Creseida's Song Book

[Each song is written in Vaasi with a page for translations into High Mordentish and Common. Music notes are inked in beneath each line, the pages also intended as music sheets. Beneath each song, at the bottom, is the sketching of a harp made from barbed vines.]

Fate of the Dirgist

Each night, I step into the dark forest.
I can not refuse his invitation.
His presence cloying yet the bitterest,
Unable to resist his abduction.
Drawn deeper into wasted woodland I fall,
Beyond the gaze of Luna, the song plays!
There the danse macabre sweeps all away.
The dead cavort in Death's grim thrall.
A forced celebration sepulchral!
Caught so in grasp, of this chilling display...

*\,/'\,/'\,/'\,/'\,/*

Skeletal hands beckons me forth gently,
The reaper's withered arms, wide to embrace.
I gaze upon Death's rictus contently,
Drawn close wrapped in oblivion, displaced.
Consoling whispers which he does confide.
A profound longing of souls so desired.
How can I let my beloved languish?
Such souls I shall deliver gratified!
A sea of slaughter my love does provide,
Dancing amongst the choir of anguish...

*\,/'\,/'\,/'\,/'\,/*

The people did weep bitter tears and wail!
Atop my throne of bone, I stared, irate.
They cried weakly that darkness would prevail.
My fate appears sealed, then shall I restate?
Is this not what I was destined to be?
A doomed mouthpiece of the damned, driven out!
Why can you not see the truth of it all?
I sing for solace, not as a banshee...
Alas, few listen despite how I shout.
I will not rest now, for I cannot fall...

An Assassin's Lament

Across the rooftops I did creep,
Beneath where the city did sleep.
Veil aside, through window I sneak!
A door opened, slowly it creaks!
Into the room I quietly slip,
Dagger drawn, I prowl for my prey.
Stealing inward, I almost trip.
A doll below, to my dismay!

*\,/'\,/'\,/'\,/'\,/*

Ignoring my reservation,
Tonight there is no Salvation!
Pushing a door aside, I prowl,
My grim features hidden by cowl.
Asleep in bed, there lays my mark.
Silently, I move to the bed.
I plunge the knife with no remark!
Softly my hand solemnly muffles his cries!

*\,/'\,/'\,/'\,/'\,/*

A squeak breaks the silence, behind!
Turning, I see a silhouette.
Shaking, she held the doll and whined,
Blood spread on the bed, such regret!
I leap past her, sobs fill my ear.
Out the window, a dark night clear.
The last I hear are the girls tears!
“He will pay”, I mutter, sincere.
Taking to streets, my hunt renewed!

*\,/'\,/'\,/'\,/'\,/*

Onto the grounds I slip,
Elusive, I avoid the guards.
One guard I give my dagger's tip,
Advancing quickly through the yard.
Climbing, I scale the house's wall,
Following torches, I find him.
The door protests, and I enter.
He sits with goblet filled to brim.
“It is done then?” He asks, sipping.

*\,/'\,/'\,/'\,/'\,/*

“You lied, he did not deserve it!”
The other pondered, "He wronged me...
“Your payment is here, come and sit.”
“One matter left, try not to flee.”
The goblet flew across the room!
The merchant quickly drew his sword.
I slashed, “Tonight I am your doom!”
Blades struck loudly as if a chord.
Blood flew wide and the two collapsed...

The Fire Within

The scoundrel barred the noblewoman’s route.
A lecherous hand offers poisoned rose.
His remarks of lust as equally barbed.
Her blade ready, the Warden intervened.
The heretic was issued a challenge.
Duel to the first, a test of virtue.
Without honor, the knave was defeated.
The Hero offered his hand to his foe.
Exemplifying Ezra’s holy tenets.
In return the heretic gave him blade.
The Warden was felled, mortally wounded.
Despite his wound, he was not defeated...
For the legion will never know success.

A ceaseless flow of blood for you to hate?
My blades shall then oblige, for none need wait!
Their screams to my song does seal my fate.
None are spared no matter how great a plea,
Embracing my doom with the utmost glee,
Until His loving caress does claim me.

Ballade of Triumph

Softened steps silent throughout umbral Night,
Venturing forth, vengeance without delay.
Vigilant, He stalks the prey who take flight,
Shadows shroud His bloodsoaked attire of gray.
Cerulean eyes pale as Winter’s day,
Look for those made fragile by minds insane.
Path of tenacity, He joins the play,
Ascending the mountain of those He’s slain...

