the crafted pick, steel- does not give as much ore from a vein as the mining pick does.

This is fully intended. The mining pick is a tool, whereas the crafted pick is an adaptation into a weapon. Each with their own respective uses.

I have that special heavy pick, designed for mining that deals acid damage (cant remember name Spike something maybe) and I was eager to try it out.. Turned out it totally sucked, and I kept talking about it and people were like IT should eat rock superfast cause of acid and I was like yea, but acid eat the Ore away! I think it's perfect item. Gotta get normal miner's pick again.

Indeed, these aren't bugs. Heavy and Light Picks are weapons, not proper mining tools. You can mine with any weapon but only the crafting tools yield better results.
