Warmage arcane spell failure
« on: May 29, 2021, 05:10:22 PM »
I recently made a war mage, and was under the impression that even at level 2 they ignored arcane spell failure from light armor based on the Armored mage feat. I however, have failed spells due to arcane spell failure while wearing a padded armor, pot helmet, worn winter cloak, and dual wielding a mace and dagger (all items purchased in teh pregame ooc lobby from the misty being).

Spoiler: show

IIRC Pot Helmet has +5% Arcane Spell Failure which is not ignored by the Armored Mage feature.

It doesn't per the item description, not saying it doesn't just that it is not stated anywhere that it does

You weren't suffering from exhaustion arcane spell failure right?

You've decided to clip out any status effects and to dual-wield to reduce your own AB so it is difficult to tell.

Were you casting cantrips when you hit spell failure? I've noticed I still hit arcane spell failure in light armor as a bard when casting cantrips.

You're experiencing spell failure because of the helmet, Armoured Mage feat only includes light armour.

It was cantrips.

As for the rest of the statements. Nothing that would add arcane spell failure. Unless it is the helmet, and that descriptor just is not placed in the helmets description like it is for many of the other helms

Helmets do not provide arcane spell failure unless they are defined as having it in the examine of the object as a unique trait. It would have to be a specific kind of helmet.

I've tried recreating this to no avail. Here are a few questions:

-Are you using an overrides, subscribed to any workshops?

-Were those warmage spells or another class'?

-Were those spells cast from scrolls?

No overrides or workshops, they were my spells. I haven't had the issue since removing the helmet, so unless it is just the helmet provided a 5% chance without the descriptor I don't know.

Oh Ive just thought of something, perhaps it wasn't the helmet, perhaps you were slightly exhausted but didn't notice it.

If it is a crafted helmet yes it gives 5% spell fail....somehow.
