I think is also on POTM?) where the use of transparent dye is solely to make the cloak model look as it is intended to look.

Yes; whether or not it should apply OCR is a seperate concern.  Right now the cloak is just redundant and doesn't serve its designed purpose.
