Spears, Parry and Small Stature
« on: February 23, 2019, 06:20:38 PM »
Hello!

Spears can be wielded by Small Stature creatures (like halflings and gnomes) as a two-handed weapon.
For the purposes of Parry AC, they are treated like a regular 2-hander, applying 1 point of AC per 10 points of Parry.

Given that the spear is effectively a pike in the hands of a halfling or gnome, is it an oversight that it is not treated like a polearm (halberd) in the hands of a medium creature, granting 1 point of AC per 5 ranks, not 10?

Improved parry feat makes 2 handed weapons be 1 per 5 ranks.

Cosmic's point is that you don't need Improved Parry for 2 handed polearms (e.g. Halberds).
“Moral wounds have this peculiarity - they may be hidden, but they never close; always painful, always ready to bleed when touched, they remain fresh and open in the heart.”

Spear switches to being a 2 handed weapon if you dont have shield equiped for medium creatures. Small creatures shouldnt be able use a shield and it still  2 handed weapon.

Improved Parry let's you use heavy two-handed weapons without penalty.
For a shortling, a spear being held in two hands is heavy. Weight relative to size.
