Energy Drain feat not always working

Tried to use Energy drain on another PC but for some reason it didn't work. I think I may have been under the effects of Improved Invisibility at the time?

I've seen it work before, but this time it just did nothing. Not sure why.

The PC was under a negative energy protection spell?
