Feature request: Hide item transfer messages
« on: December 09, 2019, 01:54:05 AM »
Request would be to hide the item transfer message to avoid spamming in the middle of roleplay (when someone is setting up their wares in a nearby chest, for example).

i.e.

If possible, add it as a toggle under the rest menu.

Thanks

Alternatively, we could make a timed counter and subsequently simply say “removes X items” one time after the first five or so.

These can’t be turned on or off per-player.

What of sleight hand and stealing from the chest? Won't such change remove a message or the very possibility to figure out that something has been taken from the crate/chest for the owner of the wares?

I mean, I’d think you’d still notice if there were 6 messages posted in chat.

Perhaps I missed some detail, but why exactly six messages were mentioned?
I am certainly not against the idea, in fact  I find this to be great addition, however with how heavily balance leaned towards stealth users these days I want to be sure that a possible upcoming change won't ruin or interrupt merchant's ability to track what's going on by their chest. That's it.

A valid concern; though I'm curious, do the messages actually appear right now if a stealther takes from a container? I thought they wouldn't be visible to characters who can't perceive the stealther.

I casted invisibility on myself yesterday before putting my wares into the crates and people in the mist camp told me they were still getting the messages that items were being put into the crates

That's because invisibility is bugged to where if they could see you before you were invisible, or you walked within listen distance of them while invisible, they can still hear you. Stealthers however, cannot be heard -- But if you were to trade with someone from stealth, without Sleight of Hand, the message will still appear above their head.

What might be simpler is to just resort to "adds/removes several items" rather than a specific number, unless you want it to be specific for a reason. But yeah, I would definitely welcome some way to minimize that massive chunk of stuff that buries anything else going on.

It's trivial. You have to count the number anyway.

If we remove this,  How would any merchant know someones robbing their chest?,  how would a party member know if someone without sleight of hand is stealing from them in a dungeon?..  this messages provide an important function to the server, and in small cases even provide Rp opportunities.

I dont think it needs to be removed completely due to it being a minor annoyance

Compressing it to messages that say how many items have been taken will be helpful, when it happens. I saw another server move it to the combat log, but that has advantages and disadvantages too. I like the idea of it though.

I think moving it to combat log is a good alternative - if it is a potentially offensive action (like stealing) the merchant will be keeping track there all the same. What are the disadvantages according to you Sardine?

That means iterating over every player on every single item; that’s expensive.

Yeah, and other than that, some people minimise their combat log, although it would help reduce clutter even if you play with a merged log or something.

It's a minor annoyance to me and provides useful ic information. If it can be trimmed down without being eliminated that's a nice perk.

As far as stealing from merchants goes, I am of the impression that this is grounds for PvP and anyone attempting to steal from a merchant's "stall" should be toggling hostile to do so. Anything else would be a rule break. DMs, feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

In terms of reducing the number, for controlling muling, I understand that each possessor of an item is tracked. Would it be possible, therefore, to mute the notice when the item is transferred by the most recent owner?

In other words, the script checks to see whether the person transferring the item is a new owner or the same owner. If the same owner, it does not fire the message.

Yeah, that might do it.

If item.LastOwner == oPC
 Do not fire message
Else
 fire message
