Bronze: Somehow worse than copper

(1/2) > >>

TheFury:
So I'm not the most experienced person with the crafting systems, but in the process of messing around with smithing something somewhat incongruous has come to my attention:

The DC and materials required for making bronze are both higher than they would be for copper--the DC to make a bronze weapon is 3 higher than copper, and the smelting process for bronze first requires smelting copper and then smelting it at a higher DC with tin to forge the alloy.

However, bronze weapons in particular are straight worse than copper. The penalties for both are the same, but copper at least has a bonus. Bronze has absolutely nothing going for it. This isn't to argue that bronze should be amazing, simply that it should have some benefit above its copper equivalents.

This seems to be only limited to weapons, I will say. Bronze armor is slightly better than copper.

zDark Shadowz:
I think I read somewhere that bronze is supposed to be harder than wrought iron but not as strong as proper steel. The transition from bronze to iron age was more from a shortage of tin & the lower costs of iron.

I wonder if it has special properties when enchanted.. in any case I'd be an advocate for a flat +1 damage bonus across all weapons for bronze goods.

MAB77:
Bronze have their current properties on purpose.

There is nothing inherently wrong in having some materials harder to work while easier material provide better bonuses. Like in real life not everything has to be a linear progression. Yet both bronze and copper items have their uses and benefits, it just doesn't have to apply directly to battle.

haifisch021:
Bronze makes better arrowheads than copper and comparable heads to iron ;)

Silas Rotleaf:
Are the bronze weapons lighter weight than their pure copper counterparts? 🤔
