Dawn's first light reveals that during the night a grisly trophy has been stuck to the garda house door: a human face has been removed entirely from the skull and left along with a parchment of quasi-religious or perhaps philsophical ramblings.

The skin of the face is as brittle as the accompanying parchment, and close inspection indicates that someone appears to have desiccated it, as if attempting to make it into a crude and gruesome mask. Its condition leaves identification of the one-time owner impossible.

A lone man was clattering about the slums at night, calling out at the buildings surrounding him in the winding alleys. A self important speech in Luktar, to most that would be awakened by his booming voice. The voice died down rather quickly, with only the faint sound of a closing sewer grate to follow.

The long abandoned corner-house on Strada de Moarte seems to have gained a new tenant. The door is left open throughout the day and a short woman is seen sweeping dust out into the street. After a fair mound of soot and debris is forced out in front of the place, she is seen departing, only returning to haul bits of furniture back into the building.

Dawnbringer Loredana Vaduva was seen leaving the Garda Barracks just before dusk, blood soaking her hands, her expression one of complete exhaustion. She moved slowly through the alleys towards the Sanctuary of the Eternal Dawn where she stayed throughout the night.

After many weeks of almost abandonment, the Wayfarer Kinship Lodge seems warm and inviting again. A slight, raven-haired young woman is seen cleaning windows and sweeping, a contented and even cheerful expression on her face.

After old noapte descends over the village, still a light shines from the Lodge into the streets and darkness surrounding it.

My windows cracked, but they can be replaced.

A small and seemingly frail woman leaves the Citadel at dawn, her dress a gory mess. The summer rain washes rivulets of blood from her as she pauses a moment to let it cascade over her upturned face. She fumbles uncertainly for a key at the door to the Wayfarer Kinship Lodge before finally letting herself in and closing the door behind her, not to be seen again for some time.

Little seen in Vallaki since her public beating, the raven-haired woman arrives by ship in the company of a green-clad Ezrite. The two speak warmly once on shore, with the Ezrite then heading west. The priestess buys a large, meaty bone at the butcher's and stops briefly at the Wayfarer Kinship Lodge before--sans bone--again boarding a ship and departing back east.

The dawn is rent by keening, gasping cries of distress and fear. Ovidiu Francu, the young and well-liked apprentice of the butcher in Strada Moarte, was found—mostly—in the gutters, body parts slashed into pieces with a clean edge and strewn across a hundred feet of the city. Some of him is still missing.

Another grisly murder has struck the municipality of Vallaki. Bogdan Stanca, a local cobbler, was found scattered in an alleyway near the dRowned Rat in hundreds of pieces. Only identified by his characteristic fancy footwear, the garda investigated the scene as it appears the assailant has struck once more.

Some denizens in the Slums begin to take on a somewhat sickly disposition as rumor has it some new 'alchemical reagents' have been spreading through the underbelly of the city and causing somewhat of a stir.

Stories unfold of a doctor and priest in blackncloak and garb offering aid and medicine to those fallen ill. Some locals have come to know of Doctor Nightscape and his goddess the Avenging Mother. Those slighted have slowly flocked to him on behest to cure the recent illnesses befall those of the slum. Some have even heard him to stay from other faiths and doctors as it is such mal practices that cause them illness. Some have seen him walking the night aiding those in need.

Private Dumitru Nistor is often seen patrolling the Slums. He clearly knows the area well, checking every dark alley, investigating the abandoned buildings, checking on the patrons of The Tigan's Rest.  Any which he discovers are ill, he escorts to the Morninglord Sanctuary

Rest in Peace Dumitru Nistor

A Borcan acolyte of Ezra seems to be venturing the Slums District, inquiring locals about the dangerous plague spreading, even entering seedier hubs like Tigan's Rest to obtain information on the latest gossip surrounding it. The unfortunate requiring aid that approach the acolyte are immediately dismissed and coldly told by the Borcan that salvation can only be obtained if one is part of Ezra's flock.

Soon after the city gates open, the Wayfarer Kinship Lodge is seen enduring an early spring cleaning. The washed windows have been thrown open to let in brisk, fresh air, and laundered linens hang from the sills, drying in the sun.

Occasionally, dirty but soapy water splashes onto the cobblestone streets from an oaken mop bucket.

Passersby notice the smell of tea brewing and scones baking.

