Hello prisoners,

It is with pleasure that we inform you that we are expanding the possibility of submitting in-game books. You may post your own written works here to be considered for adding as an in-game item.

This thread will work similarly to the Item Request Thread, with the difference that these will not be open to public discussions. Just submit your texts here and the staff will do the rest.

Be aware that not all books will be added in-game.

Only those we deem well written and enriching to the game world will be considered, though all your submissions will remain available to be read in this thread unless it is deemed necessary for removal by the PotM Staff. We will provide no feedback on your stories, but will indicate it if a given submission is to be added to the module. We will also decide where the book is to be made available in-game and which cover icon will be used, though you may include suggestions in your post if there is a particular location or icon you feel works best for the item.

The rules
  • The texts must be written in English and require minimal or no editing from our part.
  • We reserve the right to edit for length, content, spelling, grammar, and readability.
  • No secret, forbidden, or OOC knowledge.
  • The content should be lore and setting appropriate.
  • A single book can also be about a group of characters, a faction, or past events of significant importance. Examples include:
    • Character-written books (covering your own character, another character, general events)
    • Setting books (eg. if someone wants to write The Dogma of The Eternal Order, or some 3rd person narrative, etc.)
    • Treatises, essays, collections of poems, biographies, prayer books, legends, stories, factual information, etc.
There is no actual limit to the size of your texts, but it is better if they are kept relatively short.

Please be patient; Books may only be added with a hak update, so there may be a delay between the acceptance of the story and the moment it is put online.

Title: The Twenty Steps Of Enlightenment

Icon: iit_book_009

Suggested locations: Houlgraves, Port-a-Lucine Library, That exotic shop in Vallaki that sells Rokuman stuff.

Content:
Strengthen Your Mind

To begin aspiring for the First Stage, you must meditate. Find a place of peace- many Monks are capable of meditating anywhere, but when first beginning you will need silence and solitude. Focus on emptying your mind of all thoughts- enter as quiet a state mentally and physically as you can, then begin to think of your code. Each line, each word, let them resonate through you as you meditate on them. You should do this for as many hours as you can, without breaks for food or water until you are finished. Do this every day until your code is second nature to you- until the words are as easy to recall as your own name.

Strength of Body

But there is no special secret to physical training- like everything along the Stages of Enlightenment, it relies on dedication and hard work. To properly train your body for the physical requirements of being a Monk, you will have to undergo both a training regimen and a diet. To begin, first you must limit your meals to three times a day, they must also be of reasonable size. Too much and your body will gain too much fat, too little and you will be unable to build the muscle required. Your meals should consist of meat and vegetables, fruit as well if you can reasonably acquire them. Avoid heavy desserts, food made with excess oil, excessive alcohol, and anything using too much sugar.

Practice Makes Perfect

Continue channeling the Ki as often as possible, as Stage Five comes passively once your body has adapted to the ki's use and is doing it subconsciously. As your monk training continues, you will notice that you no longer have to consciously channel your ki for certain thing and likewise, the Ki will start to mesh and adapt to your body. This will become a recurrent theme in future chapters and you will ironically find your life becomes easier the further along the path you travel. Counterintuitive as that may sound, the simple reason is as you progress, your mind is becoming more disciplined and your body more accustomed to physical strain.

(The full work is available on the forums.)
Not 100% sure if the ooc note about the forums is fine or not, but that's easy to remove if not. : )

//Will not be considered for inclusion at this time as it is incomplete. Consider submitting the whole thing. Length is not an obstacle, though it can be divided in several books if you wish. MAB.

Title: A Practical introduction to the Akiri Ma'at By Phillberte d'Alard
Icon (book's appearance, if known): il T_BOOK_033

Suggested locations: Port-à-Lucine library, Houlgreaves, The University of Dementlieu
Content:
Spoiler: show
Introduction:
Har’Akir is a fascinating and unique location within the mists. With the multitude of temples, crypts and other ruins located within the sands many would be archeologists and graverobbers flock there.Often individuals assume that the Ma’at is simply a code of laws. This is not the case, but why is understanding it important to an archeologist? What could an enlightened society like the serene republique gain from understanding it? During my time within Har’Akir I have both spoken with natives and studied their ancient culture. This has brought me to a conclusion that to truly understand Akiri culture, one must have an understanding of the Ma’at as it is essentially the foundation of the study.

