[Messages are affixed at three city gates during the night.]

CLEMENCY FOR TALTOS!

People of Barovia!

Mirabel Taltos is your sister, she is your daughter.

How has this maiden barely old enough to be called a woman wronged you? She has placed her life on the line day and night to defend you from creatures of old noapte. Alone.

Her commanding officer--the peer she admired and respected most--was turned into a vampire. Did any of her "superiors" in the Garda lift a finger?

Because of Taltos' faithful service even at such a young age, she had the responsibility of command then thrust upon her. Why did these desk warriors promote one of so little experience except to avoid having to deal with the danger themselves?

Yet now they judge her and condemn her to death. Where have these officers been while the ranks of the Citadel have been decimated? Night after night, so-called "men" like Martin Lascar have hidden behind Taltos in their comfortable offices, living off the people's wages, leaving a promising woman only in "her second decade" but of courage to patrol our city in mortal danger.

They call for the poor girl's head!? They should be hanging their own heads. IN SHAME!

Perhaps Taltos has erred. Perhaps she deserves to be dishonorably discharged. But those of greater rank and responsibility cannot be allowed to throw this lamb to the wolves to shift blame from their own sheep-like cowardice.

Where is the accountability for those in the chain of command?