Walking into the slums a dark cloaked figured in a well tailored suit dawning a gold mask speaks to the populous there. "You of the lower class have been plagued. Slighted because of ones greed or ones ambition. The Dawn helps you and yet is not here for you in nigh5 as you suffer. Ezra helps you only when it suits her when one become their flock. You need not suffer these slights. Nor should you suffer the indignity of churches so called charity. The Avenging Mother has no diffrence. If you are plagued you are slighted as I both doctor and priest will tend to you with all my ability at the ready. If you choose to accept the mother of the night I welcome you to my flock. If you do not the doctor in me will not turn from your suffering. Come ye innocent slighted by plague of ones ambition. Let the succor of the Avenging Mother be upon you and know her name for penance to those that prey on the weak."

Doctor von Nightscape would be seen working and healing around the cloak. Profesionaly warding himself medically and prayer so he may remain strong tending to victims. Though most barovians would be hesitant it is those desperate to be cured who would come. But he does not turn down anyone even rumored to head to the sewer to the less down trodded tending to them. The doctor accepts herbs which he makes to give to his patients often spending time at the hospices with children sharing stories and tales of his adventures.

A few nights ago many beggars were ushered into the hospice inside of the slums to seek healing as other locales were becoming crowded with those seeking treatment. Unfortunately, after a bloody night, an outlander priest of Ilmater known as Eugen Goldis was found dead alongside those who sought shelter and care there as the sanctuary filled up with those seeking treatment by the Morninglord clergy. An off-duty guardsman was among that slain who went there to protect the sick from the dangers of old Night with his silver coated sword. A reminder of the danger of Old Night can sow on those seeking help from disease and illness that plagues them. Denizens, Barovians, and outlanders alike, removed the bodies for burial as the lower town of Vallaki suffers from relentless assaults of neuri and disease that has claimed the lives of dozens.

Rumors begin circulating throughout the Grey City that the Vicar of the Morninglord faith suffered a horrible accident. She was seen being lead into the Sanctuary of Eternal Dawn by the Garda, no shackles but wearing a blind fold over her eyes. She hasn’t been seen since.

Early in the week, a group of colorful oddballs have been seen cleaning out the old hospice in the slums, hauling out old and rotted furniture to be burned, heedless of the chill in the air.

Word is that a wealthy investor is intent on seeing the place operational again, and healing is being offered for the sick, food offered for hungry bellies, and a warm refuge offered from the winter winds for any Barovian brave enough- or down-on-his-luck enough- to tolerate the company of the goofy Outlanders who now run the place.

In the early hours of the night, the sound of splintering wood and distant screaming could be heard from the area of the Garda's barracks. A closer inspection into that alleyway would find a most unsightly scene, one any curious cat might not wish to investigate further...

The dawn of a new day brings a fresh patrol from the Citadel to relieve the guardhouse watch. Lance Corporal Teresca Mitrea lifts a hand to caution the two Privates in her company at the sight of the sundered door and the promise of what lay within. The young junior officer enters with her resplendent blade drawn and returns several minutes later, her face stricken and pale.

She speaks with some of the arriving outlanders but soon enough the guardhouse is barricaded from access. Eventually the sight becomes one of a small detachment of guards cleaning what had transpired within. The cobbles stain reddish pink as buckets of dirty water spill into the street yet the work seems unending. It is unfinished by nightfall but the guards do not seek shelter within, instead making their haggard, defeated march back to the Citadel.

The door remains sundered into a second night. The carpenter appeared slow in arriving...

Private Anghelescu and Lance Corporal Mitrea took on the task of cleaning the bloodied Guard House. Saw dust was collected from the Crafting Hall and sown over soaked blood. The floor was thoroughly scrubbed, so did walls where bloodied messages were left. Bloodied carpets removed and replaced, all that remains are busted doors and a hit on the guards morale.

As dusk falls, a pitic and garda are seen walking through the narrow alleyways of Vallaki's slums.
At the tolling of the sixth bell, the garda re-emerges onto the main thoroughfare, sans the pitic.

During recent days a large fire burns brightly within The Gaping Wound, warming the small tavern during the cold Barovian nights.  Small, half burnt candles illuminate shadows through the windows, signifying the presence of patrons within.  Behind the bar a young woman with dusky olive skin and brown hair bustles about, pouring drinks and cleaning glasses while tending to her regular customers.