Part 1: A brief history of Har’Akir
Understanding why the Akiri hold the Ma’at so highly in their culture involves understanding their past and how that has shaped the present. According to Akiri legend the Ma’at existed from before the isolation of Muhar caused by the phenomena known as the “Wall of Ra”. In the past Har’Akir was a much more prosperous land ruled by pharaohs that is shown by a variety of precious coins I have found within the ruined temples. Ma’at practice existed then, a code of life striving to bring the populace closer to the gods. It was during the rule of the last pharaoh, Anhktepot, that ruin came to the Akiri people. Anhktepot lusted for more than his station and defied the gods cursing the akiri sun god Ra. For his defiance Anhktepot was cursed and created an army of the dead. Those close to the pharaoh struck against him for his arrogance, mummifying him while he was still alive but it was too late. The servants of the god Set began to gain traction in the land and corrupted the temples of the other gods as well as the Wall of Ra phenomena appearing and cutting off the settlement of Muhar from the outside world. As time passed Muhar fell more and more into ruin until it reached the state it is in today.

Part 2: The Ma’at
Ma’at translates roughly into harmony in the common tongue. There are seven principles that consist of the modern Ma’at all with the intention of bringing the Akri closer to their gods. In Akiri mythology the god of death, Anubis, weighs someone’s heart against the weight of a feather. If they weigh less than the feather they pass forward. By following the principles of the Ma’at the Akiri believe that their heart will reach this. Truth, Justice, Harmony, Balance, Order, Reciprocity and Propriety. The current version of the Ma’at is less religious than the ancient version from before the formation of the wall of Ra; serving more as a constant state of redemption in hopes the desert may flourish again rather than supplication to the divines. The Akiri believe that adherence to it avoids the “wrath of the gods”.  The Ma’at is more a philosophy and way of life than anything as wholly strict as a rule of law may be elsewhere. It is also worth considering that these principles apply to many other aspects of Akiri life including Law, Morality and Spirituality. As its name translates the Ma’at is a harmony.

Part 3: The Seven Principles
-Truth: Truth in how the individual goes about their day. Honoring your dealing with those you interact with and the divine. It also can be the ability to understand the difference between real and unreal. What is, what has been, what will be and what may be decided.
-Justice: Justice is the concept of equality. One birth is not above others. In the golden era of Akiri culture even the Pharaoh was chosen by the divine to serve a role. Through understanding one’s role in life one is able to contribute to society’s advancement.
-Harmony: The state of being in which different expressions of Divine Spirit, humans, animals, plants, and others move together in ways that create alignment and beauty.  Each expression must be authentic and express fully all that it is created to be. It is only through authenticity that harmony can truly be achieved, and occur naturally when each entity is being true to it’s spiritual reality.
-Balance: A state in which the internal and external environments of an individual, or group are aligned with the Divine, nature, one another and the rest of creation. It is the experience of existing in the place where opposites meet, the creation point, where new life is generated and new possibilities come into being.
-Order: A state of being in which things are arranged in ways that are uncluttered, free of excess, clear.
-Reciprocity: The belief of what comes around goes around. There is motion, rhythm of cause and effect that moves forward and backwards. Similar to the concept of divine karma. The actions of individuals affects what is to come.
-Propriety: The circular way life must be. It teaches to not do harm on to another, that the truth is every living thing deserves to exist including the self.

Part 4: The Cultural Value
Why does the Ma’at matter for the study of Akiri culture? It is a belief and mindset that permeates every aspect of akiri life, not only today but also in the golden era of their culture. The tenets of the Ma’at are relatable to an enlightened society such as our own. Order, Balance, Justice, Harmony and Truth are all ideals we should strive for as a people. It is not these ideals themselves that cause the atrocities of Akiri culture to justify slavery rather that they are twisted by barbaric men and women TO justify them. Though some of the Akiri Traditions are barbaric to those of us in the republique from the outside, they are based on ideals that when not taken to the extremes or distorted can only help make a greater land to live and thrive in.

