Vallaki - Western Outskirts - Sanctuary of the Coming Dawn
« on: January 28, 2007, 02:08:03 AM »
Madison slipped in the gates of Vallaki quietly just past day-break.  It had been a long and dangerous journey from Barovia, and she was barely on her feet.  She considered the Blue Water Inn,  then shook her head.  Even though she was “dead”, she was sure they wouldn’t appreciate ghosts.  So she continued on until she finally reached the western outskirts.  “Just a quick stop in the church…” she thought.
She tried to step in without attracting attention, but the heavy rusty door creaked loudly as it always did.  When her eyes adjusted to the shadows of the old church, she instantly recognized the tall silhouette of the man who leaned on the wall in front of her.  A cigar hung lazily out of his mouth, and he stared at the front of the church, not paying attention to even the ashes that fell on his arm.  She stepped up quietly beside him as she had done in the past.
Leaning close to him she almost whispered, “Still spending your free time here then??” He glanced at her, then stared in shock, the cigar dropping and rolling away on the floor.   He smiled and pulled her into a tight hug.  “Aye… ya look well.”  After returning the embrace, she stepped back and looked him over.  Grinning teasingly, she reached up and touched his face. “Given up shaving while I was gone have you?? Aren’t there any pretty girls left here to impress??” They laughed together, and began to catch up on all of the happenings since she had left, eventually falling into a comfortable silence.  “Maybe life can be good in this dark place…..” Madison thought to herself.

// just wrote something up quick to cover her return!!  if I have time I'll rewrite it better. :)

A young woman in black is seen visiting the grave of Sgt. Termas.  She brings fresh flowers and replaces them every night, and keeps the snow from burying it.  She is sometimes seen staying to speak to the grave in a low voice.

An old man wearing a strange set of spiked robes has been seen placing bones and skulls covered with carvings near some graves, and leaning over to whisper something. The bones are carved with strange symbols, and the carving hollows are colored with blood.

Some nights, soft, sorrowful singing can be heard coming from the graveyard, in a smooth, masculine voice...

[Upon the news of the murders of the Osteviks by the known Dragrins hands, the church of the Morninglord in Vallaki hereby disacknowledge any further affiliation with her, and contribute to the Ostevik Family to get them back on their feet. When Father Ilie is questions he responds with]

"We do not allow such brutal acts in our clergy. It is our oath and tenet to aid those in need, not to bring them harm"

[Ilie visits the temple, together Zachea and Ilie speak for hours on end before coming to agreement. With great sorrow, they open a small ledger and remove a name from the clergy registry. The older priest makes his way back to the Sanctuary with a heavy heart, and heavy steps]

A faint wind is rushing for short through the church as the two slitted eyes watch the priests. A wide smirk comes uppon her face listening to their conversation out of the shadows. She nods satisfied.

"One by one they will come to me...." A faint and merely not there hissing laughter can be heard through the hall as she rubs her hands... then silence...

A older looking halfling woman is often seen praying for hours on head, and aiding how she can in healing. She also offers a friendly ear to those that wish it. She often give blessing to those serving the causes of faith and goodness. She does not share her past, or where she came from. But those from Faeurn speficly around the Northern areas of the Sword Coast are able to tell her accent of that of a group of halflings living between Neverwinter and Luskan near the forests.

[Zachea spends most his days in silence, recovering from nearly dying at the hands of a guard he find himself unable to aid them with their own injuries. Some whisper this was the straw to break the camels back, others whisper he seeks to gather clergymen to help find the burgomasters missing son]

Drudoc having overheard about the inccident speaks to zachea quietly one evening. Though internally she is angry she keeps a calm and collected look about her as she speaks.  "Father word reached me of what happened. If there is anything I could do to help, I offer it gladly to you." She says with a soft smile looking up at him.

