Shield parry with tower shield caps at +2 Parry AC
« on: December 05, 2021, 03:35:44 PM »
What:
When using a character with shield parry and a tower shield the AC bonus you get from parry can't exceed +2, despite having 15+ parry ranks after the deductions from ACP.

Here I have recorded a short GIF, showing the change from 30 parry with +6 AC bonus to 17 parry with only +2 AC bonus:

And here is a still image of it:

To confirm the character does have shield parry:

This character has 17 base parry rank, with +5 from dexterity, +3 parry from gloves and +5 parry from cloak for a total of 30 parry before ACP.

Recreate:
1) Be a Voodan (or maybe any class) with the shield parry feat.
2) Achieve 30 ranks of parry.
3) Equip a tower shield.

Are you wearing any armor? A tower shield alone reduces your maximum benefit from Parry to 22 ranks (30-ACP), regardless of what you push your ranks to, and anything further is just going to get worse.

In the images here I am not using any armor. The ACP from tower shield is -13 (I'm not aware of any tower shield with a lower acp, but this one is a steel spiny alder tower shield).

Since parry caps at 30 in terms of the AC bonus with +6, a character with a tower shield and shield parry should be able to get +3 Parry AC from 15 to 17 parry after the -13 is deducted from the total cap.

But to humor the idea, the character would wear a medium armor with a -2 ACP, bringing his parry down to 15, which should still yield a +3 to Parry AC.

Yeah it was a typo, I wrote the Full Plate ACP :P

Without armor you should be able to get 3 AC from a Tower Shield with Shield Parry, yeah.
