Dementlieu - Road to Chateaufaux

Quote
Word spreads quickly between Chateaufaux and Port-a-Lucine of a brazen act of banditry upon the road. The carriage of the Baron d'Eaufroide was found in smoldering wreckage, charred remnants of the horse that drew it still trapped by its harness. The driver was murdered defending his charge, so the tales say, while two other d'Alard retainers were bound together back to back and executed at point blank range, their weapons missing. Of the Baron himself, there is no sign or word... until the man arrives at the doorstep of his estate, clothes singed and torn, but otherwise unharmed. He tells the depraved story in full: It seems the robbers were not merely content to take what was not theirs, but locked the carriage with the Baron inside and set it aflame, though not before murdering his retinue after the Baron commanded them to surrender rather than risk their lives for his coin. The baron, shaken from the ordeal, explains he escaped through the roof of the burning Clerque and Verbois carriage, his strength fueled by desperation and desire to see the perpetrators answer for their crimes.
