Our dearest House Ambroiseux presents, in collaboration with The Orchid and Willow,
A Showing Upon The Bay!

All of genteel demeanour are welcomed to join us upon the ninth day of October, at La Theatre de la Baie, where a most wonderful showing of Port-à-Lucine's art shall take place.

In partnership with the Orchid and Willow, we shall display not only our own collections of works, but those of smaller local artists, giving them apt opportunity to garner recognition!
Therefore, those who wish to submit their works are dearly welcome – and even encouraged – to do so. We only ask that they are presented at least three days before the showing.

Please forward any submissions to Mlle. Geneviève Ambroiseux or Mlle. Éléonore Ambroiseux at the Governor's Hotel.

Affair sponsored by the Red Vardo Traders of Port-à-Lucine.

A week before the showing, a new flourish of posters are distributed. A clear emphasis is placed on the submission of artworks before the day.

As the affair concludes, gossip flows from district to district about the nine works on show. Distinctly, an effort has been made to render two absent from the public hearsay..

Centered upon a table amidst other red and white flora is a pink Caldura Rose severed in twain.

The longer the painting is studied, obfuscating colors of withering rot can be seen in the various petals and flowers sat around the table. Nearly every flower is marred with signs of perishing, pestilence eating away at petals and leaves. Woeful shades of brown and black creep up the stem towards the Caldura Rose, stopping where the cut ends and travelling no further towards the flower.

Even amongst the wilt and decay, the vitality and complexion of the Caldura Rose remains alone unscorned. Its blushing, unsullied vermilion hues keep outstretched in a promising, albeit dark light.

The piece is painted with rich and vibrant hues, depicting what appears to be a courtyard garden absolutely overflowing with life, the plants surrounding a slightly overgrown clearing for a metal table and chairs. A young woman is shown sitting at the table in a formal blue dress with a wide brimmed hat, her red hair neatly tied back. On closer inspection, much of the plant life represents a variety of species from across the Core, mostly in the form of the flowers that line the path to the clearing.

The flowers in the piece are carefully rendered with a singular stroke of the brush with the bristles used to show the natural shape of the petals. A meticulous amount of detail was payed to the textures and colours of the work, with various similar colours used to give depth. The flowers are rendered quite accurately, including depictions of Vistan's tears,  sunflowers, nightblight, and caldura roses. The shadows cast opposite to the viewer, with the light source behind.

The woman's face is calm with a faint smile, a cup of tea resting on the table in front of her on a saucer. The surface of the drink containing a blurry reflection of the tree above her and the shadows cast by the walls of the courtyard.

This beautiful figure of alabaster wears a stola, and a long cloak with a hood, her arms draped with bangles and various other pieces of antiquity. Her fair features have been morphed into something ugly through white-hot fury; there is no softness in her face, only sharp angles, an intense scowl, and a terrible glower. Grasped tight in one of her hands is held a long branch of atropa belladonna, symbolic to the Ezrite faith, though here it seems to take on a different sort of meaning altogether.

Clutching the bottom of her stola is a man, varicose veins running up his neck and creeping to his face, his own expression warped by anguish. No attention is paid to him by the woman who is the center of the piece; she does not even deign to look at him.

Spoiler: show
A night of all nights, moon high in the sky. A balcony carved of delicate stone. Sweethearts find one another in the moment, caught in a conversation most pleasant. A moment away from a gala. The dame’s light hair rises high as her sumptuous gown blossoms out; décolletage drifting ever toward sensuality, and yet not overt. A bouquet of asters rests in her careful hands.

What is a moment of unassuming company draws toward passion as one views closer. The touch of her hand to his arm, the smudge of her lip rouge. His smile is giddy and eyes bright, taken with a pure appreciation for his lady.

The roaring ongoings of a soirée carry on, partygoers passing by the window; oblivious. All that protects the pair from discovery is the inattention of their peers, purposeful or not. A signatory symbol of a small white lily lies in the lower corner of the work, discarded by the fallen petals of a bouquet.

Crouched beside a basket of pretty buds and blossoms perches a woman of most simple means; her figure bundled within a quaint shawl of woven fabric, her dress befitting the common folk. Within her delicate hands rest a bundle of rests, the apparent focus of her idle work upon the cobbled street's corner. She is an ever so modest workswoman, and yet..

Her smile. A glorification of her presence. The woman is painted with a devoted kind of attention, a fondness of the simplicity that would be unprovided in typical portraiture. Her position is portrayed with tenderness, rather than ignorance. Dimples form on her cheeks, and her tired eyes crinkle with sweetness.

The piece is etched using only a singular kind of ink, the tone of the parchment breaking through in areas of highlights. A signatory symbol of a small white lily may be spotted in the lower corner of the work.

Spoiler: show
A gondola gently afloat upon the waters of the bay, its passenger a darling young lady of dark hair and genteel dress. She lifts a bouquet of asters and lilies to her face with a smile; a titter of gratitude. Loose petals drift down into the waters beneath.

Her companion, a man whose thinly pencilled moustache grants him a severe sense of maturity, looks on with idle fondness. A nostalgic, refined adoration most proper. His smile is not found in his expression, but in his eyes, which glisten with appreciation for the dame. The air of a blossoming betrothal is palpable.

A neatly dressed retainer guides the gondola along, wooden oars gripped tightly as he rows. A signatory symbol of a small white lily drifts across the petit waves formed by this rowing, settling in the lower corner of the illustration.

Spoiler: show
This piece is made with dark, harsh tones of colour. In the centre of a large room made from stone brick and timber resides a run down fountain, covered in moss and dust. Surrounding the fountain is a towering array of bookcases, sharing the aged demeanour of their locale.

A grand archive this was once; No, a grand archive this still remains.

Yet, something isn't quite right. Though the books upon the shelves may look old and worn, their pages are pristine. This discrepancy even more apparent once you notice the open books upon the tables nearby.

If one were to look closer, they would see shadowed, foggy figures atop the bookcases. They are looking down towards the ruined and ancient floor. You've finally noticed the fountain has begun to ooze what look like.. Words?

A feeling of being watched.
