Cezar PÔslaru

Matei PÔslaru (737, 40 y/o)
Father
Barovia, Vallaki, Docks
Ex-fisherman, Drunk
Once a contented patriarch, divorce soured him into a senseless anger. In it's wake, he drove many away. Since then, he had his legs broken by one stronger than him in uncertain and petty circumstances. Scarcely visited, the crippled old fisherman's home reeks of rural alcohol and filthy clothes. Some may take pity on him, but an implicit icy pact between onlookers lets him be until he- they hope- quietly croaks his last.

Sandra Tismaneanu (739, 38 y/o)
Mother
Invidia, Karina
Ex-housewife, Swindler
A beguiling woman of foxes' smile who won't let life pass her by. When she saw the opportunity to escape a stagnant domestic life, she left with a burly Invidian wine merchant. Since then, she's enjoyed being the one who's served; ever indulgent, she freely berates the help. She'll leave again, if it suits her. A true individualist.

Cosmin PÔslaru
(755, 22 y/o)
Older Brother
Barovia, Krofburg
Miner
A soot-faced and broad-shouldered youth who decided to follow his friends up the Baratak and try his luck at the Bellegarde mines. Like many, he is ruthlessly exploited. Despite everything, he endures and stays at his post. Bad tongues wag, and they say he cares for a malformed caliban babe: The light of his life, whom he daren't name until they survive a few winters more.
From the crushed wings of rare lepidopterans. 'Painting black, or painting white, this is the stuff that'll see you right.'

Artaxerxes Khorzavi

Matriarch
Quote
Name: Haurvatat Khorzavi
Relation to PC: Grandmother
NPC Location: Sly-var; Hazlan
Describe the NPC: Haurvatat became the head of the Khorzavi house hold after the fall of her father. Picking up the pieces was no easy task for Haurvatat but her efforts were met with grand success. After assuming power she hid a treasure trove of arcane artefacts during the magical ban; but when Hazlik  lifted the ban this collection of contraband became great wealth which help fuel and elevate the Khorzavi family to some of its former glory. Haurvatat now plans a careful operation amongst her lineages; she seeks to elevate House Khorzavi to newer unheard of heights and plans to use her grand children as a means to an end to get this power. Haurvatat is a cruel and cold old crone who does not like to be challenged. Haurvatat wields great social and arcane powers and as a result thinks highly of herself. Haurvatat plays a vast game with many moving parts.  Haurvatat had three children with her late husband Ziamak. Through these three children she has planned three lineages all dedicated to a specific focus.

The Lineage of Iron was planned with the intent that their line would pursue religious wealth and power. Children from this lineage are instilled more heavily than the others with the Church of Iron's laws and faith life. The youth from this branch of the family become zealots at a very early age and are always eager to fight for God. The Lineage of Iron began with Mazyar Khorzavi; son of Haurvatat. Haurvatat's goals involved seeking a strong foothold within in the Hazlani church in order to attain political and social power within the realm. Mazyar became quite the gudkaedes and his arranged marriage was with the woman now known as Zari Khorzavi. Zari is a konduktor of the iron faith meaning she has taken a vow of silence and has devoted her life to the study of death. None of Zari's children have ever heard their mother speak. Their marriage is quite literally War and Death unified. With the guidance of their parents and grandmother children of the iron lineage become religious zealots of the worst variety.

The Lineage of Knowledge was centered around arcane studies and demanded constant practice with the arcane arts. Children from this lineage are pushed into academics quickly with the intent that they will become great scholars and academics of Hazlik's 'Red Academy'. The Lineage of knowledge began with Ozraa Khorzavi; of whom Haurvatat saw much of herself in. For Ozraa every night was reading from dusty old grimoires from witches long past. Ozraa's marriage was arranged with Sadeq Qanbari a fellow student of whom both parents knowingly but secretly kept as bitter rivals for the entirety of their education with knowledge of the arrangement of their marriage only being brought up later in life. In a questionable and curious turn of events Sadeq's family was crushed days before the wedding. All living heirs killed in an incident involving Rashemi rebels; and charges of corruption were used to legally seize the families assets. With no family backing Sadeq had to admit his family's extinction and took on the Khorzavi name. The two are now married and while they remain as competitive as they were in youth, Sadeq lives in Ozraa's shadow and at her whim. For without Ozraa, Sadeq would lost it all. Their competitive nature has been passed down to their children who they urgently educate in hopes of creating future Instructors of the Academy who could appeal to King Hazlik directly.

