Barovia - Krofburg - The Tent City
« on: November 19, 2019, 11:13:29 AM »
More rumours spread of other new arrivals in the tent city. A group of Ezrites are said to have set up an encampment among the many tents. Those who know more of such things murmur the foreign cultists are of the 'Fourth sect'. What their business is in Krofburg is anyone's guess.

The Fourth Sect encampment in the past few nights had been fortified, with a sign denoting its ownership.
Training dummies are set up, and arms are laid out, in preparation for the training of soldiers. It seems like they intend to stay.

Amongst the twisted labourers of Krofburg a new trouble seems to have taken hold.
They call it 'Blinding Sickness', and it is spreading amongst the smelters. On the smoke-choked hillside above the Tent City, their numbers thin out day-by-day, as more and more fall to the affliction.

A man wearing a Bellegarde Uniform is seen approaching the smelters. He takes notes and scribbles something down in a red leather book. He stokes the fire before finishing his notes and walking away.

Overnight, a small portion of the Tent City's Ezrite Schoolhouse has been screened off. Bedding, bandages and a drapery of blankets which shut out the light mark this as a sort of makeshift recovery ward for the smelters afflicted by the Blinding Sickness.

In the morning, a Bellegarde Agent can be seen distributing heathy leather gauntlets, aprons, and goggles with darkened glass lenses to the remaining smelters.

Strange events in Krofburg's Tent City.
A Caliban worker, one who operated the ever-spoking smelters for the Bellegarde, has perished. Some say he was mad, possessed, or merely driven to desperation when he set to destroy the smelters, and much of the forests surrounding Krofburg, on fire.
A host of outlanders, amongst them a contingent of the Ezrite faith, sought to stop him. They fought the inferno, which is said to have roared curses with the ferocity of the hottest furnace. Some speak of a malevolent, leering face in the fire. An evil spirit, or was it merely trick of the light?

In the aftermath, one of the Ezrites, badly burned, was carried away. Under the watchful eyes of the Bellegarde, the workers begin the slow, but inevitable process of repairing the smelters.

From the North came a Knight clad in black steel. He seemed driven by purpose as he made his way through the tent city. His first stop was at the School house where he stayed briefly before moving onto the Town. He asked various people about detailed descriptions and whereabouts of Stefan Raducan, Morrigan Harding, and Constanta Lazarescu. He left once night fell leaving only the echos of his clanking armor in the wind.

A figure in a dark, hooded robe passed through the tent city today.  He wandered the area for a time in a slow, methodical manner as if searching for something or perhaps following a trail.  As night fell, he spent the majority of his time outside the perimeter of the tent city in solitude and meditation.  As dawn broke, he headed back down the mountain.  One can only guess if he found what he had come there for.

[A young Darkonese woman arrives in Krofburg shortly after the sunset. After securing lodgings for herself at the Wandering Billy, she is seen approaching local minders, and asking about any "ancient ruins near the slopes of Mount Ghakis" they might be aware of.]

Conrad Burkhart is seen making the rounds, first stopping at the smelter to inspect the equipment and the workers then secondly at the Bellegarde Mines. Later that night he was seen trailing off and into the mountains to destinations unknown. He only returned late one morning the next day covered in frost looking terrible engrossed in his steel-reinforced journal. Before he could disappear into the back rooms of the Consortium, he was waylaid by a woman being followed by one of the local militiamen. They departed for the Burgomaster's residence soon after...

A lithe handsome Borcan man is seen in and around the Miner's Merriment in Krofburg. He is also seen passing through town collecting a few supplies and running errands. His face and build may draw the looks of the locals as is a bit more polished than the denizens of the Tent City. Perhaps Krofburg has a new resident.

A young Barovian man with a vacant look in his eyes has been seen roaming the tent city, speaking to the locals. His orange robes and amulet marking what he is quite clearly.

A young Barovian man in the uniform of the Krofburg militia, with a symbol of the Morninglord dangling from his neck is seen hacking apart several barricades of the Fourth Sect encampment. He leaves a notice on a post nearby.

Quote
ATTENTION:

This barricade has been dismantled for blocking trade on the road.

All future barricades will remain within the allotted land for the encampment.