Title: A Dissertation of the Rajian Caste System By Phillberte d'Alard
Icon (book's appearance, if known): il T_BOOK_036

Suggested locations: Houlgraves', Port-à-Lucine library, University of Dementlieu
Content:
Spoiler: show

The lush Verdant Lands and in particular the humid jungles of Sri Raji are full of vibrance and life. These jungles are full of life and this extends to the human population as well as the fauna. With only three cities within these humid jungles the massive population in the multiple thousands are found. As I have stated in my previous work the Rajian people live under a strict caste system that permeates every aspect of Rajian life. It is my belief that understanding their caste system, even if at a glance and in broad terms, will only aid in proper study and relations should you ever find yourself dealing with those of Rajian birth.

A Brief Synopsis
The Rajian belief of reincarnation is an essential component to understanding the workings of their caste system. It is of Rajian belief that all life is within a constant cycle of birth, life, death, and rebirth where your actions in life affect where you will be in your next life. It is only those who through self perfection, actualization, and piety that souls will move up the castes and eventually break out of the cycle achieving the state the Rajian call Nirvana. This movement is not always forward, as those who are wicked will be punished in their next life. Though there are thousands upon thousands of castes within the system there are four major categories that they are all wrapped into; The Brahmin caste which consists of priests and sometimes great heroes. Members of this caste are an extremely rare sight to meet. The Kshatriya is the caste of nobles and heroes of the Rajian people, they are also rare to meet. The caste of most common folk is called the Vaishya. This would include merchants, craftsmen and other more skilled professions. The class of the poor and the bottom caste is classified as Shudra. This includes farmers and others that society feels is easily replaceable. Many within Sri Raji believe that this system originated from their god of creation Brahma with the Brahmin representing the eyes and mind of Brahma, the Kshatriya representing the arms, The Vaishya representing his legs and the Shudra representing his feet.

The Shudra
Our journey through these castes will begin at the bottom, The Shudra. This caste is quite numerous and consists of many of the laborers in the rice paddies as well as those who do more manual labor. From my interviews with members of this caste who were displaced by the mists, the life of a member of this caste is quite rough. The individual spoke of how their work was as a rat catcher. Their caste within Rajian society was low even within the Shudra; they are looked down on by those that worked in the rice paddies, an example of how this hierarchy persists even within the categories. The common expectation for those of the Shudra to provide their service or good, to work until they dropped dead for as the interviewee said “My rewards, were in my next life. The better I did my role, as a woman and a Shudra, the better my next life would be.” The attitude from those higher on the caste system was generally that the Shudra are to be mindless bodies and that their duty is to serve. Beyond these expectations and the expectation that the Shudra are replaceable, the caste as a whole is illiterate. It is forbidden to teach Shudra letters as it is believed it damages their ability to serve and work. When I pressed the interviewee on this matter, saying wouldn’t written orders be easier for them to follow, their response was “It would be, but (are) the benefits are worth the risks? An educated servant is more useful than an uneducated one, but they could be inclined to forsake their duties.”

The Vaishya
The next group up in the caste system is The Vaishya, a caste of more skilled laborers and craftsmen. During my initial trip to Sri Raji the farm foreman I met was of this caste and this was also the caste my group was perceived as by the locals, though outsiders, it would be my studied assumption that we would be in the lower rungs of the caste. The Vaishya have more liberties than the Shudra; they are allowed to learn to read as well as own property. To use the analogy of the body, the Vaishya are the legs that support the rest of the body. Though fraternization between the castes is restricted it often falls on the Vaishya to manage the Shudra. As with the Shudra, this caste is much larger than the other two castes. Most that you will encounter if you travel to Sri Raji will be of either the Shadya or the Vaishya.

The Kshatriya
Moving further up the castes we come to the caste of royalty as well as many warriors. This caste is much more rare than the previous two and also seen as much less replaceable than the others are. Those in this caste are, at least by Rajian society, considered to be highly skilled and important. You are quite likely to find generals and those descended from war heroes. High ranking administrators also would also fall into the Kshatriya.

