Under the dark shroud of Old Night, close to the Witching Hour, a brilliant blaze, and a loud peal of thunder roared over the slums. The column of smoke could be seen as far away as the other side of Lake Zarovich as the Gaping Wound was set ablaze. Broken glass and splintered boards litter the streets where the derelict old tavern once stood. The skeleton of the building still stands, the charred black remains of what was promised to be rebuilt and reopened again, and again.
Rumors speculate that a handful of lightcarriers as well as garda were present when the building was set fire. Eye witnesses recall a strange smell, and the upper levels of the building exploding outwards, then collapsing upon the base as the embers raged. No casualties have been reported from the fire itself. . . however, in the mid morning hours, a looter by the name of Herbrek Rustinov was found crushed to death beneath the weight of a support beam that had apparently fallen upon him as he tried to make his way through the rubble, looking for anything valuable that could've been salvaged from the wreckage.
