« on: August 28, 2018, 12:56:29 AM »
//The following posts are various writings and documents of Canovill's. It wouldn't be terribly difficult at all to get a hold of his writings. In fact, Canovill always leaves copies of his work where ever he goes if he is able. So if you see Canovill in game you may choose to have picked up some work he left behind. Entirely up to you. Canovill typically visits Barovia, Dementlieu, and the Mistcamp. Although he may also be found in other realms. This post serves as a table of contents sort to speak since his written works won't be in any particular order and they can be found by title and category below. Another thing I would like to add is if you would like to post responses, criticisms, etc to Canovill's "work" feel free to post here in the journal. Finally, if you have physical books given to you by Canovill, feel free to assume you have everything on the list.//

Enlightenment Through Madness / Slavers and Their Slaves
Written by Canovill The Astronomer

In order to understand the philosophy of the great old one, one must understand humanity's enslavement; and of course how to reclaim what is rightfully ours. Entirely like the animals, intelligent life such as humans, dwarves, and elves want to exploit and dominate the resources that surround them. This is of course absolutely natural and good; however the gifts of great intellect come with a great curse. This great curse sets us apart from the animals. Sentient life; had become afraid of death. The fear of death, the fear of injury and loss creates vulnerability. This vulnerability is where the curse lies; it means we can be controlled. This state of being controlled; makes other sentient life an extremely valuable resource; in fact a controllable person is so valuable that a price simply cannot be placed upon it. Fellow people are the greatest resource for any sentient creature to control. An Olive Branch for example cannot be coerced into producing more olives; people however are so very different. This process of control has lead to basic civilization as we know it. What more is a society than just a slave owner and his slaves? The lord of the land pays his guards; his tools to enforce his law; his will upon the humanity within his lands. What a bold claim it truly is to be a lord of the land. The title in itself implicates the very untruthful paradox that it stands for. The Lord of the Land means that the lord owns a piece of nature. Did this man ask nature for this land to own? Did nature give it willingly to this lord? or Perhaps the lord simply took what he selfishly thought was his and corrupted it to his benefit; to dominate surrounding resources including other people.

This is the enslavement of humanity. When our deepest most inner instincts are controlled, our understanding of reality is controlled, and our general way of life is dictated by another. Who better to know ourselves, than ourselves? What right does a corrupt creature have to enact their law upon others? This conditioning that enslaves us starts the moment that you are born and for many carries with them to the grave. The simplest things can be easily demonstrated: eating at certain hours, complying with rules, and behaving in such a way that won't have you locked away. This isn't freedom by any stretch of the imagination; and to consider it freedom is perhaps the worst case of enslavement. Now that humanities curse is understood the question stands: "What is the answer to this enslavement?".

The answer is simply Madness. Madness is curiously defined by those who are not "mad" at all. What madness truly means is something out of the ordinary, something that does not fit, and more directly: something that does not conform. Those who are mad do not fear death; but rather take on the understandings of the world as do the animals. They do as their nature intended, in their mind they are free and uninhibited by the societal norms that control the masses. When a mad person is discovered the immediate reaction is to institutionalize; to cure. When the truth is this "cure" is much more of a disease than the madness is. Though breaking the restraints set upon ourselves by culture and society is no easy task. Cthulu will lead all those willing to learn to this enlightened state of madness; though there are tasks one can do to fight back against this terrible enslavement. Free the mind from the fear of death, follow instinct rather than direction, and not simply failing to listen to authority but defying it. The only person who can free themselves from enslavement truly is themselves. When Cthulu awakens permanently from his slumber however; his destruction and purification will take the power from the slavers. The people will truly be free to live as their nature intended them to.

The Beckoning of The Great Old One
Written by Canovill The Astronomer

Among the stars exist worlds beyond our very own. Only through powerful and magical telescopes that we may truly confirm this. There is however other ways. Through the careful guidance of the Great Old One; it is possible to see beyond the stars with his almighty help. Lurking on a far flung world rests the Great Old One. Nestled within the city of R'lyeh, the corpse city; the city of corpses. This city is sunk beneath the sea. It is called the Corpse City because only Cthulu is known to inhabit it.

The Great Old One, The Elder God, and Cthulu. Are all names of the same being who sleeps beneath the sea in the corpse city of Rl'yeh. The death like slumber of the great old one simply exists to hold him back from ushering in purity and freedom to all across the cosmos.

From time to time the city of R'lyeh does rise from the ocean and the great old one is allowed to walk the world as it were; however this is only for a short amount of time before he must return to his seemingly eternal slumber. The reason he sleeps is due to a magical barrier; it is unknown when the barrier was placed.
Perhaps the old one himself placed that barrier to prevent himself from doing his work prematurely. Regardless the rhyme, or reason; great Cthulu with each passing day further tears down the barrier that encases him, and as stated before there are times where his barrier wanes for brief moments at a time. When this barrier is finally broken he will bring about an apocalyptic destruction that spreads across the stars and cosmos. Only those truly enlightened by his teachings will remain to see the great old ones reign.

In his awakening will he rebuild what was destroyed; and create an entire cosmos full of complete liberation. The slavers will be destroyed and the enslaved will be free to explore the world as nature intended for them. Only through destruction can we have purification; and only through such strong purification can all walks of life be free to do as they please; to live the lives that they were meant to live. The purpose is a curiosity and changes understandings between individuals.

While one may see the purpose more direct; others see the great old one as an act of natures revenge against the societies that seek to enslave and destroy it. The only way to truly tell is through proper and constant communication with the great old one. Only through our dreams can the old one speak his purpose and educate us on what would be our best understanding for his most divine plans.

The novice will attempt to "Call" Cthulu. This is foolish mistake; Lord Cthulu answers to none; however he can be beckoned. Beckoning is neither so much a call or a command; but rather an invitation. The truth is Cthulu chooses to enter dreams; but is not necessarily compelled to do so. Typically speaking, Cthulu chooses the most creative of minds to visit. It is through the vivid dreams of artisans, scholars, and story tellers that Cthulu arrives to dreams. The reason Cthulu chooses these because their ability to be creatives provides him more power to manifest in dream.

Cthulu's urge for creative minds; thus requires a very open and free thinking mind. One that is not contained or enslaved. Defy authority and live as you please. Discover your inner happiness and become the animal you were born to be. Meditation upon his elder sign will also help open the door for the Great Old One to visit. Pictured below is the rune of Cthulu. Meditate upon it before rest and his appearance in dream can be increased drastically.

Lastly, deep, vivid, sleep, and dreaming is a near necessity for the Great Old One to at least receive your beckoning. In future works I will be looking at different herbal enhancements to help induce this state of mind necessary to receive visitation. Beckoning is only the beginning of what become a long and scholarly journey of faith life.

The truth is, there is no inherent truth. What may be personally true may not be true for another. One can only beckon in order to receive education from the Great Old One. The rest is decided by Cthulu to decide what you need to learn. While dreaming focus not on understanding what you see but what your mind naturally understands. Cthulu takes on many visages but his favored that I; Canovill have seen look much like the sketch I have provided with this text at the end of the document. The key to Elder God Cthulu is simply to dream your most vivid dreams, let go of the convictions that enslave you, and become one with your true self.
