Du Chantier

Established in the early history of Dementlieu, the du Chantier family is an old, moderately well known family for their particularly sweet vintage of wine that is fairly popular amongst nobility of the Core. They aren't known for an overly strong political presence, but the current lord of the house, Maximilien du Chantier, is quite content just running his vineyard in the countryside of Dementilieu. As for his wife, the lovely Lady Noelle du Chantier, she spends her days working as a doctor specializing in women and childbirth. Rumors have always circulated around the house, of individuals within the family possibly being practitioners of magic, though what kind has not been seen in public...

House de Renault

"Par fidélité, prospérité."

Through fidelity, prosperity.

______________________________________________________________________________________________

Brief History

House de Renault is a long standing house, if one of modest means. The scions of the de Renault family may boast of a noble lineage that stretches back as far as the tumultuous days of the Lord-Governorship of Bernard Foquelaine when they were but moderately well to do merchants within Dementlieu's burgeoning middle class. It was in this time of great uncertainty in which the Lord Governor had begun to forcefully segregate the lower classes away from the gentry, that the family's patron, Anthoine de Renault, chose to throw his lot with those who traditionally held power. Diverting what resources he was able to the acquisition and training of a small, if disciplined, retinue of sellswords, Anthoine lent the family's newfound martial might to the fight against growing peasant agitation. In recognition of Anthoine's continued support for the powers that be he was granted a noble charter and estate in the form of the Barony de Lyonnais, a respectable plot of land just south of the Lamordian border along the coast. Unfortunately for the de Renaults their favor was not to last and in response to the upsurge of violence within the city that ended with the Lord Governor executed and countless dead, the de Renaults were forced to make a hurried retreat to their new barony. In the days, since each successive patriarch of the house has maintained a curious, isolationist attitude. Though their estate stands in good health, carefully preserved and oft entertaining wealthy visitors from Lamordia, the de Renaults maintain nearly no contacts among their fellow gentryfolk and are highly reluctant to send out their scions into the wider republic except when called upon to do so in times of war.

Middle-son of the Jaspar de Renault, Baron de Lyonnais, Vincent de Renault. Has been sighted in the City of Lights, either sporting house colours or a Gendarme uniform, he seems to be rather quiet. He wears a rapier in his belt and seems to keep a rather small social circle consisting of other gentry.

The only daughter of Denisot de Renault, Frederika, recently arrived in the City of Lights as well. Although mademoiselle de Renault claims to be only visiting her cousin, the amount of baggage she brought suggests the young lady is in no hurry to return home.

Close to two decades ago, Marcel de Renault was the only son of Alphonse de Renault and his wife, Adeleina de Renault, orphaned by an incident along a vacation cabin close to the Mursarde River.  Raised then by his uncle, Denisot de Renault, Marcel remained reclusive in the family’s Lyonnais estate.  In the recent year of 777, however, the once elusive Marcel de Renault has been spotted in the City of Lights, wearing the uniform of the Gendarmerie Nationale.

House de Poudre

“Service et sacrifice”
Service and Sacrifice

______________________________________________________________________________________________

House Poudre traces its origins to the conclusion of the Executioner’s Campaign of 724 BC, when its founder Lieutenant Renaud Poudre was rewarded for his exemplary service with the establishment of a new noble house. Along with the title of Baron, he was granted a strip of land southwest of Port-a-Lucine where the house estate, Chateau Vregné, still stands to this day. Suitably for a House established in the fire and brimstone of the battlefield, the new Baron dedicated his House to the pursuit of martial excellence, and in service to the Republique the House grew in stature from its exploits on the battlefield, its retainers particularly noted for their merciless conduct towards Falkovnians. House Poudre, as befits its namesake, relies heavily on its skilled marksmen to make up for their low numbers in whatever conflict Dementlieu finds itself engaged.

As of 773 BC, however, the house finds itself in disarray following the conclusion of the internal strife that so recently ravaged the nation, as the current head of the family, Baron Basil de Poudre, lost his youngest son and most of the House's retainers on the battlefield. With the fair Republique now thrown into another war against the invading Falkovnians, the prominent members of the House nevertheless remain reclusive, still licking their wounds from the battles of the Civil War.  Although, not wishing to draw the ire of the Covenant, the House has thrown its support towards the current Government, at the present it can offer little to support or manpower.

Even before the recent calamities, the family was no stranger to tragedy. Basil de Poudre lost his wife Dauphine de Poudre to complications of childbirth after the arrival of their third son, Philippot de Poudre, the same boy who later fell fighting the Covenant in the Battle of Point Sable. Of the two remaining sons of the Baron, the interests of the eldest, Gassot de Poudre, are best aligned with the proud history of the House, while the second eldest son René de Poudre is seen mostly at Ste Mère-des-Larmes and does not hide his devout faith to Ezra where before the Civil War shattered the lives of House Poudre, he was in training to become a Warden of the Third Revelation. Ironically, the youngest child and only daughter of the Baron de Vregné, Mercedes de Poudre also has the interests of the house in mind, having recently come of age and busied herself with bookkeeping and finances of House de Poudre. In the new world born from the ashes of the Covenant's war, who can say where the Grand Scheme will lead him?

House d'Orsine
« Reply #28 on: April 23, 2019, 10:41:17 PM »

House d'Orsine is a minor player upon the grand stage of Dementlieuse politics. Possessed of a venerable bloodline, they can trace their founding back to the country's myth-shrouded early history. Despite this, they have always been a house of relatively modest means. Until very recently, their sole holding was the Baronnie de Chardenne, a scant stretch of woodland along the Lamordian border.

A somewhat reclusive house, the d'Orsine family has traditionally shown little interest in the broader political landscape. Their attentions have been limited to the maintenance and improvement of their own demesne. Still, they have always enjoyed a solid reputation for dedication and martial service. No great conflict in Dementlieuse history has passed without d'Orsine men upon the field.

The recent years of unrest have only served to reinforce that reputation. While the Falkovnian invasion saw their estates vastly improve, it was not without a cost. For their valiant service, Osborn d'Orsine was awarded the title of Vicomte de Desrieux. However the conflict cost them the lives of the Berenger d'Orsine, then-Baron de Chardenne and both of of his sons, Osborn and Arthur. Both titles passed to Berenger's younger brother Bernard d'Orsine. The civil war thereafter took a further toll, costing Bernard his youngest son, Bernie. Today, the house counts but half their original number.  Bernard Orsine remains blessed with his wife, Laurette, and three two of their four children: Preben, 27, Espen 24, and Bernadine, 19. Such is the cost of duty.

Recent History
Spoiler: show
House d'Orsine was uninvolved with the Revolution. The whole affair was originally seen as a political stunt, but they watched the events that followed with increasing concern. Whatever misgivings they may have had, these differences were set aside in the spring of 770. House d'Orsine was among the first to muster arms in response to the Falkovnian invasion. They volunteered quickly and acquitted themselves admirably throughout the conflict.

At the beginning of the conflict, the house was lead by Berenger d'Orsine, the Baron de Chardenne. He would die early in the war, passing his title and leadership onto his eldest son, Osborn. Osborn himself was gravely wounded in the fighting to follow. He lived long enough to receive the title of Vicomte de Desrieux as a reward for his family's distinguished service, but tragically passed on soon after. Compounding the tragedy, his younger brother Arthur died days later under unrelated circumstances. In her grief, their mother soon joined them.

By the time of the Civil War, leadership of the House had passed to Bernard d'Orsine, the original Baron's younger brother. House d'Orsine has always shared a number of social and political ties to the Ameranthe which were only strengthened by their experiences during the Falkovnian invasion. When the Maitriser issued a call to arms, they were among the many eastern houses who marched in answer.

Duty demands sacrifice. Bernard d'Orsine marched west with all three of his sons. Tragically, only two returned. The youngest, Bernie, was lost in the taking of the Chateaufaux. So soon after having lost the entire elder branch of the family, this loss was heartbreaking. In many ways, the family is still recovering.

