Moonlight pierced the tree ceiling, as sun elf moved forward on her way. The torch threw lazy shadows all around her. Woman was in good mood. It had been just few weeks for father finally out laying her future.

She could choose and she did choose. She picked service in household troops. She immediately met grumpy disagreement from father, but he was unwilling to go back on his word. So be it, she had been sent into training. But if the arrogant and prideful ar-tel-quessir expected to be treated any special, the life proved her wrong. While mere wild elf, the tutor belonged to veterans held in high respect and he felt no understanding for snobby noble. The fact she came from side line and irrelevant branch of house, did not help it either. He made clear she is to work double time to be recognized as junior officer and posted anywhere.

Despite that, and despite this routine patrol belonging to one of his endless drills, she walked in cheerful mood. Next fifty years of service will pass fast, that she believed in. Her thoughts circled around the future. First service to household, then the family would arrange marriage and found her position in higher levels of house. Adlyn suspected father already chose the man and arranged it in secret. That would be fully like him. Scheming and plotting and unaware participants in his plots finding out necessary things they need to know the moment it happens.

Did she mind? No. You can never doubt the wisdom of several centuries old parents. But this may be the last time she is allowed to carry and swing sword about. With these thoughts, she smiled. Practise blade slipped out from the scabbard and woman cut and slashed against the virtual foe. Fifty years is a lengthy time. She may become a well known sword woman. Or even take part in some of these campaigns to reclaim lost relics. The fame and glory. She paused and looked around. "Come out and face me, orcish scum!" claimed loudly and stabbed into the air. Her laughter followed, as hid the sword back into scabbard.

It took two centuries for her parents to quit treating her like a child. Despite burdened with duty and drill, the elf felt finally free.

Two more miles to walk around the coast. Busy in her thoughts, the soldier suddenly felt a cold breeze. She raised eyes and looked around. Twig cracked nearby. Woman, feeling a strange cold spilling down her spine froze in place. Eyes searched around and hand slowly drew a sword. All her courage and bravery moments ago were gone. The elf, dreaming about putting the world down to her feet, stood now in her own homeland, scared to the bone. All instincts shouted inside her. Run. The only thing, keeping her in place, was her pride. She is a god damned Durothil. And they never flee. Hand gripped sword and the woman forced herself to go on.

"Come out whoever you are! I command you!" her voice resonated firmly around. Turning own fear into the confident expression, to persuade herself she is not scared. No reply. She took in deep breath and moved on. With nothing happening, her sword found its way back into the sheath. Yet her fear lingered. Eyes peeked sides and back. Over and over.

Then she once looked forward and nearly bumped into a dark figure on the road. In reflection, raised the torch. Her lips parted to speak, but then her legs broke and while collapsing to the ground, the world twisted and disappeared.