[Several onlookers watch on as a large unit of guards enter the temple and approach Zachea. Before them, the Lieutenant forces the one who assaulted the priest to his knees shirtless and whips him. Many murmur about his apology being forced or coerced by the lashings. Words between Zachea and the Lieutenant are exchanged, agreements of no further violence from the guard within his temple made. Upon these agreements, the priest shows the attacker forgiveness and heals his wounds welcoming the guards once more into the light of the Dawn]

From the edge of the church a silent knight waches the display seemingly somewhat dissaproving.

mumbling in a low woice:
Better curb their teeth
And get to protecting those in need
instead of gathering fines to further their own ends

Fools ignorant fools

A hooded and black cloaked man also watches from the shadows.  A smile of approval and vicarious satisfaction crosses his flayed face.  After the event he approaches Zachea and says

"It's good to see the law upheld in such a lawless land.  People, even guards, need to remember their place."

He then walks out of the church adjusting his iron plated gloves.

Rumours go by the barcounters in the silent nights of Vallaki, a dead body was found at the slum district some weeks ago.. A clean cut, intestinens removed though some of them left on the crime-scene... samekind of body was found some weeks before the slum incident, at the Lady's Resting upstairs..

Just recently, not more than a few nights ago, another body was found at the orchard north from the lady' Rest... body opened, intestinens removed..

The halfling priestess Drudoc speaks calmly one night finding Aran having overheard one of this asksings and seeing the torment and annoyance both in his face and words.

"Aran, please calm yourself. Not everything can be easily found or solved in days. Sometimes patientence must be had, and you must hold fast to your faith that the morninglord will provide a way in time for you." She speaks kindly and softly. To any observing its clear she has a kind and gentle heart even desipte all the horrors and suffering she has faced. "Sometimes just praying for a time for guidance might help."

Offering this one last piece of advice the halfling rises slowly chanting her own soft prayers in halfling granting a blesssing to Aran of insight and wisdom to him, before gracefully bowing to him and returning to her work in helping some peasants that had just come in.

// I've been lazy in getting to this so, meh...
Meant to have it happen about two days after Lucia was executed.

Rumours spread that after a conflict between the Boyar Guards and the Town Guards, in which one of the Town Guards was killed after attempting to strike a member of the Von Zeklos Family, the Town Guard announced that  the outskirts was "no longer their problem" and that outlanders that had troubles there should seek out the Boyar Guards. Though it is not known if the Boyar's accepted the responsibility

It is not known to most who is in control if this part of the land now and rumour creep in, some about about no law enforcement in the outskirts and others of the Boyar guards dealing swift and fatal justice to trouble makers

Rumors are rumors perhaps? Gaurds are seen patroling the outskirts several personal gaurds even along with the normal town gaurds are seen partoling around the outskirts, even as high up as Sargeant Dalakis has been seen dealing justice in the name of the count in the oustkirts

[Word spreads of the arrest of Father Zachea, and his return to the temple beaten and bloody. Later, it is discovered he has hired the knight known as Vasham to keep intruding 'ban and dark fey out of the temple for the protection of the good people of Vallaki]

*A young woman seems to have joined the cult as she often stands in the sanctuary, offering advice and aid to those heading below and who are willing to listen to her. She doesnt speak about the morninglord as much as she speaks against undead and about the need to leave the dead undisturbed.
Despite her helpfull nature a few disturbances in the sanctuary were attributed to her as touching the dead stored there for anything else than raising them seems to draw her suspicion, the local gravedigger can (and probably will) attest to that.
Despite that Zachea seems to tolerate her presence for the moment.*

rumours is heard that some people saw a dark robed figure walk in the graveyard behind the church. he was kneeled at one grave chanting some unholy words. when the figure heard that he was not alone he got up and whispered something and vanished by using magic.

people proceeded to the grave the figure was kneeled over and discovered a gruesome sight; Skeletal hand was sticking out of the dirt and moving... as if trying to crawl out. however it stopped moving eventually since the unknown necromancer was unable to finish the chant.

Witnesses report seeing two darkly clad women engaged in hostilities in the crypts. They say magics of fire and dark energy were exchanged between the two. The restless dead were shattered and decimated as the two fought a running battle thru out the crypts. One witness spoke of a large cat and a strange man with a helm shaped like a dog amidst the chaos. They speak of a green knight, tall of stature and strong of arm,who also joined the battle. Father Zachea and the Lightbringers had worried looks on their faces as explosions  were heard from beneath the temple. One dark clad woman came limping out of the crypts and left as she was heard saying "Blood God my foot..."