The Siege of Ameranthe
Spoiler: show
The most recent falkovnian invasion took a toll on many, and house d'Orsine was not immune. Following Espen's wedding to Danielle Travere, the newlywed couple returned to his ancestral lands and took up residence and management of the Baronnie de Chardenne, with Espen's father long-since residing in the more recently acquired vicomté de Desrieux and the eldest son Preben leading a contingent of house troops in service to the Duc d'Ameranthe.

The honeymoon period had scarcely cooled when the Falkovnians invaded once more. The d'Orsine lands were far enough to the north that they were not in the direct path of the enemy force. Instead, what followed were several months of bloody chevachée, fiercely fought skirmishes with Falkovnian raiders ranging further and further inland. While Preban's men were occupied defending in the siege, it fell to the remaining son to lead what left of their troops in the defense of their lands and people. These efforts were complicated further by a massive influx of refugees from the lands south, seeking shelter from the fighting.

In this, the second son was mostly successful. Despite the best efforts of the house and its remaining troops, much was lost and many were killed. Yet still, these losses were a paltry sum in comparison to the utter devastation that befell much fo the east. The family's greater losses were more personal. Preben d'Orsine fell in the Siege of Ameranthe. Not long after, Danielle d'Orsine suffered a complication in childbirth. Neither mother nor child survived.

The aftermath of the conflict was in many ways more trying than the fighting itself. In addition to personal grief, the rebuilding process of their familial lands was significantly complicated by their newfound swell in population, nearly doubling as many refugees had no home to which they could return. The efforts to feed, clothe, and care for such a population have stretched the household reserves to their limits. Building new homes and infrastructure has become a full-time effort. Compounding all this, between lands ravaged by Falkovnian troops and the volcanic eruption in Darkon, this year's harvest promises a lean and bitter winter.

With things now settling into routine, the Vicomte de Desrieux has decided to send his son back to represent the house's affairs in the Capital. Espen d'Orsine was dispatched just in time for the election.

Which he missed. By a day. Waylaid on the road. Where there are roads, there will be brigands.

House Beauregard

"La vérité conquiert tout."

The truth conquers all.

______________________________________________________________________________________________

Brief History

House Beauregard's holdings rest in the northern part of the Dementlieu, near the Musarde River and its border with Lamordia, between Maison Fré and Mistree. Rewarded for his service and heroism in the Executioner's Campaign, a chevalier de la Republic named Sieur Isaac Beauregard would be named Baron de Malouet, ruling over a parcel of land and a thorp by the same name. Following his death, Emeric Beauregard would inherit both his title and his land and become the family's newest patriarch; with his eldest son Maxence having perished in the Battle of the Frost fighting alongside the Maitriser's men, his younger brother Maxime is his heir.

House Beauregard once had a reputation for being superior vintners, using the fertile soil close to the Musarde River to their advantage; however, a few years ago, a rather pernicious and persistent rot plagued their crop, and it would return again the following year. The family has since seen the rot wholly removed from their grapes, and yet the wines it introduced and unveiled just a year before were met with mixed criticism, with most connoisseurs and sommeliers considering them to be mediocre at best, a far cry from what the family had produced before.

The problems House Beauregard has faced do not end with their floundering vineyard. It is said that only a few months ago, at a soirée hosted by the Baron's wife, Melanie, a hulking figure, a caliban, emerged from the cellars, shocking guests and generating much chatter about a secret that was already poorly-kept to begin with: the Baron de Malouet's second daughter, Marion, was a caliban. This unfortunate girl would die quietly in the waning days of 776 BC.

Despairing at the rumor and ruin surrounding her family, the eldest daughter, Charlotte Katharyn Ember Beauregard has thrown herself into a life of work and service, in command of the families household guard. Dogged by the same poor luck that surrounds her family, the young duelist has been known to delight in the misfortune of her foes as much as she dwells on the bitterness of her family. Although dispatched to Port-a-Lucine to secure a marriage which might turn around the families ailing fortunes, Charlotte would not long survive the death of her sister, throwing herself from a great height in a fit of apparent suicide.

"L'argent en paix, l'acier en guerre."
Silver in peace, Steel in war.

Like so many noble families, House Travere traces its founding to the Executioner's Campaign of 724 BC. Captain Charles Trevere was ennobled for his distinguished service and granted the Baronnie de Primevère. Their coastal holdings are modest, lying just south of Aquitaine. Much of the family's fortunes are tied up in shipping, operating out of the city proper.

House Travere has long been a family of soldiers and sailors. In addition to its shipping company, the family maintains several small military vessels. In times of peace, these have been deployed as escorts to ships traveling commercial routes. Several of Charles Travere's own sons enjoyed some fame as renowned pirate hunters.

During times of war, the family has served in both the army and navy. Most recently, they were among those many southern houses that joined the Covenant cause following the tragic death of the Duchess Simone d'Evreux. The family's ships were deployed and took part both in the Covenant Blockade of Port-a-Lucine and the ensuing Battle of Point Sable. Fortunately, no blood members of the family were lost in the fighting.

As of 774 BC, the family is headed by Victor Travere, Baron de Primevère. He is joined by his wife, Camile, and until very recently their four children: Raphael (25), Jeanne (24), Danielle (18), and Hugo (12). The family remains in mourning with Jeanne's husband, Germaine Angevine, following her death in an unsuccessful childbirth.

House Tremblay

"Il vaut mieux être que paraître."
"It's better to be than to seem."

______________________________________________________________________________________________

House Tremblay can barely be considered two generations old, which leads many of the more vaunted noble houses to regard them with disdain and contempt. In their eyes, the family are little more than a family of upjumped merchants and that isn't too far from the truth, considering the noble family's origins. Léopold Tremblay was a spice trader and seafarer from Ste. Luciennes who had experienced middling success up until a voyage to Sri Raji in search of saffron ended in disaster. In a desperate attempt to rebuild his fortunes, he would take his vessel, the tragically-named La Moufette, and sail towards Souragne for sugar. This he found, and he would also find the captivating Marcelite Maillard, a dark-skinned Souragnien beauty whom Léopold couldn't help but feel drawn in by. Several voyages would follow, with Léopold every time bringing in a ship full of sugar that was quickly snapped up by confectioneries, bakeries, and fine dining establishments throughout Dementlieu. After one fateful voyage, Léopold Tremblay would bring home something else... or rather, someone else. That someone would be Marcelite Maillard, the woman who would not but a year later become his wife and soulmate.

The obscene wealth he made through the sale of Souragnien sugar-cane enabled Léopold Tremblay to secure for himself the support of the Council of Brilliance (through bribery, detractors would say) in the issuance of letters patent. He would be named the Baron de Choisy, his family's estate a small parcel of land just outside of Chateaufaux with a manse and a few nearby farms. Marcelite Maillard would give birth to one boy and one girl, Vencelas and Raymonde respectively. Both were encouraged by their father to devote time to the family business, with the son favoring the work far more than the daughter. During the Revolution of 770, Raymonde was sent to live with her grandfather, aunt, and uncle on the Maillard plantation in Souragne; however, she was hastened back to Dementlieu upon word of a violent revolt burning down the Sauvrier family's plantation nearby.

The civil war would lead to the family's near-destruction. La Moufette, still anchored in Ste. Luciennes' port, was requisitioned and outfitted with weaponry for the war effort, only to later be sunk by a Covenant vessel a few months later. When Léopold Tremblay protested, the Captain of the Gendarmerie in Chateaufaux, one Felix Charbonnier, declared Léopold Tremblay to be a Covenant sympathizer; his assets and land were seized soon after. He would be executed, his family forced to watch before they were imprisoned awaiting trial shortly after. When Chateaufaux was taken by the Covenant, they were freed and when they marched on to take Port-a-Lucine, the family's patriarch would be posthumously pardoned and the family would have restored to them all that was lost... save for La Moufette and Léopold. For him, it was too late. The loss of her husband would prove too much for Marcelite to bear and for the months following his execution, she was haunted by his memory. Thus, she would follow in his footsteps, taking her own life.

Vencelas Tremblay would succeed him as the new Baron de Choisy, a mantle he reluctantly assumes alongside management of the family business. Concerned for the legacy of his family, Vencelas nevertheless is married already to a woman named Lorraine and they've an heir in their four-year old son Aubin. Still feeling as though lacking in experience, he doubts himself and the decisions he makes, especially where they relate to politics, frequently. Raymonde, his sister, has made her way to Port-a-Lucine in part to pursue her own ambitions but also to do what she can to help her brother back home.

