I like the idea of calling it "Mythral", but it doesn't matter too much what it's named. The idea is that there be something harder to get and more powerful than steel, but less tedious and deadly to get and less powerful than adamantine. The material could be discovered in the depths of the new rift near Krofburg, perhaps? Amidst some seriously troublesome creatures but not quite as deadly as the fiends of Perfidus, and be far more straightforward in its harvesting.

Weapons crafted from this material = same damage bonus as steel, +1 attack. (no further bonuses like adamantine's +2 vs construct), 60% weight (instead of 80%)

Armor and shields crafted from this material = 60% weight (like thick chitin), skill penalties reduced by 1 due to armor being thinner and more easily jointed than chitin (this can be done by granting +1 to parry, hide, ms, set trap, pp, et cetera, so that a chain shirt has an effective skill penalty of -1 instead of -2, tower shield -9 instead of -10 )

Adamantine for casuals doesn't need to be a thing. For the longest time, steel was king and will always be at least usable because steel is literally a trip down a mine and buying some coal in exchange for some really nice gear. If you make a better version of that that isn't as annoying to get as admantine then you have basically another tier of useless armor to plough through ontop of copper, bronze, and iron.

Trust me, I used to play the merchanting game and people snub iron arrows (and bronze/copper) all the time. You'll have people do that with steel because this new tier is better objectively and still easy to get to.

Mithril would be nice, but it'd really tread on leatherworking because it's supposed to be lighter variants of armor. So imagine a breastplate for +ac equivilent to make it full plate and still count as medium armor. A mithril chain shirt would be cool for a rogue, but it'd make leatherworking useless if you can easily get mithril.

Mithril if it were ever added could serve a similar purpose to adamantine being incredibly rare and hard to obtain, but work
for leather working or tailoring as a secondary material, so it doesn't step on the current things to much.

In tailoring some plain-looking clothing made of woven mithril threads for example would be a good thing to earn, similar to adamantine,
being very hard to make and very hard to find.

Mithril is planned but we have issues implementing it properly in the engine.

Mithril, though light, is still a metal, so you can't make a realistic cloth out of it.

That's some exciting news. And yeah very true. :)
