Frightened/fleeing persists after fear clearing

Where: Anywhere.

When: When your PC fails its will save and you come under the influence of fear. Frequency = always.

What: Your character continues to run around like a headless chicken after clearing magical fear by methods that remove magical fear or the fear affect expiring, which often overriding your commands. This results in unjustly receiving further attacks of opportunity, running into traps, and generally bad tactical actions.

Recreate: Have hostiles attacking. Be feared by a fear aura or spell. Have Remove Fear applied to you either by potion or spell, or wait for controls to return to your character. The AI applied to your character then continues to (poorly) navigate your character, interrupting your own choices.

Ideas: The fear mechanic is an exercise in frustration, regardless of bug or not. Suggest either fixing the bug or removing AI-based character control entirely and instead apply debuffs to attack bonus, armour class. attributes, skills, for the duration of the fear influence to compromise reworking the frightened/fleeing state.

NWN fear spell (applies frightened)
NWN frightened condition
3.5 fear spell (applies panicked, not frightened)
3.5 frightened condition

My greatest problem with fear is that I have never seem the flee being to a safer place. Aparently a frightened character will run in direction of all enemies instead of fleeing to safety.
Noignar Huillen: Ilmater Cleric.
Hedien Gine: Arrow and Bow Artist.
Dolin Schneim: Dwarven Soldier

Still obnoxiously annoying. Fear expires and control returns, but the AI continues to occasionally move your character as if still under the influence of fear.

Can confirm. Being feared by the fear aura of undead causes random movements for several rounds afterwards too.

I think this is something Beamdog will have to fix, not something our dev team can handle.
Too many regrets. Lost chances – and with each one passing the less human we all became, and the deeper into the nightmare of power we all sank.

This is a convo we've had a few times recently. Nothing concrete but ideas being thrown up as to what can be done are welcome for sure

Personally, I think the idea of running away is too mild a consequence but I agree charging them makes no sense. I would love my character to enter an emote where it curls into a ball on the floor and cries. Would also make it harder for people to just not RP fear.