House de la Rochenoire

"Tout est gagné, rien est donné."
"Everything Earned, Nothing Given."

______________________________________________________________________________________________

The founding of House de la Rochenoire dates centuries prior with the grant of Charbonne to the then established baron Louis-Joseph de la Rochenoire. The small town and its surrounding lands near the Northern reaches of Dementlieu provided the descendants of Louis-Joseph with the resources to excel as entrepreneurs within the textiles industry. Through his legacy the family grew in steady prosperity until the year 707 BC when Lord-Governor Foquelaine ordered the execution of thirty peasants found swimming in Pernault Bay. The family chose to support the decree of the Lord-Governor with its patron, Guillaume de la Rochenoire, emerging in Port-a-Lucine to speak in favor of the nobility. His callous words salted the wounds of the poor and during the revolt that followed, the assets and holdings of the house were destroyed. In the wake of this considerable loss came the execution of the Lord-Governor, a blow which severed the family from its political allies and influence.

House de la Rochenoire entered a state of seclusion, with the children of its successive generations unwilling to extend themselves in matters of country. Its current patriarch, Bernard de la Rochenoire, is known only for donations issued to charity, where the family name might be found among the long lists of noble benefactors. A brief resurgence in the last days of Provisional Government rule saw the family elevated to new heights, only to come crashing down. Although the Baron de Charbonne was not implicated in the plotting of his relatives, he suffered some consequence, with his heir's inheritance attained contingent upon good conduct towards the Council of Brilliance.

House Voland

The House of Voland spans back seven generations of nobility, beginning with the man who would become Baron Pascal Voland. A shrewd man, Pascal made several wise investments, both in the shipping industry, as well as local trade of silks, gems, wines, and other novelty trinkets.

It was in this way, he met his wife, Nichole Roche, the daughter of another family of reputable means. They purchased a parcel of lands near Chateaufaux that held lovely gardens and an estate for the raising of their family. It was then decided to be called, Yvoire, and a new village took root, starting with this one family. Nichole went on to have three sons, the eldest of whom was given his father’s namesake. Their trade expanded through a few ships they owned, as well as travelling to surrounding domains to bring back exotic trinkets and novelties. Pascal’s intelligence, integrity and sound business practices placed him to walk in fine circles of wealth and privilege, but did not yet hold title.

It happened that as Pascal was returning home from a voyage, he came upon a man being held hostage on the road to Chateaufaux by a band of thugs who would hold him for ransom. Pascal and the men who travelled with him did not hesitate to spring into action, and rescued the man, without thought for their own lives or well-being. This man turned out to be the sole heir to another noble household, House Quilleboeuf.

News of this heroic deed spread quickly, as gossip does, and for a short measure of time, it was spoken of heavily. Pascal’s connections and business soared to the highest it had ever been with this new surge of popularity, and his fortune and status of his name grew. Through these business dealings, and general contributions to Dementlieu’s economy, a title of Baron was eventually quietly granted by the Council of Brilliance, thus beginning the first noble generation of House Voland. It would soon become a common story amongst the family that this noble deed of valor is what secured their place amongst the upper class, however, some rumors also spoke of monetary gestures being given quite conveniently….

The line continued on, with Pascal’s son eventually marrying, and inheriting the title from his father. The business, Voland Commerce, grew consistently throughout the years, surviving the ebb and flow of the tides of success by focusing on consistent profit, rather than too far-reaching goals and risk. Even through the Falkovnian Invasions, and civil war, the house of Voland remained a steadfast, loyal supporter of the Council of Brilliance, and their fellow families of status.

The current Baron Pascal Voland VI resides still in the original lands and estate that the family line purchased all those years ago, with his son, Pascal Voland VII, and his daughter, Madeleine Voland. Tragically, his wife, Evelyne Voland is said to have passed away from illness, when their two children were still very young. As the holdings and land have expanded over the years, the residents of the small village have increased also, to include extended family of the house of Voland, many families employed by the Baron, and others of a trade variety. Yvoire remains most famous for it's lavish gardens.

While the Baron is still of age he could remarry, he seems to the general public wholly uninterested in such, and instead is said to focus the vast majority of his time and attention on his only son, to ensure he is fully prepared to inherit. It is said that his youngest daughter, Madeleine, entered society at the age of eighteen to study at the University. She enrolled in an accelerated program to study Medicine.

She was enrolled only a few months however when a proclamation by the provisional government was made to conscript all noble men of proper age to enlist in military service. To prevent the possible loss of the only male heir, the tax of ten thousand solars was paid out of Madeleine's own personal funds, to protect the family fortune in uncertain times, and it is said the young woman voluntarily enlisted to ensure her family name was still represented.

It was not long after the conclusion of her military service that her courtship with Anatole de la Rochenoire abruptly ended, sparking rumors of his abandonment of her, and what would have been a profitable match. Very little is known of the exact details of what transpired between the two, except that Anatole went on to marry outside of his noble class. Madeleine would go back to her family estate in Yvoire, likely to escape the rumors and gossip surrounding the failed potential union.

Recent sightings have placed her back in Port-a-Lucine, and amongst society once more.

Family Information

Spoiler: show
Baron Pascal Voland VI of Yvoire (age 49)
The current Baron Voland is a calm, shrewd man of measured words, and reserved affection. He stands tall, about six feet, with dark raven hair (streaks of grey, as of late), green eyes, and a somber demeanor. Many say he used to be a much more jovial man, but since the the death of his wife, it is rare to see joy in the man's reflection.

He is known, like his predecessors, for his sound and fair business practices, but travels often, taking an excessively involved hand in the running of his business affairs, rather then allowing others to go in his place. He is devout to the church of Ezra, although his actions seem to be mere tradition, rather then true faith.

Baroness Evelyne Voland (Deceased at age 31)
Evelyne Voland, formerly Evelyne Brodeur, came from a House of noble standing herself. A woman of meager stature, Fair skin, bright, clear blue eyes, waved curls of rich auburn locks, marked her as a great beauty.

An accomplished singer and artist, it was not unusual for her to sing in grand performances, with high praise from her peers. Her engagement to Baron Voland was arranged early in her life. They are said to have been close since childhood, a friendship that blossomed into love when they were old enough to marry. Tragically, the Baroness was stricken with illness a mere six years into the marriage. The exact details are unclear, only that she succumbed to death in her sleep, peacefully.

Pascal Voland VI, future Baron of Yvoire (Age 25)
A tall, handsome, charismatic young man, Pascal the Seventh holds much promise in his youth. He favors his father strongly in height and appearance, save for bright blue eyes, given to him by his deceased mother. His demeanor is kind, and serious. He is well-spoken, and has the rare gift of making people feel instantly at ease. He is very comfortable in all social circles.

While he has been said to have briefly courted a lady of standing occasionally, he seems dedicated intently to focusing his attentions on learning the family business practice, as one day it will depend on him entirely. He was a mere nine years old when his mother passed.

Madeleine Voland (Age 21)

She is said to have grown up with delicate health, and as such, suffered to be confined to home and bed with her tutors and governess frequently.

A slender, whisp of a girl, of diminutive height, she holds all of the beauty of her late mother, perhaps more, but the similarities cease there. Those who have met her speak of a shy, socially bashful woman, with a tendency to stutter when speaking. Certainly not the well-spoken, angelic voiced performer that her mother was.

All the same, she is kind and graceful, and represents her family well.

House Vaillant

Faites votre devoir quoi qu’il arrive
Do your duty, come what may

The Vaillant line is one of Port-A-Lucine’s oldest bloodlines, tracing its lineage back to the days of Emperor Leon. Some notable members of the family have been regarded as heroes of the republic, renowned for their courage and nobility in the face of adversity. Over the years however, the once mighty house has lost much of the power it once enjoyed, and these heroic figures are barely remembered as long forgotten ghosts.

