Occultism: An analysis on the study of the mystery of the universe and the supernatural

Occult is a term that derives from the Darkonian occultus ("hidden") and refers to the knowledge of what is "hidden", or even to the knowledge of the supernatural, in antithesis to "knowledge of the visible", or official science .

The "occult sciences", The term usually encompassed three practices such as astrology, alchemy, and natural magic although sometimes various forms of divination.

The word, “occult,” is difficult to define.  To some, it represents a fascinating sphere of paranormal activity and mystery. To others, it implies necromancy and dark intentions. Very few people call themselves occultists, yet many are, perhaps even without knowing it. Those who do know it, rarely use the term due to an abundance of negativity surrounding the word.

Occultism has come to be cast in such dark shadows, because it truly is a place of wonder and offers opportunities to discover the mysteries of this universe we live in. The key to understanding the realm of the occult is to approach it without fear, bias or a desire to use it for unscrupulous reasons. It is a world of msny possibilities, like a beautiful diamond that reveals a different view of the world at every angle.

What is the job of an Occultist? To engage in a systematic investigation of nature and natural processes, in the context of theoretical frameworks that relied heavily on a belief in occult qualities, virtues or forces. Although there are areas of overlap between these different occult sciences, they are separate and in some cases practitioners of one would reject the others as being illegitimate.

Spiritism
Spiritist philosophy postulates that humans, along with all other living beings, are essentially immortal spirits that temporarily inhabit physical bodies for several necessary incarnations to attain moral and intellectual improvement. It also asserts that disembodied spirits, through passive or active mediumship, may have beneficent or malevolent influence on the physical world.

Mediumship
Mediumship is the practice of purportedly mediating communication between spirits of the dead and living human beings. Practitioners are known as "mediums" or "spirit mediums" (The Murusca family of Barovia seem to be practioner of such art)

Divination
Divination is the presumed ability to obtain information, deemed inaccessible, from supernatural sources; this practice often manifests itself through a ritual, in a religious context, and can be based on the interpretation of signs, events, symbols or omens or manifest itself through a revelation. There are both predictive practices of a person's future, more daily and an individual title, and practices with formal and social characteristics. (Vistani Raunie are notorious to possess the ability to foresee the future)

Why an occultist investigate the natural and unnatural? Because the occultist seek the so called enlightenment, this might sound something completely alien when it comes to "Science" but unlike other much more ancient ways of esoteric study, occultism does not reject "scientific progress or modernity". Occultism has its foundation in a religious way of thinking, whose roots lie in antiquity, where the ultimate goal is to reach the fabled "Ultimate Truth" or "The Evertruth" the revelation of all the mysteries of the universe.

Occultism is the science of everything that the mind doesn't not comprehend, a path of self improvement where the mind with each time elevate itself until it can reach higher spheres of thoughts. Every person is somewhat blind unable to perceive the unseen but with the practice of the arcane and the study of the unknown a person can find the meaning of life and death.

Sanguis Arcana: An  observation on the innate magic users and their origins

A sorcerer, sometimes known as a witch or innate arcanist or simply innates, is a wielder of arcane magic bound only by their own willpower. Unlike most other arcane users, particularly the scholars of the arcane sciences they are often compared with, innate arcanists have, as their name imply, innate magical ability and are noted for their lack of study in obtaining such power. And while a wizard focuses on isolating their foes and diminishing their ability to fight, a sorcerer prefers to unleash his or her full power, without restraint, this indeed can be proven quite controversial due to the unrestrained nature, but many of this sorcerers are capable of handling their powers just as any arcane scholar.

Innates are arcane artists, casting spells as a poet might write poetry, innately, rather than through regimented study. How they come by this power is not commonly known, though it is speculated thatt the Innates very flesh is, in some way, touched by arcane power.  Some speculate that they gifts might be of nefarious origins gifts by the evil agents of The legion, such as devils or demons, a theory I strongly disagree with, it is possible that some innate arcanists might posess powers of evil origins but it is not always the case. Outlanders coming from lands beyond the mists tell of having draconic blood in their veins, claiming their acestors to be descendents of the lengerdary dragons, some innates of this origins may even mutate physically an obtain draconic appearances, such has wings, horns, tails and claws, with the right will and attitude to persue such path, but that is a discussion for another time.

Regardless of the origin in question, most innates view their magic through a lens of emotion rather than logic, and they are not prone to specialization in the same way many Arcane Scholars are. As a result, most sorcerers do not get along very well with Arcane Scholars and are usually, at best, competitive with the studied mages, Many scholars view sorcerers as inept bunglers and innates viewing them as obstinate and unnecessarily secretive prudes. However, many who are neither fail to see a difference between the two in practice, some even aknowledges them as charlatans hiding their spellbooks to just impress and show themselves to be better than anyone else.

Most innates ost discover their power some time during puberty, where it begins to manifest in unpredictable and often disturbing manners, such as haunting lights or mysterious sounds. In time, most innates realize they are the source of the disturbance and react accordingly, either for good or ill. Fortunate innates might come under the tutelage of a more experienced arcanist but more often they are left to fend for themselves, friends and family shying away from them and their uncommon abilities. As a result, few innates feel any brotherhood of any kind, and have little urge to work with one another. Innates are often human or half-elven in origin, in part because of humanity's diversity and adaptability. However, there is nothing particular about humans that makes them well-suited for a innate's talents, and individuals of any race can manifest such powers.

Another peculiar user of innate abilities are those that are called Bards or Magic Ministrels, their powers, as it is usually claimed by them, comes from song and poetry. It is generally considered a form of arcane magic, but many bardic abilities blur this distinction, such as the ability to cast spells which heal. A bard's magic, like their music, comes from the heart. A bardic tale says that the multiverse began with the Words of Creation, and by the speech of the gods was given form. Bardic music is said to be an attempt to harness mere echoes of these primordial words, such topic will need another discussion by itself and further research to properly understand the mysteries of Bardic Magic, but iit was worth mentioning it to give a wider spectrum of understanding.

As a result of their uneasy upbringing, the ease with which power flows to them, and other factors, most innates are free spirits who flinch against authority and tradition. Most seek out an adventurer's life in order to expand their own power and test its limits. Some do this in order to help others, using their power to protect the weak. Others seek to simply prove themselves, obtaining a place of respect within society. Other innates have crueler ends in mind, however, intent on using their power as a means to subjugate or instill fear in those whom they consider inferior.

Such individuals are unjustly mistreated, their gifts considerered scandal in cultured countries, and a curse in most retrograde domains, this individuals if not guided at a young age at the early stages of their powers they can grow up to individuals that scorn authority and subvert the state of law, becoming dangerous criminals or necromancers if not properly instructed how to use their talents. I do not bealive that their talents are competence of the Université de Dementliu and the department of Arcane Sciences nor the Department of Arcane Studies of the University of Il Aluk, they could try such, but the risks of injuring other non innates are high. The solution might be a boarding school in the countryside, away from any public place, where they can learn to use their powers without injuring themselves and those around them, a place where they can learn their place in society, how to use those powers for good, for the betterment of the community as a whole even, with the right support such step could bring a great change on how we view innates no longer as a threat but as proper members of society.
