Lentell - the gentle mistake
« on: July 28, 2008, 01:12:56 PM »
"PUSH!" The mid wife said as the Barovian woman bore down one last time then slumped back exhausted from the efforts. The mother to be had been kidnapped by bandits many months ago. Unspeakable things had happened to her that were better left unsaid. Dark witch magics had been spun around the woman when she was raped for no one knew what. But those bandits now rotted or were burned like any true foul thing should have been.

With the final push the child bore inside her was born. It was slightly larger then usual, its hair though and the eyes made the mid-wife gasp in surprise. The eyes shown with a deep icy blue. The hair shown similarly with a dark icy blue. The stranger part of it though was the wispy movements it had, as if it was moving in the breeze yet there was none. Finally the girls skin was a rasped green. "...Caliban..." She said softly recalling the term Barovians used for 'freaks' as they called them, muttering a prayer to the Earth Mother against evil.

The mid-wife stood wrapping the child in a bundle of cloth hiding its nature from others, the mother was currently at rest from the exhaustion of the birth and would be for some time.

The mid wife stood then near the forests of Barovia village at the first rays of the sun still holding the baby girl in her arms. She had been ready to feed it to the wolves but something inside her stayed her hands and actions. Instead she made hasty plans to secure passage out of the village to the city of Valiki to the west. She kept the girl hidden during this time, telling the mother that the child had been still born and deformed as a caliban, and that she had disposed of it. The mother had been relived and accepted the partial lie.

And so the midwife took the bundle of the baby in her arms and left on the traveling caravan keeping to herself for the three day trip to Valiki. "..Now what to call you?" The woman, said. She seemed at a lose for words currently so she glanced about in thought then smiled idly. "Lentell" She said. "Lentell Ylevis" The woman said, she in truth was an out lander herself, a warrior priest of the Earth Mother specificly the Sun sect. There virtues were in many ways like that of the morning lord here yet different in others.

Over the coming years Lentell grew fast and strong, except for her skin, eyes and hair she was mostly 'normal' as most would say. The years taught the girl much about discipline and fighting, about the virtues of doing right and aiding others, as well as respecting the laws that were made in Barovia here.

Eventually though the time passed on and Lentell was about twenty years in human, though her innocents and in many ways thoughts were that of a girl much younger. The woman she considered and belived to be her mother, or Mother Sunya as she called herself to the girl had vanished one night, only leaving a simple note for the girl to find the following morning.

Be safe my child, hold the teachings I've taught you close, the rest you shall learn on your own.

And with that Lentell was alone in the harsh unforgiving land that was Barovia, she had been born into darkness and hatred and misery, but out of that she held an innocent purity to her, a holy warrior like her mother yet also beneath a fiery anger which her mother had taught her to channel during times of need. Lentell wasnt sure what life had in store for her, but she wanted to find out and try to help others along the way.

Lentell stood around the forests a day or so later south of Valiki. She had aided some others in the crypts of the morninglord evening inadvertently saving a pair of locals of all things. "...Why barovians would dwell in such a place is beyond me...and folks call me a freak" She said softly her hair stirring freely from her neck.

Lentell had mastered the ability to channel her inner energies to tap into the Sun Gaia's essence for a time to shield herself from harm and to focus her blade to deal more damage to aide those she protected. She found the challenges she faced worthy of her, and as a result the Sun Gaia rewarded her with more abilities and focus.

It all came from inside and out, to some thes were prayers, but to Lentell from the teachings her mother had taught her they were more, they were tapping into ones own living power and focusing ones belifs from the Sun's own power to be shown outwardly through actions and emotions.

Lentell heard of the more stern laws put into place around the city of Valiki. She couldnt register obviously she would be burned and killed, "...Even though I had done nothing to ever harm anyone..." She thought with a soft sigh.

Lentell closed her eyes letting herself regain her focus, her hair stirring freely off her neck in the exposed sunlight. "Mother....where are you?" She thought softly letting her mind fall into its focused trance.

Weeks passed again for Lentell again she aided others where possible sometimes just getting attacked in return. She didnt retaliate though just ran off fast into a safe haven. For her tolerance of those that would not tolerate her Lentell received the focus necessary to channel a part of her self for a short time into harming a foe. "..To protect others and myself so I can protect others." she said to herself.

Lentell had made a few friends, not many but enough to show others she wasnt as evil as the other calibans that roamed the lands, not that it mattered to any barovians of course. Lentell had even visited there den of living, seen how they lived even talked to a few of the brutes there. Part of her could reason how they responded to the actoins given to them by those that shunned them. But she couldnt bring herself to supporting there retaliations of torture and maiming that she had heard about. She saw bodies but the Caliban brute she spoke to said they had fell onto the spikes when they had come to fight them.

Lentell tried to sense if he was lying but she was left with the fact that she had no evidence to deny his words nor could see anything that said otherwise so she believed him. She did not stay to long around the Den they laired in. She had more important things to worry about at the moment that of destroying wererats that laired near by.

"...Least I can help even these folks here..." she said as she left the Den.

Lentell sat on a small out cropping of rock a day later letting her feet hang over the edge. She felt at ease for the most part her hair stirring freely from her neck moving as if there was a soft breeze yet there was none at this point. Lentell knew welll how her hair reacted to her feelings. Moving as if it had a life of its own. Coupled with her sensing of possible danger it was a handy way for her and others to know how she was feeling.

Presently Lentell had gathered supplies for a journey to explore other reaches of the Core for a few months . She knew she couldnt see all she wanted to due to her nature but she didnt mind. She smiled some. "...Maybe I will find Mother Sunya!" She thought with an excited and happy smile.

She stood then her self ready as she would be then begaun her journey to the West. The area she felt most drawn. She would find her way and see what there was to see.