The Brahmin
Upon the pinnacle of the Rajian castes is the Brahmin, home to great heroes, priests, and even the Maharaja himself. The highest of the Brahmin would be the high priest or priestess of Kali the primary god of Sri Raji with the attendant priests falling below them and then other gods following behind. The Polythistic nature of the Rajian society makes this quite an interesting category to look at from the outside. My scholarly opinion on this matter would be that below priests of Kali would be those of Tvastri as the Rajian people, despite their superstitions, do value knowledge and wisdom and that is what Tvashtri represents. By all I have been able to find it takes quite a few reincarnations to even reach this caste let alone to push beyond it to Nirvana.

Chosen of Kali
There is one way that those of any caste can gain more respect than tied to their caste is to be chosen by Kali. When one is slain by Kali during the nightly sacrifices they are elevated from their current station as to be chosen by the gods is a great honor. Likewise those who actually RETURN from this fate are seen as being chosen by the gods themselves to have some greater purpose in life. As stated by the individual interviewed “It doesn’t matter if Brahim or Shudra. If you get chosen by Kali, everything changes. There was a man in a street near where I lived. He came back from Bahru. He was a farmer, but after that, everyone treated him with the most respect. Many Vaishya came to him with offers of food or gold, even if before that they would have simply ignored him.” From this account and what I have read, those that return seem to be treated as if they have elevated up many levels of the caste system. As to how this happens to an individual, I have found no trend or writing that indicates such beyond simply being chosen by the gods as their superstitions state.

Closing Thoughts
I think after reading through all this you see a frightening trend. It is very clear that this system is designed to oppress and only grind down those below the cult of Kali. Much like the Akiri Ma’at this is a system that is designed around ideals that on their own may be seen as positive and light but in practice they are twisted to much darker ends. The fact that Shurda are forbidden to even learn letters is just reprehensible. The strict order and theological oppression reminds me of the grip of the Iron faith in Nova Vaasa and Hazlan. The Shurda are essentially slaves in everything but name from how they are treated by society as a whole. With that said a system without the obvious corruption and oppression of those that are viewed as “expendable” are not exploited could in theory work. I do not think the mysticism of reincarnation is true, but showing an acceptable level of respect to your betters as the caste system asks is not a bad thing. Striving to self improve is also not intrinsically a bad thing. What does need to be shown is that those above need to act with the best interest of those beneath them in mind. It is THEIR duty to see that those less fortunate than them are able to survive in more ways than “work until you die and then in your next life you will be rewarded.” Beyond the scholarly benefits to understanding nations that might be interacted with, there is little to nothing that the Republique could bring benefits from the Rajian Caste System.

Title: The Book of Malice
Icon:

Content:

Introduction

Every powerful force has an opposite and equally powerful force, evil and darkness pervades the world. Each time a great malevolence is vanquished, another springs up to take its place, like a Hydra with an unlimited number of heads, such is the inevitability of the world, it is by exquisite design that an ever replenishing river of evil flows through the hearts of man and beast, the river is glorious and relentless, praise be the life giving waters of the river.

Definitions of Evil

Evil can define a vast array of acts, but it is without question that evil in some of its most simplified and condensed forms, are hurting, oppressing, or killing others. Do not be mistaken in thinking that a magic missile spell is evil, because it is by no means a painless death to a frail and weak opponent, but to cast magic missile in the hope to cause pain and suffering, as apposed to simply dispatching a threat to the wizards life, that choice will tarnish the wizard who casts the spell.

Evil Acts

Murder one of the the most exquisite acts that a creature or person can commit, apposed to killing, murder can be defined as the killing of an intelligent creature for a nefarious purpose, such as theft, personal gain, or pleasure. Simply killing a deer, or a Red Dragon is not in itself murder, wasting ones own time and resources on killing such creatures without personal gain, be it physical or emotional is a heinous and shameful deed.

