No really if we go with real comparison to languages Darkonese should be the primary source, and it should be also the most known language, instead of Balok (Latin being at the basis of both Romanian-Balok and French-High Mordentish). This is why we cannot go that way.

[EDIT] Odiare has as a primary language one based on Italian, yet, it has not any link to Balok, Darkonese, or High Mordentish, as it supposedly should have (if we made references to real languages).

Found an old thread about Souragne. I'm curious to as its history as well.  I had assumed that it was inspired by colonial Louisiana and such... but most history I can find seems very, very sparse. Is there any mention of Dementlieuse colonists settling there, at any point? Or is that assuming too much based off of the real life inspiration of a parrell between France and Louisiana?

Was it simply created by the Dark Powers from the Mists in its present state?

(I do find it odd, though I'm not arguing any ruling, that two domains in the game, use the same "represented real life words" to describe the same things... ie, "Masion" for "Mansion", in both HM and Sourangien. I know the writers of the setting tried as best as they could to give things flavor, and to make comprimises)

no connection at all. Souragne's darklord is from Greyhawk. Dementlieu's darklord, as with all darklords of domains where Mordentish is the main language, is from Mordent, and Mordent's origin is an unknown world. It's simply a case of similar cultures from different worlds being drawn into the demiplane.

Exactly as Traladarians from Mystara who have as a main language something coming anyway from Romanian!

No, I mean, I've stopped pondering too much about all this once I understood Darkonese (Latin) was not connected in any way in game, and setting-wise, with Balok or High Mordentish (Romanian and French) which are derived from it in terms of real life languages.

Furthermore we're using here a "Common" or "Trade" language which is not canon, and we're giving for granted, while it is quite important as a choice for the overall possibility to communicate at all.

I am okay, as we all should be, with a precise direction provided on this.

Greyhawk, I see! Okay, cool, that makes things clear to me now. Just a matter of coincidence then, as far as similarities go.
