Jezra Wagner (F)

Jezra Wagner, also known as the “Ice queen” was the daughter of a barovian boyer who owned land near the baratok mountains. She met her untimely demise when she died during the effects of an avalanche while on a hiking trip to see the winter solstice. The play shifts in time, the actress will play younger versions of herself at times. During her life she was known as being bubbly and charismatic, she was also a very talented singer and artist.

The lead of the show has to be able to transition between the vocal registers with ease. One of her solos requires rigorous belting, and exceptional control of breath. Has to be a very powerful singer. Jezra performs in every song but the opening, including two solo’s of her own. Her role is very demanding, and requires an actor that can attend all rehearsals.


 Jezra’s Audition Score:

“Goodbye” Jezra’s Solo in front of her mirror before she leaves on her expedition up the mountain. It is a bittersweet solo, as she is reminiscing on her childhood, and welcoming her future. It is one of her softer moments.

Today is the last adventure of my life
Not being somebody’s  else wife
I know it is my part I have to play
I have accepted my fate

So I will  take this final expedition,
To my heart to keep my  sunny disposition
To see the winter solstice in the sky
One last time, As I ….

Giorggio Wagner (M)

The beloved older brother of Jezra Wagner.

Small role has one solo, and then it is not seen purposefully throughout the show. Has to be a male with a strong voice that carries and can shift between the higher and lower registers with ease.

Giorggio’s Audition Score:

 “Seasons.” Is His song and it is one of childlike wonders. It is a duet between a soaring violin and rambunctious guitar. Giorggio is confident, playful, they are young adults during this scene They are seen  running and playing within the land that their father owns. The whole song is juvenile, and that is exhibited through the lyrics, it is one of the few light moments within the play. He sings, Jovially.


Now  I’ll love you through the spring,
When everything is thawed,
Because I know someday
You’re gonna show them all

How you bloom,
What a radiant hue,
I cannot wait
To Grow up,
Grow up,  next to you. 

Miner/Hunter/Friend (M/F)

This is a recurring ensemble role. The Miner has one solo, the hunter has several lines of spoken dialogue, and the friend has solo lines within a duet with Jezra. Preferably someone who is comfortable singing within the lower registers, and has a dark quality to their voice. It can easily be transposed in key to align with the vocalist’s range for the actor that is chosen.
The Miner opens up the entire production with their solo “Heart Of The Winter.” It is dark, eerily, they are speaking of the legend of Jezra. The Miner is terrified, paranoid, never at rest knowing that she could be lurking… It is dark, soulful, and carries traditional barovian folk elements.

Frigid is the day, and it’s only getting thicker
Cause we’re way down, in the heart of the winter

Hushed words, never fully delivered
 For Old souls, know the fable of the withered

Mrs. Wagner (F)

The mother of Jezra and Giroggio wagner.

Has solo lines within a song with her husband, and Jezra. Looking for someone who is more comfortable in the higher registers, a role written for a soprano, that has a graceful, clear quality to her voice.

This is part of her solo lines, when she discovers that she has had to bury both of her
children in her life within the song that showcases the trio entitled “Can You Hear me?” She is beyond heartbroken, in unimaginable pain.

I have lived  to see a mothers heartbreak,
This is the worse fate I could endure
A daughter, a son, no longer mine
The one true cruelty of life, is that time is  so impure

Mr.Wagner (M)

A wealthy landowner, and husband and father of the Wagner family.

Has Solo line within a song with his wife, and Jezra. His lines could be dramatically spoken instead of sung, if there are limited casting options available.

This is part of his  solo lines, when he discovers that she has had to bury both of his
children in her life within the song that showcases the trio entitled “Can You Hear me?” He appears to be stunned, when he sings he has a vacant look on his expression as  he reminisces, a look of someone who wishes they could turn back time..

I could live to see a thousand days,
And concur a thousand suns,
But I will never feel as much warmth,
As I did when her life begun.