It was with silver that the Vaillant family found their fortune originally, as pioneers and frontiersmen that mined and exported the precious ore across the Core. In Dementlieu, silver was in much demand to craft the expensive jewelry and ornaments so much beloved by the gentry. For many decades the Vaillant house enjoyed the benefits of being one of the sole sources of the precious mineral, operating their network of mines from their ancestral household of Château de Gris. The family never forgot their responsibility to the republic, however, as their sons would contribute to the Dementlieu military and played a large role in the political arena.

Recently the house has fallen onto difficult times. The silver has begun to dry up, and the family’s long standing trading arrangements with various organisations, including the Bellegarde family, have likewise begun to falter. Now the Bellegarde have looked elsewhere for their source of silver, with rumours that vast quantities of the ore have been discovered in Barovia. The rumblings of war to the North where the family’s mines are located also throws the house into uncertain times. In addition, the house patriarch, Sieur Louis Vaillant, Duc de Bourdonnet, is currently very ill and is bedridden at his estate of Château de Gris. The duke has recently passed his eightieth year, and is cared for by his younger wife Duchesse Collette Vaillant. He has little involvement in his stately affairs. His heir and eldest of his three sons,  Antoine Vaillant, Baron de Duchbourg, is plagued with scandal and controversy regarding his controversial lifestyle. The Baron is known among social circles for throwing extravagant parties, for maintaining questionable personal relations, and for excessive spending of the family’s now dwindling funds on luxuries and hedonistic pursuits. He has shown little interest in managing his father’s estate. The Baron de Duchbourg is known to not have any heirs - or at least, none that may be legitimate.

The Baron’s younger brother, himself aged forty-nine, is the exact opposite in most respects. Whereas the Baron de Duchbourg is hedonistic, Grégoire Vaillant is traditional and conservative to a fault. As is tradition for Dementlieuse noble families, the elder Vaillant was taught to manage the family estate and businesses, as well as shown the art of politicking and social maneuvering. These were lessons which he soon chose to ignore. As the second son Grégoire was expected to join the military, in which he had a long and respectable career before retiring due to a war injury sustained during the Dementlieu Civil War. In the absence of the Baron’s attention in dealing with the family’s important matters, Grégoire has since taken to managing the family’s estate and business concerns, being the only one able or responsible enough to do so. Grégoire Vaillant, signeur de Bourdonnet is a very stern and harsh man, known for both his unwavering commitment to tradition and duty but also for his strict mannerisms and the high expectation he holds for his family members, particularly his three children. It is no secret that he and his elder brother are not on talking terms.

Grégoire married his first wife Juliette Vaillant at a young age, and through their union were born the two eldest of his children. Tragically, Juliette suffered a long illness and would eventually have her life claimed by it. Grégoire remarried a young daughter to a Mordentish noble family, Viviana Vaillant. Rumours spoke that the marriage was one of duty only, done only in a bid to secure the future of the Vaillant family until Grégoire's own children came of age. The couple were blessed with another child, the youngest son Alexandre.

The youngest of the three sons of the duke, Eugene Vaillant, born with seemingly no prospects of inheritance unlike his older brother Antoine, was similarly surrounded with rumours of problematic behavior. He was suspected, but never proven, of being involved in nefarious affairs that would no doubt scandalize the family with ties and connections to the criminal underworld. Perhaps at the behest of his father, perhaps as punishment for an unforgivable transgression against the family, or perhaps for another reason entirely, Eugene has dedicated his life in service to Ezra. He is a widower with two children.

The eldest of Grégoire Vaillant’s three children, Fleury Vaillant seemingly desires to follow in the footsteps of his father, seeking a military commission and is known for his enjoyment of hunting and other martial endeavours. However, unsubstantiated rumours and gossip speak that he suffers the same fatal flaw of his uncle the Baron de Duchbourg, a near unstoppable hedonistic appetite with unfounded rumours of Fleury enjoying the company of men. These rumours are suppressed as libelous by the Vaillants.

There is not much known about Grégoire's only daughter, Sévérine Vaillant. A student at the university studying thanatology, she is known to avoid the political spotlight and keeps herself mostly to her studies. Some comment that she is driven and studious; others whisper that she is cold and aloof. It is known that Grégoire seeks to wed his daughter to an eligible bachelor.

Her younger brother, Alexandre Vaillant, is well known in social circles as an activist and outspoken supporter for the rights of commoners. Alexandre’s tenure at the Universite de Port-A-Lucine was brief, despite being afforded the best tuition that money could buy.  Having dropped out from his academical studies, the youngest of Grégoire’s sons now spends his days in peaceful protest, organising charity drives and parties to benefit the poor and unprivileged in Dementlieuse society, and, much to his father’s disapproval, speaking out against the Council of Brilliance’s latest policies.

House de Tabouillot

Brique par Brique, La Tête Taute
Brick by Brick, Heads Held High

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Descended from those who would aid Leon centuries ago, the head of the household, a man named Ghislain de Tabouillot, was granted the Barony of Sarbagne after the fall of the empire, located near Port-a-Lucine on the coast. Investing in the town’s verdant vineyards as well as the prolific business of architecture, they were able to slowly amass wealth over the years. Their workhouses were known for being tougher than most with the builders paid far too little with how dangerous the job was. While the nobles themselves were always trained in architecture, seeing it as a form of art, as the generations passed they began training assistants to do the actual work for them while they turned their eyes on the cutthroat world of politics.

The de Tabouillot family began truly making a name for itself when it helped rebuild what was destroyed in the rebellion in 707 BC in Port-a-Lucine. Losing half the family in the rebellion itself, they would be slow to recover yet stood steadfast in keeping a division between the nobility and lower class. Due to their contributions in rebuilding what was destroyed in the rebellion, aiding in the quelling of the peasant mobs, the large amount of wealth they’ve accumulated over the years, and the political connections they’ve forged, the head of the household was able to persuade the Council of Brilliance to elevate his title from a Barony to a Viscountcy.

Around 748 BC there was large scandal that spread when Léopold de Tabouillot, son of Lucrèce de Tabouillot, was staying in Port-a-Lucine to court his betrothed, the daughter of another Vicomte. Instead of spending his time with the upper echelons, or even the woman he was to be wed to, he was instead in the company of a beautiful, but poor, peasant woman. The scandals were forcefully put to rest after Léopold was separated from the peasant and immediately married before being sent back home with his new bride. The peasant woman in question remained nameless and faded back into obscurity among the port’s slums. The family has always put the reputation and purity of the bloodline first, never once claiming a bastard child nor allowing a single member to marry someone of lower status. They believed that nobles were superior in every way and that the peasantry only had one purpose: to serve.

This was put to the test in 770 BC when a second revolution occurred and later on during the civil war. Originally siding with Marius de Mortigny, the head of the family, Gérald de Tabouillot had a fatal accident towards the end of the war, leaving his younger brother Lucrèce next in line for Vicomte since Gérald’s only son was lost at sea. Surprisingly, Lucrèce de Tabouillot switched sides to back the Council of Brilliance and betrayed his once allies in exchange for amnesty. Supplying them with information as well as having all five of his sons fight for them, the family was not held accountable after the war’s end however the Vicomte lost all of his sons to the war, leaving only himself, his wife, and his sickly daughter, Esther de Tabouillot, remaining of the prestigious family.

The Vicomtess, Dolorès de Tabouillot, having passed away in 773 BC, followed by her daughter Esther, quietly succumbing to illness in 778 BC, it seems this ancient house will soon be extinct. Small hope rests upon the shoulders of Éléonore de Ambroiseux-Tabouillot, the Vicomte's newest bride, who may yet conceive a son and see the permanent union of the old lineage of de Tabouillot and the upstart Ambroiseux family.

House d'Espérance
(Defunct)

"Foi, Devoir, Honneur, Valeur, Fidélité."
"Faith, duty, honor, valor, loyalty."

