Barovia - Castle Ravenloft
« on: January 17, 2012, 03:19:27 AM »
Sometime in the early morning, someone left a note and a bottle of some foreign liqueur at the gates.
The items were left in the alcove. during a heavy downpour.
"Gokudo Never Dies" was graffiti on the gate itself.

I survived the Blue Water Inn Massacre and all I got was this t-shirt.

Black storm clouds circle the towers and minerates. The dark sky is charged with a somber electrical energy. The ancient stone fortress stands as a silent monument bearing witness to a love forever lost.

A rider on a black stallion is seen heading west at a hard pace. Destination, Vallaki.

A cold autumn rain soaked the giomoto half breed as she was escorted by a Zarovan past the gates of Castle Ravenloft. The ancient fortress stood witness to her passing. Nothing is known to the reason for the visit. Come dawn the dancer exited much the same as she entered.

Recently across Barovia, a boom of thunder cracked across the skies. The clouds high above in the night sky are blown further from Castle Ravenloft as a palpable energy of anger and despair tears over the land. Moonlight cast down turns to a crimson hue; as the moon above congeals from grey to a blood red. Its presence an indication of foreboding tidings.

Uncontrollable shrieks of terror echo in the blood-red night within the darkest corners of the domain during the gloom. Growling, snarling, and hissing escapes from the entrances of tombs and catacombs forgotten across the land. Movements in the shadow flicker in any periphery, where rumor escalates that the foul Vrolok of the land have been even more mindless and ravenous.

Black storm clouds billow in the dreadful days as red lighting fills the sky, followed by the clasp of ground shaking thunder. The strange phenomenon persists as the Blood Moon rises each night hence. Swarms of bats take to the crimson night skies screeching and flying erratically above. Below, the monstrous growls of the vroloks can be heard outside every Barovian establishment; as they emerge from their graves and tombs in a ravenous bloodthirsty state...

As the dawn rises, it brings little hope as the living bare witness to the unfortunate aftermath. Bodies found torn to pieces completely drained of blood, smoldering piles of ash can be found scattered among the towns and cities. A feeling of dread takes hold in the Barovian people as they try to come to terms with the recent events. Most refuse to speak of it openly, hoping it will come to pass with time.

Wails of despair and yearning can be heard over the horrors of the Blood Moon. Only by those foolish enough to venture near Castle Ravenloft in Old Night...

Amidst the dark, awful night, two figures can be seen, trudging side by side across the country.  Coming down from the mountain at Krofburg, and heading across the countryside.  They are small, forlorn figures in the dark, one crippled by the loss of a hand, the other with shoulders hunched and heavy.  And yet they make their way across the countryside, inexorably and without pause, until they vanish from sight into the pass leading up to the castle that looms eternally over the land of Barovia.

They are no longer seen, but a firelight is soon seen.  Lit before the gate, its glow cast upwards.

In the faint glow penetrating the mists encircling the Count's dark fortress, a gleaming artifact dangles by its golden chain from one of the gate handles. Those scholars studied in the lore of ancient Barovian faiths would recognize the amulet known as Andral's Light.

A lonely silhouette entered the outer gates of Castle Ravenloft in the early morning dawn. Many hours pass and deep into the evening there lies a staked head of a one-eyed man as a new ornament around the gates of Vallaki. Those who might recognize him would know him as Caelan Cunningham. There is no message or warning aside from the harsh spectacle of a decapitated head showing the man befell a horrible fate displayed. A grim reminder of the fate of those who drew the Count's ire.

Night falls over Barovia, the new moon covering the land in true darkness. an elderly man leaves his domicile grasping a weathered bucket, making for the village well hastily. he pulls and tugs at the worn and rusted pulleys, grasping the handle of the filled vessel when he is startled by the horrifying shriek of a woman. He turns in the direction of the gut curdling scream, gesturing a symbol of protection as his gaze is locked on Castle Ravenloft...
