The sands are warm today: mini events
« on: July 02, 2021, 08:34:08 AM »
Hello all,

I really like the “mists are thick tonight” mini event mechanic that was introduced a while back. It’s added a really unique feature to barovia and port. I was wondering if there were plans to expand this and would love to see it in Har’Akir.

For har’akir i would imagine the heat of the sun, (maybe spots of the fire from the wall of RA?) in the central parts of the desert that give a message: “the sands are warm today (or similar message).” The mobs/events that could spawn would be fire elementals or perhaps even some of the desert beetles from Thoth spawning in the sands or a wave of snakes?  Maybe a trigger or trap where you fall into a small one room ruin filled with critters and a rope ladder to get back out?

I know there is likly a lot of work that goes into such a system but I’d love for the mist events to be extended and to see something like it in har’akir.

A small ”local” sand storm… with creatures spawning from it is another option.

Imagine walking around the desert at night, and then you get the message “the sands shift around you ominously”, and then scarabs pop out of the sand. It would be amazing.

I also like the idea of falling into small rooms, or temporary mini dungeons. For example you could fall into a hole, and it turns out to be the lair of a dry lich and its phylactery/canopic jars.

+1 to the idea in general.

Small sandstorms could work too.
I like the idea of “the sands shift around you” too.

Har'akir is still in the mists so the mists can still appear there.

That said having them appear there would be cool.

Perhaps like Strahd's little fits, it could be the Pharoah rousing from his sleep a little, angrily?

I'm all for giving a place like har akir more chance to be alive or hubby, more interactive.

Oh that would be soooooo cool! Wandering around Har Akir killing undead spawns and then boom, a swarm of scarabs, or something. Or the sands shifting and you falling into a dungeon and having to find the exit which would drop you somewhere random around the original area? It could be really neat

Very true! I guess I just wanted to highlight possible ways it could work in har akir.