The Lineage of Industry. While not as prestigious as the other two lineages who were met with fierce encouragement and studying. The lineage of industry was developed to be the family financial backbone. The Lineage of Industry began with Youssef Khorzavi. Haurvatat found Youssef to be a fiercely intelligent boy but lacking the discipline towards religion or the arcane arts. Where Youssef was skilled was his ability to be a highly outspoken and extroverted individual. Youssef never shied away from making friends, and making deals. These were promising traits for the young boy and so Haurvatat began cultivating his mind and treating him with some more lenience than his other two siblings. While they studied holy books and grimoires, Youssef was playing chess with his mother or sitting in on business arrangements. Marriage was arranged between him and an family just emerging from the high merchant class. This marriage ended up cultivated other traits however; as Youssef would find himself involved in the shady business of his wifes family. Deeply frowned upon by his siblings and seen as inferior Youssef and his wife Fariba are actually quite happily married despite the scrutiny around them. Neither are afraid to cut necessary corners but do so with calculation. Youssef owns many businesses including: opium production, viticulture, and security services. The children of this lineage are taught by their father directly and nurtured by their mother. Encouraged to be diplomatic and worldly while remembering the superiority of the Mulan.

These three lineages serve as Haurvatat's key towards propelling House Khorzavi to new heights and allow Haurvatat to honor her ancestors as she has always sought...

The Lineage of Iron
Spoiler: show

Quote
Name: Mazyar Khorzavi
Relation to PC: Father
NPC Location: Sly-var; Hazlan
Describe the NPC: Son of Haurvatat and father of Artxerxes. Mazyar was selected as well to marry his wife Zari at a young age. Haurvatat was successful in arranging a marriage with the Sly'var Kontor's own daughter and while she saw this as a great success she also saw this as an opportunity that she needed to make good on. Upon hearing of Zari's ordeal of only earning wealth upon completeing her training as a Konduktor; Haurvatat did the same with her son except she would have him enroll in the life of the gudkaedes. Mazyar trained among their rank until he earned his title of 'Gudkaede' and even performed some tours of duty in putting down rebellious Rashemi. As a father Mazyar was a cold and distant man but fierce and rage field. Strict with discipline, and a very harsh hand. Mazyar was seen as a terrifying demon of a father whose children could only run from him to the cold wintery arms of their death like mother. Every day was a constant reminder of what awaited sinners in the Hell of Slaves.

Quote
Name: Zari Khorzavi
Relation to PC: Mother
NPC Location: Sly-var; Hazlan
Describe the NPC: The mother of Artaxerxes, selected for marriage to her husband at a young age. Zari's parents were clergy with Sly'var's own fane and the emphasis on their daughters salvation became their greatest priority. They did not want a daughter who would enjoy Hazlans arts or culture or flaunt herself with material things. Instead they wanted her soul to be bound in iron chains. A willing and dutiful servant to the Iron Tyrant. Zari was denied her wealth until she completed her training with the order of the Konduktors. Reluctantly but also with very little choice she followed the monks on their journey towards enlightenment. When her training was complete and she became a full member of the order what stood in her place was a tall black clad specter of a woman. Always dressed in funereal garments and a veil over unweeping eyes, perhaps the only color on her body was the blood red lipstick she worse; as though to say even in death one should look good. As a mother she was a sight of terror for young Artaxerxes. In a way her very image personified God and death. Silent, always watching ever looming. Despite this appearance she was motherly and tending; but her punishments were as cold and icy as her touch. Neither her husband, nor her children have ever heard her speak.

The Lineage of Knowledge
Spoiler: show

Quote
Name: Ozraa Khorzavi
Relation to PC: Aunt (Father's Sister)
NPC Location: Sly-var; Hazlan
Describe the NPC: Aggressive and proud; Ozraa is the arcane wielding daughter of Haurvatat. Ozraa's ego is perhaps the only thing larger than her spell book but she wields both to terrifying ends. From youth she was forced into competition with her now husband Sadeq. Ozraa did genuinely prove to be the stronger arcanist between the two but even that was not enough for Ozraa. After their marriage Sadeq would hear crushing news as his family was slain in a rashemi lead uprising that saw his families estate torched to the ground. Documents were found revealing the corrupt nature of her husbands parents. This collapse of her husbands family and estate was met with crocodile tears by Ozraa as she now hand him under her full control. In the end she won, but despite winning she is still troubled by what had happened and has doubts about if what reportedly occurred actually did occur. Despite defeating her long time rival she grew up with it was still not enough. Ozraa would take to abusing Sadeq and commanding him using his helpless position to her advantage. This cruelty however is not approached without a degree of caution though. Afterall, how long is it until Sadeq decides he's finally had enough and retaliates? Only time will tell.