______________________________________________________________________________________________

A cadet branch of House de la Rochenoire, House d'Espérance dates its founding to the end of the Covenant rebellion in 775 and the restoration of the Council of Brilliance. For his role as Commandant of the Jeune Compagnie forces that held the Duc d'Ameranthe's ancestral fortress, Jacinth de la Rochenoire was titled Baron de Mouisset, relinquishing his position as a Warden of Ste. Mere des Larmes. His Ouvrier-born wife Sylvie de la Rochenoire née Coulette (former Templar, Compagnon of the Jeune Compagnie, and war-hero in her own right) was as such ennobled as Baroness de Mouisset. The house's origins from within the faith are proudly displayed in their heraldry; the belladonna flower that serves as their charge was seen in bloom when the Jeune Compagnie marched for Ameranthe, and regarded by some within the company as an auspicious omen of Ezra's favor.

A strip of land not far from the northern Musarde, Mouisset is little more than a small village and manor house. Most of the inhabitants are now refugees in the west, and its fields and homes suffer from three years of neglect. Those few souls who remain have long languished under the fear of Falkovnian aggression.

The young house would not survive long. Implicated in a plot to kidnap the Lady-Governor, the Baron de Mouisset would vanish from Gendarmerie custody, resurfacing to live a quiet life outside of politics and aristocracy with his wife in Mordent. Mouisset would then pass into the hands of Sieur Creighton Norville for valor at the Battle of Plessis Forest,

House Desrosiers

"Crooked logs make straight fires."

House Desrosiers maintains its proud roots stretch back to being one of the ancient stalwart protectors of Dementlieu in archaic times and claims to have been one of the first supporters of Léon's unification. The House have firmly supported the Council of Brilliance ever since over generations.

The family hold land near the Musarde River, by the Falkovian border. In times of peace, the rich soil of the Musarde is worked and food grown as well as plentiful flowers for gardens of various other estates around Dementlieu. They are mostly known for their spectacular breeds of roses, likely from which the family's name comes from. They have in the past sponsored craftsmen and scientists at the University, especially in the field of firearms.

During the revolution of 770 BC the Marquis' eldest son and his wife had the misfortune to be among the people executed in the wake of the revolution, having found themselves in Port-a-Lucine on business. Two sons and a daughter were left behind to be raised by the grandparents. These were not the only losses the family has suffered recently, with other extended members of the family also having met with an ill fate either by revolutionaries, war or bad luck. Likewise, during the years of uncertainty and wars the family's lands have also suffered with the onslaught of the Falkovians and rumours of the crops being poor this year (775). Some claim that the House finds itself in financial difficulty while others think such talk is nonsense, given all the land the Desrosiers own. Those who know the Marquis well are aware of him never placing all eggs his in one basket but the recent loss of his wife may have had an impact on his judgment and how he handles his affairs.

The family is headed by the ageing Marquis de Valey, Valerian Desrosiers. Both the grandsons, Emile (the heir) and Emeric, are focusing on the family's lands and do not favour the scene in the capitol city. There are rumours surrounding the granddaughter Eglantine that she is of ill health. Her appearance in Port-a-Lucine might be something of a curiosity as she has never been seen in the city prior, instead rumoured to having spent an extended time abroad. She is now suddenly taking up focused studies in Abjuration at the Faculty of Arcane Studies at the University.

House des Ayvelles

Vert oak tree eradicated sable in full, per chevron argent

La force d'un chêne

Brief History:
Quote
If one were to read the chronicles detailing the history of des Ayvelles, they quickly would find themselves bored to death, as the pages would be filled with the predictable descriptions of arranged marriages, uninspiring battles and an occasional son or daughter sent into the priesthood.
Although house des Ayvelles is one of the older Dementlieuse noble families, few marks were left on the Republic’s history by its members … until the appearance of Donatien des Ayvelles, the current head of the family.

Contemporary History:
Quote
Described in his youth as an “Invidian heart”, Donatien exhibited not only a great skill with the blade, but also a keen intellect, allowing the young man to quickly climb the ranks of Dementlieuse military. At the age of twenty five, Donatien received the title of chevalier due to his bravery on the battlefield during a particularly nasty skirmish with Falkovnians near the Jewel Box Lakes.

While Donatien’s late father arranged a promising match for his only son before his death, the youth chose differently. The chevalier caused a considerable scandal by marrying Amelia Guinigi, a Borcan noble seeking shelter in Demenltieu after the murder of her entire family. The entire affair resulted in a duel between Donatien and the brother of his ex-fiancée.  Although Donatien won the duel, his opponent perished, tarnishing not only the knight's repuration, but also the good name of the house des Ayvelles.

Yet the young couple seemed not to mind that, relishing in their love for each other. The family estate, located on the picturesque shores of Lake Sebastian, was a perfect place for the two of them to enjoy the early months of their marriage, and to nobody's surprise, Amelia soon became pregnant. The few friends who still kept in touch with the pair often described her as “glowing with joy”, thankful for the chance to start her life anew.

Alas, this happiness was not meant to last. Amelia died, bringing into the world a small miracle - two healthy sons and a daughter. Following the loss of his beloved wife, Donatien completely cut himself from the society, focusing solely on raising his children.

Current Affairs:
Quote
The triplets were a curiosity to many, with two boys, Balthazar and Cyprien, quickly proving themselves to be just as talented as their father, albeit in different fields. Balthazar, the younger brother, is currently following Donatien's footsteps, having recently made a name for himself during the siege of Ameranthe. Cyprien, on the other hand, went against the family expectations, deciding to study medicine at the University of Port-à-Lucine.

Not much was known about the family’s youngest child, Adelina, until recently. Just a few days before her engagement party, Adelina’s room was discovered in disarray with the girl nowhere to be found. The search around the estate and surrounding lakes yielded no results, sending her relatives into a panicked frenzy. It is widely believed that Adelina fell victim to the mysterious kidnapper, responsible for the string of disappearances in the farmsteads and villages located around the Jewel Box Lakes, but her family did not lose hope for a happy reunion.

Adelina's eventual return was overshadowed by the scandalous killing of the Baron de Sebastian by Felix Touré of the Quartier Watch.

House Artois

"Par Droit et Merite"
By Right and Merit

“Whether we fall by ambition, blood, or lust, Like diamonds, we are cut with our own dust.” -Act 5, Scene 5, The Duchess of Malifi

The household of Artois stakes its claim in the Marquisat de Damas, where old blood sits upon older money, like a weary dragon does it's horde. The Marquis de Damas Guy-Jean Artois claims an accomplished military career in service to the Serene Republique; when it came time for the revolution, Guy-Jean took to the support of the people, and thus the new Council that emerged after the bloody civil wars. Before that, the family's campaigns during the Falkovian incursions filled their halls with relics of duty, though they saw few additions these days to ease the Household's waning warrior's spirit.

House Artois was found estranged from Port-a-Lucine during the Covenant occupation by the Maitriser. The family left only their wine behind as they returned to two day ride to Chateaux de Damas where they tended to their business quietly. The patriarch himself, once emboldened by the illusion of immortality young men often bare, now bares the weight of age. His hair has begun to lose the shine of youth, and his spirit grows weary of vigour. Caution suits him nicely though, and has served to keep the household stable under his reign. In his age came wisdom, and a quiet respect for earnest work and a good glass of wine over a pistol.

With the Chaetuex de Damas overlooking scenic vineyards on terroir specially cultivated over generations, the Artois name more often than not comes hand in hand with talk of wine. Specializing in late harvest grapes that compliment the benefits of the unique terroir of the region, Artois wine is a regular suspect found on tasting boards for sampling in the fall seasons. The oversight of the vineyards, workers, and accounts fall to Madame la Marquise Evangeline Artois, whose brilliance in administration and tightly drawn purse-strings are a credit to the business's success.

This success is wielded ever so carefully, in the form of frequent parties and exclusive gatherings to sample wine fresh from virgin kegs. Not a month passes that the Chateaux de Damas goes without aristocratic parties and revelry. The Madame la Marquise had come to learn that a successful party would mean a successful account, and so she taught her daughters how to wield aesthetic and indulgence like the sons learned how to aim pistols.

