Suggestions on smithing
« on: June 01, 2023, 02:14:17 PM »
Hello everyone
After playing two smiths, I have a few suggestions I'd like to share.

1. Reduce the duration of the smelting animation. Is it the longest animation of all the crafts? I have no idea. But I know it's long.

2. Make available a type of container for arrow and bolt heads. They are not end products, so I don't see why not. I'll possibly regret making the analogy, but here it goes: we have containers for essences. In a way, they are the arrow heads of alchemy. Please, don't take it from us based on this analogy.

3. On the same product, would it be possible to craft a bunch of arrow and bolt heads without the need to take the one already crafted from the anvil first? I know the behaviour is well known, and I suppose it's not intentional, ergo a bug. If it's intentional, my suggestion is to rethink the behaviour. If it's a known bug, it's giving it a higher priority.

Thanks. By the way, I love the crafting system. It's one of those things that makes PotM really special.

Cheers

My personal thoughts on this, as I've brought 3 separate PC's to mastery on these crafts:

1. The smelting animation is fine in my opinion. The one that does vex me is the gilding animation, for it takes roughly 30 seconds to complete, for a craft you can do only 1 product at a time.

2. A type of container for them does exist, at least for the templates. Have you tried putting them into normal crafting bags? You cannot buy empty ones at the smithing merchant (Which would be a good addition), but you can buy a bag of the templates, smith them, and put them back in said bags. Not 100% if you can.

3. I believe comments on this had been made prior, and it was indeed a bug with the crafting system. If I am not mistaken, MAB has stated a few times prior that there is no real fix to this issue.

1. I'll have a look at that, but do consider that the animation pause is a conscious choice to slow down crafting. We acted significantly already to reduce the grind on the crafting processes.

2. It's on my to do list already, just no ETA at this time.

3. This is not a bug but a byproduct of the crafting script. Arrowheads are registered as a crafting component. When the script finds one in a crafting station it tries to match it with other components to complete a recipe. Finding none, it tells you that components are missing to complete a crafting. There is no workaround to this. However, it *might* be possible to bulkcraft arrowheads (I'll think about that, again no promises).

Thanks for your replys.

Expanding point 1, the reason I only talked about smelting is that it's a "base craft", for lack of better term. It's not different from sawing wood, mechanically speaking.

About the ammunition heads, since they are tagged as a craft component, adding a bag for them could be something easily(?) implemented? Also, having this bit of information, I understood the origin of the behavior. Aren't essences also tagged as craft components? It would be awesome if we could change the behavior.

So I delved further into this. Much to my chagrin, point 2 will not be possible. It would require that I create a huge quantity of new items in the palette, which is not sustainable. Bulk crafting arrowheads fares no better, at this time, but there is still a dim chance that it can be pulled of.

Thanks for the feedback.
Well, a tiny chance is still a chance. Fingers crossed for a natural 20 here! :)

After giving it some more thoughts, and with the unanimous support of the dev team, we will normalize and shorten the crafting animations duration. This will come alongside the changes announced for the crafting system.

Doing a lil' bump out of curiosity to ask if this was ever implemented?
I haven't noticed any changes to crafting animation durations, and it's been a while since the announced changes were implemented ^.^

I am finalizing some details for the new shaman class, but I still intend to complete this before the next HAK update.