Vengeance

While vengeance does not exclusively belong to the perpetrators of the insidious and reprehensible, an angered Druid grove may pursue a foe across many borders to enact retribution for a heinous crime against nature. Revenge is a powerful and exquisite force, the concept of vengeance at any cost can lead to greater and greater acts of retribution that can quickly escalate into diabolical acts of wanton wrath and destruction. Often those with good intentions and of virtuous conscience can quickly find themselves going beyond what is considered righteous indignation, and the subsequent fall from grace is ever more enjoyable to behold.

Damning or Harming Souls

While causing physical harm, or death, to another creature is not in itself evil, damning or harming another's soul is a reprehensible act, only the most evil and insidious plot to capture, harm, or outright destroy another creatures eternal aspect. Many consider killing an evil creature, sending it to it's afterlife to be judged is punishment enough, indeed they would consider it divine retribution, but destroying a creatures soul forever erases that creature from the very notion of existence, and preventing it from completing its destiny in the realm of the dead to be embraced in the bosom of it's deity, or punished for it's ill gotten deeds. Only a truly deranged and masochistic creature would knowingly cause harm, or destruction to their own soul.

Title: The Book of Hatred
Icon: (Staff discretion)
Location: (Staff discretion)

Content:

Introduction

Those who bathe in the river of evil may find themselves the target of local law enforcement, holy orders apposed to the maleficent, or from organised groups of meddling mobs interlopers. Your actions and words must be forever cloaked in lies and deceit, so that the wretched paragons of righteousness cannot see your true intent, misdirection, tricks, and manipulation are a valuable tool in the spreading of the holy river of evil, and like a river winding down the path of an seemingly immoveable mountain, over time even the smallest source of water can erode the bedrock of civilised society, and become a torrent that no individual can hope to stand against.

Betrayal

When deceit and lies lead to betrayal, the outcome can be favourable beyond measure, if the pawn has unwittingly served to facilitate the spread of evil by the sublime actions of the instigator, then the moment of realisation is an exquisite triumphant end to a worthy scheme. Acts of betrayal should therefor be admired much like the intricate web of the spider, who's deadly strands of silk that hang delicately in the morning light, glistening with drops of morning dew like an exquisite necklace of jewels.

Theft

The instigators of evil know that the acquisition of items, gold, and power is of the upmost importance, and a high priority should be placed on obtaining the tools required to set plans in motion. Stealing should not be undertaken for its own sake however, if unwanted attention would be brought upon you that might harm or otherwise completely unravel plans, or the wrath of the wronged could be levied against you in deadly consequence, then legitimate means are just as worthy to reach a desired milestone.

Torture

Torture can be a invaluable tool, and a great harbinger of evil. The act in itself can derive so much pleasure that it can be hard to show restraint, but restraint is often essential, for unrelenting torture may result in an untimely death before anything useful is extracted, it may also lead to the victim going into a state of shock, if the method is to bring physical pain and anguish to the victim, which can dull the pain completely and render the expedition of time and energy wasted in a fruitless endeavour. Physical torture can bring secondary benefits, such as useful components in the forms of vials of blood, the tears of the anguished, and freshly extracted bile. A combination of physical and emotional torture of varying degrees may also provide a satisfactory outcome, and could lessen the risk of expiration.

I wear the mask and keep it hidden, I sow the seeds of deception, I bring about equality through death, I work and serve the Great Old God Not for his praise, but to avoid his gaze. To him I bow, forever more

--
Prayer for blessings: Old God Nerull you hear my prayer and know it true I seek no boon from you beyond the blessings of the day When light and life meet their end your fun shall then begin Grant me what's needed to fufill your desire. To you I bow forever yours

--
A Note On Death:

There are two types of death; first being the common or false death that people are resurrected from. The second being a true death, where the soul does not return to the body and is thus free of suffering and the deception created by the Old God. This is seen as a continuation of the deception by allowing people to be brought back from death or breaking free of it by not returning to the body. If the soul does not return then there should be celebration for they have deciphered the Old Gods grand deception and found their way home to the Night Mother, the only other way to achieve true death is by willingly sacrificing yourself during rituals which should be held every few months or when there are matters that need extra guidance.