The enduring stability of the Artois line is afforded in part to the family's conservative nature to observe and act only in absolute, but also from the powerful union of the Madame et Siegur de la Damas. Some murmurs muse as to if the youth of the next generation will be capable of carrying on in the same temperance and honor as their seniors. Four children are left to carry on the blood of the family; the eldest boy, Killian an earnest sort who shows promise in following in his fathers footsteps- though his palm has never known the recoil of a pistol. The second child, Angelica is a sharp whit and brilliant botanist who blames her lack of husband on her time spent aiding the Madame la Marquise with the vineyard's affairs. Then there was Jean-Luc, who knew his wine fluently (perhaps a little too fluently for some) and could make pleasant with anyone he spoke with. Finally, there was Claire; though little could be said about the girl, as she had spent the majority of her life bed-ridden in sickness (poor thing) and this had made her quite elusive to any of the Artois events.

House Courteney

We Rise Together

House Courteney, presently headed by the aging Vicomte d’Orleon, Monsieur Jacques Courtenay is an older house of the Serene Republique, and a respected one.

The Courteney family is slowly fading from grace, though once was a name with significantly more weight to it. The family’s main asset is possession of extensive land and a steady grain trade - Something becoming ever more vital in recent times. However their estate is a long way from the safety of Port-a-Lucine, located in northeastern Dementliuse, near the Musarde. While in more historic times the family was known for a thriving baking industry supplying many of the capitals finest restraunts in more recent times they have contented themselves simply to selling the grain on to those more full of energy.

The Vicomte himself is a devout, if now aged man, coming into his 50th year, still mourning his dearly departed wife, gone these last 22 years who perished in childbirth. They are well enough to afford a reasonable number of servants and men at arms, however like the family itself many of these are aging, worn white haired servants and grizzled tired men at arms standing at posts occupied for too many years.

Recent events have reduced their family tree to a family bush and there are now only three known survivours, the Vicomte, and his twin daughters, Esme & Elsie Courtenay. The orginal heir to the title and the former Victomte d'Orleon, and his entire family were all presume killed during the revoultion, lost in the violence and simply never seen again, although occasionally there have been pretenders claiming to have escaped the violence and been in hiding ever since. None however, have yet been found to be geninue.

The Vicomte's younger brother, a much beloved man admist the peasentry and a firm supporter of the provisional government was killed unexpectedly at the battle of Amaranthe. A renowned lover of men, he left behind no wife nor heirs to continue the family.

Elsie, the older twin, is now poised to inherit the family title on her passing. However as a woman she will be unable to pass the title on to her future husband or children and on her death the title will be lost and likely reclaimed by the Council of Brilliance to be assigned to a newer family.

Esme and Elise came to Port-a-Lucine in the year 776 - However their arrival was dogged by a series of brutal and bloody murders, most characterised by the victims blood being drained. Due to their recent arrival, the pair rapidly came under suspicion from the Gendarmie, and had a high profile clash with House de Rosacier, Elise besting the Baronesse in a duel.

The scandal soon came to a head however, with the twins being placed on trial before none other than Councillor d'Honaire himself. In a lengthy trial, refered to in the presses as 'The Trial of the Century' then Caporal Jacques Boucher was successful in convicting Esme Courteney of the killings, whereupon she was sentenced to twenty years hard labour.

Heartbroken and embittered by her sisters sentence, Elise left the capital to return to the family lands poised to inherit her sickly father's title, while Esme boarded a prison ship. However shortly after the ship left the docks Esme vanished - The Gendarmie have never satisfactorially established if she drowned or somehow swam to shore.

House Marceaux
"Le cœur voit plus loin que l'esprit."
"The heart sees further than the mind."

The origins of House Marceaux has its roots in the nearby domain of Richemulot, initially founded by Sebastien Marceaux. Through loyal and faithful service on the battlefield, he was raised to the status of petty nobility, granting him his name and the right to bear heraldry as a noble House in Pont-a-Museau.

In Dementlieu, the story is much the same for how the House came to be. House Marceaux is a fresh addition to the peerage, established in 771 B.C., the young Juste Marceaux, son of Sebastien was knighted by Helene duSuis, and granted a viscountcy after a successful campaign waged against the Valachani invaders in Mordent. Not long after his return his House expanded with a host of retainers, and he had also come into ownership of the Company of the Fox, solidifying his House's privatized military in the process.

It is as of current that the Household provides a smaller amount of services to the public, ranging from insight into the arcane sciences, to medicines and even security detail. He has recently expressed interest in supporting the growth of more fine arts within the city of Port-à-Lucine, openly backing the Theatre de la Cathedrale on multiple occasions. In the realm of politics, the young lord also seemed rather interested in further distancing Dementlieuse dependence on Falkovnian trade.

Aside from all that is on the surface, a controversy has and still follows Juste wherever he goes, of both good and bad nature. He is viewed by some as an interloper, a foreigner, but yet, his deeds on behalf of the République cannot be refuted. Regardless of this, he carries himself with pride and confidence while in public, head ever held high.

In a more recent light, it seems that the Viscount has taken a wife of a surprising origin. A lithe and small Barovian woman by the name of Magda, now inhereted the Marceaux name, seems to have won him over. Among the many marriages that occur out of convenience, or for wealth and power -- this does not seem to be. In most perhaps it has stirred disapproval, and in others, warming their hearts to see such a union occur. Whatever it might mean for one of the more prominent Houses in Dementlieu, remains to be seen...

It was not long before the horrors of war seemed to catch up with House Marceaux. Following a great error and tragedy that occurred at the estate of the Duchesse de Beauvais, the Viscount of Roissy found himself in a very precarious political situation. As time passed, he grew silent, and to most -- his despair seemed apparent. However, at the height of the war with the Covenant, the Viscount turned for the unexpected. He would betray the Council of Brilliance in the end, cutting off their reinforcements from the Palais, which were attempting to crush a rebellion in league with the Covenant armies. It is said that he rode through the streets on horseback to quell the ensuing chaos, risking his life in the face of confused gendarmes and Covenant soldiers alike. He was successful, and not long after most of the fighting was quelled, disappeared, likely to never be heard from again.

And yet, our story does not end here. In the final days of 775, the spitting image of the previous Viscount of Roissy Juste Marceaux emerged from the woodwork in the form of a younger, bastard son issued of the union of Sebastien Marceaux and a Dementlieuse lover. After securing his papers of legitimization by service to the Council of Brilliance, Severin earned the right to bear his father's name, and by late January 776, he was awarded the Viscounty of Roissy thanks to the support he managed to secure on short notice, and his reportedly impeccable character. His Coat of Arms was amended to carry the baton sinistre, which every bastard must bear, and the addition of three crowns. In 777, the son of Severin and Claire Marceaux was born, Sebastien, named after Severin's father.

During the rising tension surrounding the Silent Fields Expedition, in 778, The Viscount of Roissy and his wife joined the campaign along with their retinue. The Viscount was awarded two medals and was made a Knight of the Order of Serene Abundance, for his work on the battlefield and, in particular, his role in the rescue of Sieur Regnier's wife, the Dame Chaboteaux.

House de Rosacier

Sable, a ring of thorns encircling a rose, argent.

"Efforcez-vous toujours d'avancer!"
"Strive ever forward!"

Quote
House de Rosacier was formed when the holding of Fincelles was raised to a Barony in January 776. It currently consists of one member, the Baroness de Fincelles, Francette de Rosacier. Born into nobility under House de la Rochenoire, she went on to earn the title of "Maîtresse" for her contributions to culture in Port-a-Lucine and her service as a member of the Jeune Compagnie at Ameranthe. Later, House Jalabert saw fit to petition the Council of Brilliance to grant her the title of "Seigneuresse de Fincelles" in recognition of her management of their Théâtre de la Cathédrale. Finally, she was granted the title of "Baroness" in recognition of, or some might say in spite of, her charitable works in the city of Port-a-Lucine and her continued development of Fincelles.

House d'Aubry
Cadet branch of house d'Évreux

"Force. Justice. Pays."
"Might. Justice. Country."

House d’Aubry was created in 746 when Jacques d’Aubry, cousin to Aristide d’Évreux, helped the Duc de Beauvais with a peasant insurrection. Captain of the Gendarmerie in Chateaunoir at the time, he was rewarded with land and the title of Baron de Felcourt. Since that time, the Baron has strengthened his influence over the Gendarmerie and any military company around Chateaunoir, putting them at the service of his cousin whenever he needed to. Known to be a man with a keen military mind, he rules his lands and those under him with an iron fist, with no tolerance for breaks in protocol and breaking of the law.

