A reminder on naming rules and conventions.

Section 2: Character Creation

CHARACTER NAMING

- Please use correct English, not "JOHN DOE" or "JoHn DoE" but "John Doe". Also, don't use colours in names.

- Using famous names from fantasy settings or other genres is not allowed, i.e., calling yourself "Count Von Zarovich" or "Drizz't Du'Urden" is a no-no.

- Regarding punctuation marks: apostrophes and hyphens, along with foreign accent marks such as the tilde ("~") are allowed, but please use them in moderation.

- No nicknames like "Paschal the Enchanter". If you want a nickname, give it out in-character.

- Don't decorate your character's name with symbols or letters that are not part of his/her name, i.e. no "-~Nadja~-" etc.

- Don't give your character a nonsensical or silly name like "Apple" or "Shoe." The name must be reasonable and believable within the culture that your character is from.

Please bear these rules (particularly the last one) in mind as we go into the NCE!

Secondly, just because you were playing a character while DMs were online a day prior doesn't mean the names are acceptable and we're fine with them. We are often very busy with player requests or events, especially at the beginning of NCE. If a DM asks you to change your name, please comply. I'm not singling out a single person here, this excuse popped up several times yesterday from several people.

As a note, pun names are not expressly forbidden, but do make an effort to make the name less obvious. Use a real name for the pun if possible, and at the very least, disguise the name with phoenetics so it sounds like the word you're making a pun on without spelling it the same. Also, even if it's a pun, try to make it seem believable as a name.