Quote
Name: Sadeq Khorzavi
Relation to PC: Uncle (Husband of Ozraa Khorzavi)
NPC Location: Deceased (Slain in battle)
Describe the NPC: Sadeq Khorzavi is the name he took on after his marriage to Ozraa Khorzavi. Originally it was her that was going to take his name of Ezkhendari; but when Rashemi rebels supposedly killed his family and his assets were seized he could not help but suspect foul play. As the last of the Ezkhendari family he had no choice but to abandon his name and take on the Khorzavi name. Sadeq was immediately met with abuse as he entered the marriage. Ozraa's abuse extended beyond social subtleties and in private he would be beaten when she was truly upset. Sadeq lives in her shadow and he hates it. Sadeq is convinced his wife had his family killed and assets seized but has neither the evidence or the strength to do so. In his quiet moments as few and rare as they are he investigates the night of the assault seeking answers to who truly destroyed his family. Though he fears time will soon consume all if any remaining evidence. When he's had the opportunity he has tried to train his children with a degree of closeness. Sadeq was interested in maintaining a close relationship with his children a quality their mother lacked strongly in hopes that they will be loyal to him rather than Ozraa. Over all the marriage is uneasy and delicate.

The Lineage of Industry
Spoiler: show

Quote
Name: Youssef Khorzavi
Relation to PC: Uncle (Brother to Mazyar)
NPC Location: Sly-var; Hazlan
Describe the NPC: Met with disdain by his other two siblings for his treatment growing up and the kind of work he does; Youssef however takes his siblings disdain right on the chin and with a big toothy grin on his face. Youssef maintains valued status within his house with his mind set of 'family first'. Maybe he was treated with more lenience and with less stressful skill sets; but Youssef is and always will be doing what he deems as necessary for his family. In many ways he truly is Haurvatat's prodigal child as he shares her vision for an elevated Khorzavi household. Youssef is patient in nature and is more than happy to make dealings with just about anyone regardless of their background or where they come from. This more permissive mind set has allowed him to achieve great wealth on his own and with the assistance of his in-laws. Of all the children Youssef has the best relationship with his spouse as they took time to be together, nurture their youth, and have spent a great deal of time with them. As Haurvatat was with him, he is lenient towards his own children for the most part encouraging them that sometimes the best solutions are the unorthodox ones. Though Youssef despite being friendly and happy has a cold streak that would be surprising; given his out ward nature. Few have seen the sadistic side of him it is only spoke about in rumors amongst higher up Rashemi employees. It is said that those who so displease him are taken away and never return. though no one ever can truly confirm these rumors as he never brings this side of him to his home or territory. Youssef truly does prefer the carrot to the stick when conducting business; but by no means is he against seeing the sticks use to cruel and vicious ends.

Quote
Name: Fariba Khorzavi
Relation to PC: Aunt (Wife of Youssef)
NPC Location: Sly-var; Hazlan
Describe the NPC: Fariba Khorzavi lives in a happy marriage with her husband Youssef. Fariba has a great joy for material and luxurious things. Though she does not forget the sentimental. As a good mother should she spent a lot of time with her children who have naturally come to appreciate her as both a mother and a guide. Additionally Fariba is fond of the arts and culture of Hazlan often ready, and enthusiastic about hosting large gatherings and parties. It can be said that Fariba's parties are some of the best that Hazlan has to offer. Additionally, Fariba is quite the artist and enjoy painting as a hobby when she does get some time to herself. Altough despite this love of arts and finer things; by no means is Fariba content to lounge about and enjoy decadence. Happily she stands at her husbands side, their hands held, and fingers locked. Fariba is quite the business woman just as much he is the business man. Fariba is not afraid to be cold or cruel either if she needs to be. Those who serve Youssef's end of the family even rumor that her wrath is worse than his. That said, she prefers to conduct business exactly as her husband would. The two are very much on the same page and they are happy about it.

Graveyard

NPC Location: Sly-var; Hazlan
Describe the NPC: Ziamak was Haurvatat's husband. In life Ziamak was a merchant of considerable value who kept to himself for most of his time and this is exactly what Haurvatat preferred. Ziamak focused on making money for the family and took his wifes name, while Haurvatat lead the family as its matriarch. Ziamak died of illness years prior leaving behind only three children and only three lineages with Haurvatat to work with.