The Baron de Felcourt had always had great plans for his own family, but without much success. While his tenure in the Gendamerie in Chateaunoir had brought him much fame and respect, it hadn’t done much to help elevate his family, who always had been in the shadow of  d'Evreux. In the hopes of becoming a more active part of the multiple wars against the Falkovnians, the Baron sent his second son, Gabriel, to travel in Lamordia, Mordent and Richemulot to study different war tactics and their military advancements. It was rumored that after many years away, he was about to come back home, and head to Port-a-Lucine to further his father's goals.

HOUSE BELLEROSE
[OOC Crest was designed by Dusk]

"So Beautiful, so dangerous.
Si belle, si dangereux."
-Old family motto, still fairly used.

"The rose has not whithered yet.
la rose n'est pas encore allée"
-New family motto, used in recent times.

House Bellerose of Cheateu Rouge is a bygone family from another time, one with a long and venerated history, the bloodline almost lost during the recent revolution. Since then the entirety of the families estate, businesses and lands have been lost along with its wealth.

The family initially worked within the silk trades, producing fine, eloquent and exquisite finery for the higher classes of Port-a-lucine, owning a small import trade of silks being brought in by ship and made into the clothing which earned the family a reputation, besides this they owned several plots of land, with various investments within the industries of both Port-a-lucine and Chateaufaux, earning  the families wealth.

House Bellerose originated within Port-a-lucine existing as one of the political and influential houses of Dementlieu, Marquis Vincent louis de Bellerose who was the patriarchal head of the family and father to Charles, Lucille and Sophie headed the family, till his untimely demise at the hands of revolutionaries.

Before the revolution, Gerard de Bellerose, brother of Vincent, captain of the "Wind Rose", was headed torwards a trading expedition in Sri-Raji, only to never return and disappear under myterious circumstances. His wife Chantal de Bellerose died of sickness and depression after loss of his husband at the age of fifty.

When the revolution came the family supported the council of Brillance openly, favouring the nobility and overlooking the plight of the poor. The house is survived by Charles de Bellerose and Lucille Bellerose for a time.

The fate of Charles and Lucille was never recorded, many assume they died during the civil war along with their father.

in 769 B.C. a young Dementlieuse noblewoman by the name Sophie de Bellerose was seen leaving the Palais Dirigeant apparently with a newly appointed title bestowed by the Council of Brilliance; having been granted the Baronne of Magnoac and the estates and lands tied to it, including the village of Magnoac. Sophie de Bellerose disappeared through the years never to be seen again.

A very old saying among the family is "Those who dare not grasp the thorns, should not desire the rose” which speaks volumes of those who once used them.

In recent years, after the house was nothing but forgotten, an unexpected scion of the family claiming to be the son of Gerard de Bellerose, return from a long journey of self imposed exile, and trading expeditions at sea with House Passeleau as a junior officer, after five years of absence in the Port scenery, Lucien de Bellerose, is the defacto known last son of House Bellerose, the young noble, with nothing but his name and the little wealth he gathered from his travels, now face a new Republique that much have changed during the years, with new players and events unfolding in the playground that is the Dementiluese Game.

In the years 776, Lucien de Bellerose, for his service in the battle of Plassis Forest and merits, was kinghted Chevalier de Magnoac, and it was granted the coastal Baronne de Magnoac along with the estate and the village, first held by Sophie de Bellerose, now the young chevalier seek to rebuild the costal village of Magnoac, to restore it to its former glory

In 777, the Council of Brilliance, due to the lack of a spouse promised to the Council to continue the lineage, stripped Sieur  Lucien de Bellerose of his estate and fief, but still retained the titile of Chevalier and his noble status.

House de Phélypeaux
"De nos cendres nous ressuscitons!"
"From our ashes we rise!"

The origins of House de Phélypeaux can be found in Mars, 776 B.C., when Alix Sinclair Martineau, the Dame d'Estellier was issued letters patent by the Council of Brilliance in what was a spectacle to leave tongues wagging for years to come, seeing her made Dame Alix Sinclair de Phélypeaux, Baronesse d'Estellier. A woman born in the Southern city of Chateaunoir, the newly ennobled Baronesse d'Estellier's rise in politics was pock-marked with scandal and controversy. Rivals were found often and frequent in the aristocracy, marking back to an abrupt dismissal from the Gendarmerie Nationale de Dementlieu just prior to the Siege of Ameranthe, and living on until the present day. Yet, for all of the scandals, misdeeds, and rivals which follow in the wake of House de Phélypeaux's rise to power, so too number of the deeds of its founder in the annuls of history.

Having served in the Gendarmerie Nationale de Dementlieu until the rank of Sergeant, it was revealed that the Baronesse d'Estellier when she was just a private citizen was an agent for then-ousted and outlawed Council of Brilliance, serving to overthrow the Provisional Government established by the Covenant rebellion during the Dementlieuse Civil War. Accounts from the time see her placed marching the Council of Brilliance into the Palais Dirigeant under the security of private soldiers and foreign mercenaries alike bearing her corporate banner. For her deeds in restoring the rule of Lady-Governor Hélène DuSuis, she was rewarded with the honorific title of Dame, the Seigneurie d'Estellier, and the right to bare the title, "Dame d'Estellier."

House de Phélypeaux is known to possess a shipping company by the name of, "Martineau Maritime Acquisitions & Shipping Concern," and from the wealth generated by the Baronesse d'Estellier's trade pursuits, she saw the Seigneurie d'Estellier risen from what it was, little more than vast marshland with a small fishing village, destroyed and burned out by Falkovnian invaders during the Siege of Ameranthe. The makings of a river port, and a border fortress were put in motion, and employment for the masses was provided through the reconstruction of Estellier and through the repairing and extending of the Avenue du Progrés. Sometime after the restoration of the Council of Brilliance, the Baronesse d'Estellier formed a private military contractor under the name of, "La Compagnie du Phénix," which was lead by herself personally on two major foreign campaigns in Navorhan, Invidia, and Silbervas, Falkovnia. The result of the lattermost seeing the heir to the Falkovnian throne, Prince Mircea Drakov, captured and brought into the République's hands in fetters.

Now, in the modern day of the Sereine République de Dementlieu, rumours circulate slowly of the absorption of La Compagnie du Phénix into the Household retinue, providing war-tested soldiers upon Fortress Estellier's walls. Where the cup and ball game of corporate flags and livery once reigned supreme, now the heraldry of a Noble's dynasty hangs proudly and solely. The sudden cannibalization of the Compagnie's Estellier Garde leaves many to speculate that this was always the end destination of the Compagnie, plotted long ago by the nascent Baronesse upon its founding. Where once, iconography of an archaic, golden Phoenix stood proudly upon the banners of Fortress Estellier's rising walls, now rests the crest of House de Phélypeaux, a defiant white marble Phoenix bearing its claws centermost upon the facing, wings buffeting as it prepares to strike its foe. Pale, deep blue, and wine-red heraldry marks the history of the Household's maritime and private military past, checkering the heater shield crest. Finally, a stylized marbled sun is depicted rising above the head of the Phoenix, lifting ever-higher to meet the fleur-de-lis resting upon the top. Where once well-equipped mercenaries patrolled roads under contract to Seigneurial authority, loyal and noble soldiers of House de Phélypeaux now under new Baronial authority patrol them, the markings of the Estellier Garde removed and replaced with the family crest of House de Phélypeaux. Times are quickly changing as soldiers of fortune are welcomed to homes and land, and stare ever outward across the Musarde from Fortress Estellier's walls as Household Soldiers, awaiting the day the Falkovnian invaders would return to attempt to defile the land once more.

Despite the immense bustle and business of her sprawling enterprises, the nascent Baronesse d'Estellier remains seated within the République's capital of Port-à-Lucine, preparing to face the challenges of adjusting to her new title and station, the many trials of a life within the aristocracy's peerage awaiting her.

House Corbeau
"Nos griffes sont acérées"
"Our claws are sharp, our beaks are sharper."