*\,/'\,/'\,/'\,/'\,/*

Denouncing the ‘altruism’ of the bright Light,
Your poisonous words shan’t lead Him astray.
Hands gripping your throat, He’s never contrite,
Blood has been spilt and in kind you shall pay.
He’ll stand betwixt you and those thrown away,
Guardian, ever watchful, of the Drain.
Assassin, peerless, He’ll hunt you today,
Ascending the mountain of those He’s slain...

*\,/'\,/'\,/'\,/'\,/*

The audience and actors fill with fright,
For His lack of mercy is no hearsay.
Center of the stage, He’ll face the Playwright,
Unrivaled, Death conquers your failed soiree.
Corpses piled atop the macabre dray,
He breaks the sky open to sanguine rain.
Roses thrown, He catches the mauve bouquet,
Ascending the mountain of those He’s slain...

*\,/'\,/'\,/'\,/'\,/*

Museless, you've allowed your soul to decay,
He’ll best you, then ascension He’ll attain.
Shadow and Death are His mantles to display,
Ascending the mountain of those He’s slain...

Lullaby of Remembrance

Do you remember, the blood of your past?
Every life you took, as it faded then?
The fear in their eyes they would not outlast?
The dread you placed in the hearts of brave men?
What of all your struggles on your dark path,
As you battled all those whom faced your wrath?
Can you remember, Lord of Death and Night?

*\,/'\,/'\,/'\,/'\,/*

Steel your heart and prepare your soul once more,
For the cards have revealed the end is nigh.
You stand against what threatens all the Core,
With enemies you fought now made ally.
Relax, breathe, and recall your victory,
Over Death tenfold, and the demon three.
Can you remember, Lord of Death and Night?

*\,/'\,/'\,/'\,/'\,/*

Your soul is at peace, your mind will be clear,
And you will destroy all that's in your way.
The demon will know your name and feel fear,
As you take the crown and the cards away.
Once more, my love, it is he you must kill,
In bloody battle for King of the Hill.
Please remember, my Starless Sky of Night...

The Thief of Fate

Have you heard the tale of the Thief of Fate?
I'm the one who risked everything, you see.
They bowed low but I refused to prostrate!

*\,/'\,/'\,/'\,/'\,/*

I was born unfree, never to be great,
But through blood and wit, I now sing with glee,
‘Have you heard the tale of the Thief of Fate?’

*\,/'\,/'\,/'\,/'\,/*

Many were duped so I calmed my heart rate,
Then tricked the fiend to a deadly degree.
I faked my bow, I refused to prostrate!

*\,/'\,/'\,/'\,/'\,/*

My wish, to be the greatest thief to date!
To pick any pocket in stealing spree,
So that I would become the Thief of Fate.

*\,/'\,/'\,/'\,/'\,/*

I signed my name, while his pride I did sate,
Weaving deception with honeyed decree.
Never bow low, you refuse to prostrate!

*\,/'\,/'\,/'\,/'\,/*

A name, not my name, became my checkmate,
Throwing myself to him in woeful plea!
Picking his pocket for the Cards of Fate,
Never again would I bow or prostrate.

Sonnet of The Beggar Queen

Have you come to offer secrets to me?
Your deepest desires laid bare at my throne...
Ask for the girl who stole fate to be free,
And I'll tell you what's hidden and unknown.

*\,/'\,/'\,/'\,/'\,/*

My shadow walks down the caliban's aisle,
Looming above my cards on the table.
My knowledge of gambling is versatile,
My skill at damning you is no fable.

*\,/'\,/'\,/'\,/'\,/*

Who's scared to be Wanted: Dead or Alive?
I'll dance to your rage and drink to your tears!
You are not the first, yet I'll still survive,
For your taunts will fall on deafened ears.

*\,/'\,/'\,/'\,/'\,/*

The Beggar Queen of the Exiled Domain,
The Court of Miracles is where I reign.

The Solace of Winter

My sleep is restless, heat consuming me,
And the pressure in my head will not cease!
Snowflakes on the window in filigree,
The chilled draft drifting in to give me peace.
I can feel the burning in me decrease.
The fever that's slowly killing me fades,
As Winter enters my room and cascades.

*\,/'\,/'\,/'\,/'\,/*

I walk down the stairs and they scream in fear,
‘Do not go near one so cruel and cold!’
‘You are sick! You need someone who's sincere!’
My hand on the door, my actions are bold,
I walk outside, ignoring what I'm told.
I can feel the cold snow soothe my bare feet,
As it chases away the deadly heat.

*\,/'\,/'\,/'\,/'\,/*

I see ice covering each of the trees,
Before I fall, embraced by the pale snow.
While all perish to Winter's cruel freeze,
I am grateful He chilled my burning throe,
This vile, scorching fever that He made go.
I'm lost in His eyes, I'm lost in His smile,
To see it again makes frostbite worthwhile...