Title: The Tasques and tribes of the Vistani Vol I

Content:

The vistani are sometimes mistakenly believed to be one homogeneous group, with little variation between them and no distinct characteristics, but the truth is far mor complex and nuanced than many would believe at first glance. The vistani are largely insulated from outsiders, and still have many secrets that they closely guard to their hearts, for there is power in secrecy and they often have little interest in the world outside of their caravans and family groups, but they are not completely unknowable or impenetrable, and the studious of observers who takes the time to appreciate their colourful and varied traits will be rewarded with the knowledge of a rich and varied tapestry woven across many generations.

Tasques

The vistani are categorised into three distinct groups known as tasques, within which are branches of tribes that make up the many caravans that travel the lands of barovia. The three tasques are the kaldresh, the bohemians, and the manusa. The kaldresh, are skilled artificers and service providers who's goods and skills are highly sought after and well known across all of barovia. The bohemians, are artists and performers unrivalled in their creativity and ability to create the sublime, be that material in nature, or abstract ideas. The last group, are the manusa, who are masters of the occult and the arcane.

The kaldresh are master craftsmen and women, who usually travel in large caravans, it is not unknown for their caravans to be composed of up to fifty members, the men and women prefer to dress in practical clothing, choosing garments that are comfortable, and durable. The men grow, and maintain large moustaches and often wear hats, while the women usually prefer pants over dresses and skirts, both men and woman favour natural tones and dislike extravagant colours. The kaldresh are polite and reserved folk, and they avoid intrigue and politics, and they rarely exhibit passionate behaviour in public. They have a knack for finding conflicts, and take advantage by selling their wares while taking great care to skilfully avoid becoming embroiled in any side of whatever conflict that they find themselves profiting from.

Tribes

The kami, a kaldreshi tribe, are known for their excellent forging skills. They most commonly work to create weapons, armour, locks, horse shoes, nails, and adornments. So skilled at their forging, that even the dwarves hold their skills in high regard, and they are known for a quickness and agility in forging their wares. The Equaar, another kaldreshi tribe, are renowned animal handlers and expert horse riders. They breed domesticated animals of all manner of usefulness, in particular horses, and dogs, but also smaller animals such as hunting birds, and even companion animals, which practitioners of the arcane and divine are particularly fond of acquiring to make use of in their rituals to obtain an animal companion, or familiar. However, it is important to note that acquiring an animal from the equaar is not simply a matter of exchanging gold, before the bartering process is complete, the animal must be willing to accept the prospective owner. The equaar are also excellent trackers, and employ dogs to aid them in their hunts. The final tribe of the kaldresh, are the vatrastka, who's skills in none magical healing techniques are incomparable, the rarest viastani tribe, the vratraska use herbs, bandages, and potions to heal the sick and wounded, even their food is said to help speed up the process of healing, however they do have a darker side, as they not only deal with the curative in nature, but also poisons, and toxins. The price of their poisons, and noxious vails of liquid, are dwarfed only by the prospective antidotes.

The Bohemian's tale

The legend of the bohemian tribes goes back many generations, and tells a melancholic and bitter tale of a wanderer, doomed to a lifetime of misery and loss, for his part in a tale of passion, heartbreak, and betrayal. Long long ago in an unknown village, a simple and unremarkable man had his true love stolen by a once dear friend, in his sorrow and rage he murdered his life long friend, and for his part in this tragic tale he was doomed to forever wander the lands, never being accepted by the people he encountered, so powerful and tragic was the curse that it passed down from generation to generation to both man and woman, and forever doomed the bohemians to a life of wandering and never experiencing true acceptance by all the people they encounter.

The tribes of the bohemian tasque rarely go unnoticed as they enter a new village, town, or city limit, their arrival is always accompanied by music, dancing, and frivolity, young men are known to dance and play musical instruments on top of vardo roofs, young girls dance happily in floral trimmed dresses and skirts throwing flowers and petals, and trained animals accompany them in their boisterous caravans performing tricks for the locals, the bohemians often travel in much smaller caravans, usually comprising of no more than two dozen members.