Considered a rather unremarkable family and a footnote of history, House Corbeau has been on the edge of noble society for over five decades, beginning from the Patriarch, Bertran de Corbeau, a steward for a local lord in the southern reaches of Dementlieu who proved to be an excellent cook thanks to his mothers original recipes. Throughout their notably minor history, House Corbeau have served as retainers to other more powerful families, particularly in wartime. Though they never rose above minor nobility, House Corbeau was once the shining jewel of the culinary industry, capable of managing multiple restaurant chains with skill and efficiency. The family found themselves with endless opportunity and their business continued to flourish.

In Recent years, the once proud and floruishing food industries of House Corbeau have suffered from a string of closures of the business. Rumors speculate the reason to be food poisoning, though nothing has been confirmed. The family retreated from their restaurants and have only recently returned, eager to bring back their once shining dining empire. Thanks to the efforts of the families younger siblings, House Corbeau has enjoyed a degree of steadied success after it's famed restaurant 'L'Eclipse' first opened it's doors. The head of House Corbeau, Baron Silvaine de Corbeau died of illness, leaving his eldest son Lambert Corbeau in charge of the family holdings.

Officially relocated to Chateaufaux by the owner and proprietor, Maitre Basile Corbeau, The business has instead shifted from outside the cities walls, operating several small restaurants alongside the success of L'Eclipse. Rumors abound this move was perpetuated by the Maitre after his younger brother Marco Corbeau was convicted of crimes against the state, something of which the Maitre has been at pains to sweep under the rug. Not soon after, rumors about the youngest of the Corbeau Family, Nadia Corbeau renouncing her nobility to live as a commoner sending heads spinning. In recent years the Family has recieved a degree of praise for their slowly building culinary empire, though concerns remain as to who will lead the house after talk of entail from the council.

House Anciaux

"De la ruine, la prospérité"

From Ruin, Prosperity.

House Anciaux was the most controversial house at the time of its founding. Headed by the newly enobled Michelle Anciaux, and her wife, Lily Anciaux nee Ryan, the married, childless couple petitioned the Council for nobility, not on the basis of their family, or their legacy, but upon the strength of their commitment to the republic, it's people and most importantly their determination and loyalty to the Dementliuse Barony of Beauvieres, formerly the lands of the by this point defunct House Laurier and Michelle's home having been born their a peasent farmgirl alongside a Caliban sister.

The couple had a reputation for sharp tongues and defiance, which earned them a sharp rebuke from the Lady Governor, Helena de Suis, a rebuke that seemed all too quickly forgotten when the title was granteed not a month later. The family has a reputation for the supplying of Firearms, most notably the 'Anciaux Lucky No 7', a Dementliuse made musket with the potential to rival lamordian imports and the Barony itself contains a trio of expansive farms, from which some of the eastern part of the republique draws its food shipments.

Their words, 'From Ruin, Prosperity', were first seen carved into the reforged Falkovian Talon blade Michelle returned from captivity with, sold at auction to raise much of the money that inspired the restortation and stand in testiment to the families story, rising from nothing to become something.

While Lily Anciaux was an outlander who earned her citizenship in the republique through her service to the arts, rising to become manager of the Theatre de la Cathedral for the early part of of 776, but having no living relatives, a question mark hangs over Michelle's side of the family who were thought to have been killed during a Falkovian raid on Beauvieres many years ago, in which Michelle herself was captured. Perhaps in time, other surviours will return from Falkovia, or reveal themselves from the peasentry.

Michelle and her wife however, abruptly vanished from the capital on the 20/6/76 the same day they letters patent were granted. They offered little explination, and seem determined to never again leave Beauvieres or correspond with those they left behind in Port-A-Lucine.

House Sazeray

"La puissance est dérivée de la force."
"Might is derived from strength."

House Sazeray was founded in the year 723 B.C., after a prominent industrialist in Chateaufaux named Xavier de Sazeray was awarded letters patent for “improving and developing commerce within Chateaufaux” by Lord-Governor Chambon and his Council of Brilliance. No land came with the title, and it is all but understood that the title was bequeathed to Xavier because of his willingness to assist with the Dementlieuse government’s rather acute financial troubles at the time. It would be one of many stated reasons for Lord-Governor Chambon’s removal from power five years later.

Of course, Xavier de Sazeray was already of advanced age and he would not be able to enjoy his newfound status for long. He would expire from natural causes and his title would pass along to his eldest son, Bertrand de Sazeray. He would prove to be an unremarkable administrator of his father’s meagre estate until 740 BC, when madness saw to overwhelming Chateaufaux.

The young Baron offered full-throated support of Mayor Henri Melano and Captain Domini Tisiphanes as they created the Black Watch and saw to enforcement of all manner of draconian laws and edicts, and arrested dissenters on the absolute thinnest of legal pretexts. He was dealing with labor troubles at the time, and he knew he could count on the Black Watch to ensure order was kept in his workhouses. When Mayor Melano and Captain Tisiphanes were replaced by new, saner leadership, Bertrand de Sazeray’s past allegiances were not forgotten and he was largely alienated by his noble peers. Scorned and rebuked, their influence in Chateaufaux largely abrogated.

Thirty-six years have passed since then, and the Baron is now in his twilight years. In spite of this, rumor has it that his mind is now as sharp as ever. Rare is it that he leaves his family’s estate positioned along Boulevard Jardine, however, save to occasionally oversee the workhouses his family owns. Instead, his son, Bertrand II, is the one most frequently seen around town and serves as the face of Sazeray Carriage Company, alongside his socialite daughter Zoëlle. Rumor has it that the latter has been sent to Port-a-Lucine, to find a proper suitor who will serve as a match… and yet, she would not make it to her intended destination.

House Veilleux
Derived from the Old French "veille", meaning 'watch', or 'guard.'

"Ayez du courage, et soyez gentils."
"Have courage, and be kind."

True to the last name they have long since adapted, the Veilleux family have more than earned their place amongst the gentry and nobility of Dementlieu through their dutiful service. While they may be one of many families whose reputation has been cultivated through excellent military prowess, there is one thing that sets them apart; their unwavering resolution to focus their efforts on protecting the good, the poor, and the innocent. This is a kind-hearted house, and it is known that a Veilleux guard is amongst the most loyal one can acquire...so long as one shows a good-natured hand. To reveal a more nefarious disposition is to sentence ones self to abandonment, and to find an immediate enemy in the Veilleux family. Despite their loyalty, their diligence, and their knack for spawning well-trained knights, this house has remained relatively minor. Many speculate that the Veilleux's are simply happy to remain as dressed-up guard dogs, while others theorize it is due to their "unfortunate" habit of marrying down rather than up.

It was not until around 23 years ago that a member of the Veilleux family elevated to a station beyond that of a knight. Sieur Valentin Veilleux was named Baronet in congratulations of his own merits, causing a great celebration amongst the many members of the family. Valentin has remained a modest man however, never flaunting or paying too much mind to this shift in status. His duty to his family and his work remained his priority.

The Siege of Amaranthe sparked the fuel for the family's only prominent scandal. Raised on the stories of heroes authored by her mother Rosaline, Valérie- the only daughter of Valentin- grew up wanting nothing more than to become just that- a hero her mother could be proud of. The young woman snuck off to aid in the effort, only to be injured, then promptly detained by soldiers who recognized her. Word was sent back to the Veilleux family that the young Veilleux had been killed in battle, rather than having been merely injured. By the time that another report was sent to rectify the mistake, however, it was too late; the grief-stricken Rosaline, who had locked herself away within her room to mourn, was found dead with a dagger at her side, and a slit wrist. The woman and her daughter had a bond closer than any other, and she simply could not bare the heartbreak of having lost her beloved daughter and best friend.

After having been returned to her home, Valérie remained under house arrest for more than a year, rarely making appearances outside of the family home. The hopeful, happy youth slowly decayed, becoming a shell of her former self. Her laughter no longer filled the halls of their home, and any formal training she had for swordsmanship seemed to cease. Even those closest to Valérie have not seen her smile since.

With the house arrest now lifted, one can only wonder...what will she do now?
