Crashing in Port
« on: February 03, 2019, 02:35:34 AM »
I don't know if this is a server issue or a CPU issue but I know a lot of people who have this problem. I walk in to port. Every time before I make it out of the city I crash on one of the maps. Once I crash once everything is fine. Its literally every time I go in to port.

I'm sure you already know, but are your video settings to minimum and have you set your "MaxTextureMemory" to 256 in your nwn.ini file?

It won,t stop you from crashing now and then, but it did improve performances for me.

I can attest that even with settings minimal and the altered ini it still causes me to crash in port, and like noah said, once the crash happens it's fine

Yeah I suspected as much too, but just wanted to leave no stones unturned. It seems to me that crashes are more prevalent since the last Beamdog update. Let's keep sending those crash reports to Beamdog.

I have had a hard time finding the file path to nwn ini. since it launched on steam I just have a bunch of crash dump files. Whats the best path to find it?

Nevermind I found it and it was on 256

Any DM on the server, and anyone I have RP'd with will attest I crash about every 2 transitions in Port. And almost always, unless it's right after I've logged in, I will crash in the Savant.

I am still having this issue on a regular basis. Any new recommendations? It is very frustrating and has become more prevalent for me in the last year not less prevalent.

Not really a new suggestion but along the lines of MAB's one, I used to crash pretty often in Port even with minimal graphics settings until I changed my MaxTextureMemory to 2047, though I've the specs for it. Now I just crash at what I assume is the usual expected levels given the people around me usually crashing roughly in the same time frame if they haven't relogged.

If this isn't an option, and you often arrive by Port by caravan, you can use the long wait time during the ride to log out and back in & refresh your NWN before the caravan reaches its destination. Takes a little extra effort on your part, sure, but technically doesn't cost you any further time spent.

As I used not to crash very often at all but now crash frequently since upgrading to Windows 10, I've switched the game to run in Windows 7 comparability mode. (I did try adjusting all my graphics settings as has been suggested previously.)

Will report back later if this improves anything.

My windows cracked, but they can be replaced.

Didn't help. I crashed in the Docks area in Vallaki twice virtually in succession tonight, and that has been one of the problem areas before now.
