Maestro's Violin Bow Eats Spell Slots
« on: October 15, 2020, 02:40:34 PM »
When I equip and un-equip the Maestro's Violin Bow item on my bard ((The item gives Bard Extra Spell Slot 1-2, as well as +2 Perform), it eats one of my spell slots. Everytime I do it, it destroys another one. It's an interesting bug, and with a bit of care can be avoided, however wanted to point it out. I don't know if it happens only on me or others too.

Recreate: Keep equipping and unequipping the item on a Bard, and watch the spell slots just disappear.

I've been told this happens with all spell slot items for spontaneous casters.

My windows cracked, but they can be replaced.

It happens with items that grant Extra Turning too. You can't equip the item to gain anything, you have to rest to get its benefits, and then you lose them when you unequip it, so you can go straight from maxed out to nothing if you repeatedly do that.

Basically you'll just have to use all the spells before replacing the item.

I didn't experience that with the Moonfriend ring by the way. Yeah, like I said, with care it can be avoided. I was trying to use the item as a prop, and I watched my spell slots (all of them, not just the ones the item grants) disappear, everytime I equipped it.

Unless the change has been inadvertently rolled back, you should experience it now. The ring didn't used to work the way it does now, and some players (I gather) were getting extra uses by reequipping it.

We've rolled back those changes for now.

With me it was always that when I re-equipped it, let's say.. I have 12 uses, I used 3, got 9 left, and I unequip the ring. When I equipped it again, it was still 9. No extra uses, no less. Weird.

Yeah, that's how it worked for me until an update happened one day that changed it.

It was long ago: https://www.nwnravenloft.com/forum/index.php?topic=53130.msg641432#msg641432

I never knew that change was reverted and didn't mean to derail the thread, I just figured that this was standard behaviour for equipment that granted charges/spell slots.

Maestro's Violin Bow Bug

Seems that with the violin bow each time you equip and un-equip you loose spell slots.

Rest with bow in hand you gain the benefits of the bow + L1 and L2 spell slots;
Un-equip - You lose L1 and L2 Slots;
Equip - no slots gained;
Un-equip - You lose another L1 and L2 Slots;
Equip - no slots gained;
Un-equip - You lose another L1 and L2 Slots.
If you repeat equipping and un-equipping you keep losing slots until you run out.

Not sure if this is just this item it does it or if other items that gain and lose spell slots the same way.