The men wear black pants and loose colourful silk shirts, they typically have long hair, and large moustaches or goatees, and adorn their ears with many rings. The woman who are mysterious and seductive, wear long loose fitting garments that accentuate their beauty and sometimes provocative nature, preferring bright colours, and often walking barefoot. In public both men and woman are charming, festive, and charismatic, and they take great care in welcoming strangers who accumulate around their camp, but when away from the prying eyes and ears of the giorgio, they are resentful and angry of the life that they must endure, they spend the late evenings telling tragic tales, and perform melancholic songs of loss and anguish.

Enchanting

The bohemians have a natural ability to enchant the giorgio that they encounter, and although not believed to be supernatural in nature, this skill is universal among the behomians, and can sway even the most resistant and distrusting of giorgio to bend to their charms and pleasantries, even if only temporarily while the giorgio and bohemians are together, and for a short time once they part ways. The bohemians offer artistic services to those they encounter, but also offer criminal services, and they often employ rouge scams upon the unwary. The bohemians have little to no respect for the laws of the giorgio, and they feel no remorse or guilt, believing that their victims are doomed to their fate, and that they are simply taking advantage of the situation.

The naiat, a bohemian tribe, are a merry band of travellers. With their colourful vardos and circus tents, they perform acrobatic tricks, and train exotic animals to dance or perform for coin, and display wonderful and unusual objects for the curious giorgio to marvel at on display. They go beyond simply performing tricks and circus acts however, for they craft wonderful and exquisite instruments of all shapes and sizes, these instruments are highly sought after by bards and performers from across the lands. Patrons of the naiat can engage in bare fist fights with their trained animals, and they offer a chance for the courageous to experience something that they call the 'House of Mist', a wooden, moveable cabin that exposes those inside to an illusionary mist, that conjures horrors and beasts in a drug induced trance.

Ruputations

The carvara, another bohemian tribe, are primarily responsible for the poor reputation of the Vistani, earned or otherwise. Much more dangerous and prone to violence than the other tribes, but they are often indistinguishable from the naiat, the carvara use this to their advantage and often pose as the naiat as they see fit to gain an advantage over a giorgio victim, or entire communities. The carvara offer more risky activities and services, such as gambling, drinking contests, and armed combat. Known for their great skill in stealth, thievery, lock picking, crafting skeleton keys, and other illicit goods, they are masters of extortion, and spreading lies, and often offer contracts heavily weighted in their favour. They revel in the scams, theft, and subterfuges that they have enacted, and take great pride in telling other vistani how they gained advantage over their victims. They rarely stay in once location long enough for the local authorities to take action against them and are masters of evading the consequences of their actions.

Mysticism

The tribes of the Manusa tasque travel in small caravans with no more than six occupants, no children accompany them in their caravans, this has lead to speculation and rumours that the manusa are somehow unageing, or live for many centuries although this seems unlikely and a more reasonable assumption is that they engage in a secretive right of passage when the young Vistani reach a certain age, old enough to be useful to the reclusive tribes. Mysterious in nature, the men of the tribe wear long robes and heavy cloaks, they do not cut their long tangled hair or beards, and they often wear turbans. The women typically dress in blues and purples, wearing silk blouses, heavy skirts, and head scarves or shawls, their clothing adorned with mistic symbols. Less likely to associate with giorgios, or settle near cities, they seem to be disinterested in worldly affairs, although they are not totally isolated to prevent contact with outsiders. It is said that they can travel through not only the dangerous mists of Barovia and beyond, but also time itself, choosing a destination that suits them best, it also is spoken that any who would try to persuade them to change any past or future event will be refused, and  any who persist in this fruitless endevour will find themselves feeling the wrath of the manusa for his or her insolence.

The Canjar, a manusa tribe, are known for their skill and unrivalled knowledge of arcane magic, many as a result fear them for what they might inflict upon those who cross paths with them and attract their attentions and scorn, they seems to have an unrivalled ability to always know precisely what spells to prepare and memorise for any given situation, and so to magically combat a canjar, is to with all certainty know defeat. They also have the ability to conjure a frightening creature known as a Zsalev, a hideous shadowy creature that can take on many forms, and acts as a loyal servant to the conjar, its abilities are unknown, but it is said that a canjar would have no hesitation in using the Zsalev to manipulate its target and ensure that it's masters wishes are fulfilled.

