Barovia - Road to Zeidenburg

A Barovian farmstead outside of Zeidenburg was scene to a gruesome sight as the bodies of Iancu and Mirela Calinescu were found in their basement without their heads.  The word, carved in Luktar, "INVADER" was cut into Iancu's chest and a fire poker was left protruding from his side.  "BAROVIAN WHORE", also carved in Luktar, was cut into Mirela's back and a rat that had been coaxed to chew it's way into her guts, by use of fire and a pot strapped to her chest, is found dead inside of her.

Information leading to the arrest of those responsible for the deaths of Iancu and Mirela Calinescu.

Ten Thousand Fang is offered in reward to the party who apprehends the killer or killers.

Seek out Duccard Martel at the Lady's Rest outside the West Gate of Vallaki with any credible evidence and responsible persons captured.

Spoken amongst Gundarakites of the Wachter Province tell that a fellow of their kin is organizing an effort to repair the road to the south of Barovia of rubble, to reopen trade with the region.  Men parted with family in Zeidenburg, Teufeldorf, Berez, Cuzau, and other regions are urged to assist in the effort.

The organizing work party, however small or large it might be, is said to gather on Thursday, December 4th.

Workers are asked only to bring tools they have permits for.

A dozen cloaked individuals travel south toward the Dreadpass down the Road to Zeidenburg. The treacherous road is said to be plagued by wolves, bandits, and monsters of all shapes. Yet, these troubles do not deter these mysterious travelers who soon arrive in the city of Zeidenburg where many wounded and crippled people lie after a great battle wrested control of the city from Burgomaster Moraru under the control of Ardonk Sziereza. It is said these hooded figures are healers who have come to help the sick and wounded recover including both Gundarakites and Barovians who have suffered the wounds of war...

A heavily armored man could be seen entering a small cave along the road to Zeidenburg, in which he spent quite some time. Emerging after a while, wiping generous amounts of blood off of his gauntleted hands...

In the early morning hours of a cool December day, a wagon laden with tsuika and marked with the brand of the Romulich Orchard and Distillery stops at a large puddle of mud that stretches across the road, seemingly a product of the some unseasonable thaw. As the wagon's escort pause to take stock, a small boy accompanying his bunicul runs to splash in the large puddle, ignoring the calls of the elderly man. Moments later, fire engulfs the wagon, its escort, and the little boy. When flames alone don't silence the screams of agony, a hail of bullets and arrows does. What's left is corpses and ruin, and tsuika mingled with mud, ash, and blood.

[A quiet Barovian morning is interrupted by the tromp of heavy boots. Men and women, many wearing the Blue and Black of The Bellegarde Trade Consortium, are seen heading into the Bellegarde-owned woods near Zeidenburg. The following days see the air choked with woodsmoke and the sight of fire through the thick canopy.]

[Sounds of battle erupt during the day in the woods, through grow quiet after a few hours. Over the next few days the smoke clears from the air, and the lights of burning flames return to darkness.]

A reanimated body is left, posed in some mockery of prayer before a shrine at the top of the hill, beneath a great and beautiful tree...

Grotesquely slaughtered carrion have begun to populate the roads toward sweet Berez, each frenziedly feasted on to varying amounts of ruination. Some poor carcasses lay desiccated by the wayside, whereas others are fresh marks. It seems at least somebody is enjoying a good meal, these days.

In the dead of night on the roads towards Berez, screams of bloody murder are heard ringing out from the darkness along with bouts of laughter that could have only originated from the insane.

As dawn breaks through the thick foliage, the sun would warm all that remained.

Those that travel nearby would smell the thick scent of iron lingering in the air; A precursor to the bloody scene that awaited those that pressed further.

Hidden away in the foliage of the forests one may find a slowly crumbling shrine complete with spoilt offerings to deities unknown. The stench of rot and decay permeates the adjacent area.

A young knight in green armour as been seen patroling the road at night from time.
He seemed as if looking for something, a blessed blade in hand illuminating his paths through the woods.

Activity returns to the Berez forests as the eve's fair silence is broken by a bloodied scuffle between creatures of the night. Remnants of the commotion find themselves beholden to the Barovian rains.. Soon to disappear.

Again, the Knight patrolled the road, and investigated the are for the day before leaving the woods once more

[In the night an exchange is made inbetween two people, one dressed in black and red. After the conclusion of the short conversation the figure in black is seen headed towards Berez. And only a few hours hours later screams emerge from the road near Berez.]

Men at arms cladded in black and golden armors were spotted marching quickly searching for something along all the Barovian Borders

[A massive explosion in the middle of the night thunders through the mountains, and over the lake. Though a momentary cloud can be seen rising from the cave system near the crossroads just after the bridge towards Krezk and Berez. Upon investigation a partial collapse of the cave is evident, though something or someone has dug their way out.]

Not far from Berez, along the water's edge stands an eerie stone. Cool to the touch, it hums with a subtle, awakened energy...a palpable presence. The stone is threaded with veins of a darker mineral, giving it a marbled appearance. Its surface is rough and uneven.

[along the road to Zeidenburg, on scattered Nharov oaks, distinct carvings of a stag have been worked into the tough bark of several of the gnarled trees. They can seen by observant travelers...]
