Ruling on Faction Archives & Player Faction Forums/Discords

Greetings fellow Prisoners,

As our server continues to grow and improve it is important to the Development and Dungeon Master teams that we continue to bring you a consistent experience when it comes to faction conflict, the risks associated with such, and NPC presence/reactions. With the long-term presence of player-driven factions assured, and the inability to support all of their sub-forums here on the primary index, it is inevitable that players will take the creation and moderation of their own sub-forum into their hands. This is by no means against the rules and is allowed with DM oversight if one is available and will volunteer to oversee it in an IC capacity. Alternative forums used for purely OOC communications are allowed without DM oversight and should not be used to validate IC record-keeping and communications without a DM present.

Information leaks, NPC reactions, etc. will not be supported retroactively from this announcement forward on external forums unless a DM is present and informed.

Regarding official faction archives, logs, and records, the team has decided that to keep stealing information consistent, grounded, and risky, that the "records rooms" of each faction base are now to be considered frequently in use/under direct guard as is appropriate for the faction in question. Whether on screen or off screen, the presence of NPCs is to be considered frequent enough to make copying, replacing, or outright stealing records to require a reasonable amount of risk associated with the action.

What does this mean for espionage roleplay and how does it affect me?

In practice, very little changes. We ask the community to lean more heavily on espionage done by word of mouth and more deliberate planning rather than unrealistically copying or stealing masses of text without someone noticing. However, if something is required to be copied, replaced, or stolen, players will have to speak to the primary DM(s) associated with the faction in question, or just reaching out to a DM in general so that they are aware of the players' intentions and can prepare accordingly for any player-driven or NPC-driven response. This is a change being made to make the experience smoother for both parties, and so that the DM team is not occupied interviewing multiple individuals after the damage has been done without their awareness or consent to the flow of physical information. This is especially more relevant on alternate sub-forms which becomes increasingly difficult to manage.

It should be expected that incorrect communication/action in copying logs verbatim will result in a rollback or punishment by the DM team on a case by case basis. This update in ruling is a branch of the "ignoring NPCs" entry which can be found here under "NPCs."

We hope that our community is understanding of these changes and as always, if you have any questions, members of the Community Council, Development and Dungeon Master teams are ready and willing to answer your questions or hear your concerns. Thank you.

We also encourage people with player-run factions to post a link to their faction forums in their faction's writeup in the Player-Created Faction Guide. If you prefer not posting it publically, you can share it directly with the DM team.