The canjar are know for crafting magical amulets that can increase the wearers arcane ability and protection, and in particular they are sought after by those who wish to protect themselves from the evil eye, and other malicious curses.

Rumoured connections

The final tribe of the manusa, are the Zarovans, lead by a single individual known as Madame Eva, she herself is said to be many centuries old, and wise beyond belief. The Zarovan are the most feared tribe of the vistani, even feared by the other tribes, and it is said that they of all the tribes have complete vision and knowledge of fate and have an intimate control over time. Little is known of the Zarovans, and of Madam Eva, but she is referred to as the Rauni of Rauni's and is the ultimate leader of the vistani. Some say that the Zarovan tribe is somehow linked with the Zarovich family, but any connections between them could never be confirmed, and who would dare draw the ire of the fabled Count Von Zaravich, or of Madame Eva herself?

Content:

Also known as HellRiders and Hell Riders, and also known as the Riders of Elturel or simply the Riders, were an elite cavalry unit who acted as the primary armed force of the city of Elturel in the Western Heartlands. The Hellriders helped Elturel establish and maintain civilization in these harsh lands. They were one of the most renowned and well-regarded military forces in the Realms. For a city guard, they outmatched the armies of whole realms.

Skilled soldiers who fought from horseback, they were typically proficient with spears or lances, composite bows or horse bows, and long curved sabers. They could fire their bows from their backs of their horses while on the move without hindrance.Their light warhorses were mighty destriers. They were strong and well-equipped.

It was said that a company of Riders had once ridden into the Hells themselves—namely Avernus, the first layer—and from this story, the Hellriders were named. The earliest known version told that it was to rescue one of their own, such was their great loyalty to each other. A later version said that they rode through a gate to hunt down and slay devils that had been harassing the good people of Elturel

To be a Hellrider was a job for life, no matter how short it turned out to be. Those determined to resign were given a final mission involving very difficult tasks, and even if they succeeded, and survived, they were stripped of their gear, exiled from the city, and named a heretic in the eyes of Helm, God of Guardians.

Their members were easily recognized by their striking colours of red, white and gold which are the colours of Elturel.

Quote

Opinions,  Baroness Lily Anciaux

My wife says I should write more. Actually she says a lot of things, most of which I won't put down here in case it upsets her. My name is Lily Anciaux, and this small self published volume that you hold in your hands, is my gift for success for your life in Port-a-Lucine.

Who am I? An Actress. An Artiste. A Baroness. A Dementliuse Citizen. A self made woman. I have committed no crimes, never associated with societies disreputable elements. Just another stranger to the core, whom embraced Ezra and then embraced this city and its people, whom in time, accepted me as their own.

I got where I am today, by embracing the system. By respecting the law of this city, and that which it demands above all else - Art. I never dabbled in politics, and though I bore witness to Sieur Reginer Chaboteaux rise to Cluture Advisor, a man I admire and respect, I never once exerted my influence to sway the minds of our brilliant nobility.

Instead of taking from our society, I fixated on embracing it, of giving to it. I created countless works of art, in the Dementliuse Style, I sang, I played Piano, and thanks to the patrionage of House Jalabert oversaw the production of the finest plays upon Dementlieu's finest stage.

For there is a place for everyone, in the most Serene Republic. A country, where underneath the bright gleaming lights, lies nothing but the hard work and the untold accomplishments of her people. A place beset by slander, but where the shining light of truth defies all.

Though I have never met our Brilliant Lady Governor, if I could, I would have thanked her for the peace and prosperity she has brought us, and if I could ask you one thing, dear reader, it would be that you serve our people as faithfully and as free willed as she has.

For that you see, is my opinion. That within us all, we all have the capacity to be Dementlieuse, that we can all be the bright shining light of the core.

It is my hope that you all see this truth, for exactly what it is.

Viva la Republique.
