*Smoke drifts from the Citadel. The guards in a panic. Bloodied, charred and wounded many stagger from the building. A triage center is set up to determine and provide aid to the wounded, some still smouldering, coughing and hacking as they exit the building. It will take time to determine what all occurred.*

Throughout one of the coldest days in of winter, after the events that came to pass at the Citadel, one word is on everyone's lips amongst the Paesanty and guards.

Rebels!

The word frequently accompanied by a tirade of curses, many in the paesantry wonder and speculate about the number of casualties, they are told anything between the tens and twenties, many injured, but the worry is there. They worry that even the impressive sight of the Citadel isn't enough to slow down and stop the Gundarakite dogs.

In the morning, wives and children crowd the Citadel gates, asking if their loved ones were part of the casualties...they are told a list would come in the next hours.

Lance Corporal  Nicolae Macek, alive and recently returned to the Garda from a long known absence, draws out endless hours of treating and tending to various injures in the sickbay of the Citadel. Lives have been saved, and lost for those with injures too gravely, shouts of pain echoeing from the room as he did his duty for his country. Limbs being amputated which ended most of the careers of some, while he tended vigerously to other more serious wounds

*As dusk settles across the land, nobles making their way back to their homes notice a lone carriage arriving in front of the Citadel. The driver steps down and helps two guards bringing down a cowled woman in grey and blue clothing. They make several stops on the stairs as she coughs violently, blood spiling on the white snow. With some effort she's put into the carriage, where she continues to cough violently. Garda and driver both frown at the coughing and make a warding sign against disease, one of them muttering as a noble rushed by:*

"Heard her mother had the same thing..."

*The carriage rushes off into the dwindling daylight.*

Watching from atop the Walls, the Lieutenant rubs a scar on his neck, bemused.

What curse could have stained his own soul for his men and close ones to suffer?

The carriage made its way into the Night, the Lieutenant making his way to the sickbay, he had to see to the cursed one, Costirceanu.

Late into the Night, a Wagon made its way led by an Ox in front of the Citadel Gates, the Wagon's load carried three of Vallaki's finest; naked, tied and gagged. A crude sign was displayed in defiance: Devil's Whores.

The guards were carried back in the sickbay in the early morning, rumors of two them being two lowly recruits, with the company of with notorious guard, Natasha Noica.

Workers removed the rubble all night long, getting the Citadel ready for the rescue efforts. It is said some outlanders hirelings were guarding the Citadel gates, protecting the workers from harm while they cleared the debris.

In the morning, guards can be seen wearing the proud brown uniforms. The ones from the pre-Jerovich era, perhaps because the rebel scum blew up the armory, or perhaps because they want to remember better years for what's to come.

*Members of the Morninglord faith were seen providing aid to the injured and weary. A triage centre set up in the tents in front of the citadel to stabilize the wounded, though quickly moved to the Sanctuary of Eternal Dawn in the Slum to shelter from snow and cold. Father Ilie, Mother Ana and others were seen providing aid during the darkest hours after the explosion.*

A well-dressed man with Barovian features was seen aiding the workers from start to end, enduring the shrapnel of epxlosions by rebel-placed powder kegs and dividng his work between tending the injured and clearing away rubble.

Ex. Corporal Dragomir Katzinkaly, Barovian youth noted for his short but "eventful" service in the Vallaki Garda until the end of the Invidian war, has answered Barovia's call for good men and returned to arms in he military as a mere recruit. Some Barovians are ambivilant about his return- none could deny his skill or dedication, but the number of outlanders who remember him that were heartened by his return to the uniform is a little strange. And that he seems reticent to beat, stab, set on fire, or otherwise properly discipline outlanders unless directly ordered is of concern. No one can deny his skill with a blade though.

With the standing order that Guards not leave the Citadel at night, when not on patrol through the city or outskirts Dragomir can be found either in his bunk, intently pouring over foreign books about war and weapons; or in the training room working over the dummies with such intensity that he seems to be in a barely contained rage, hammering at the dummies with such ferocity he has to rotate daily or break them.

*Prayers to the Morninglord can be heard through the South East wing. The Name Ovidiu is heard often among them. Strangely the inmates within that block have become calm, some would say peaceful.*

Words of tension at the Citadel as the Lieutenant of the guard Barnabás Krovache was expelled on a whim. Those that dare speak about it, mention Dagris becoming rash, violent; his regaining of the bottle habit also is amongst the rumors circulating on his behalf. Everyone is on the edge; some speak of recent events having had an impact on the Captain's stability; some speculate the return of ex-guard Termas Lamphrey is the cause, while others believe the Captain's life is catching up on him.

Meanwhile, some saw at early dusk, having seen a Carriage with the Zarcroft emblem to its side carry a prisoner, they speak of a somber scene, the man was missing a leg.

Word spreads that the ex-guard Tiberiu Mocvidek somehow gained entrance into the citadel, and badly mutilated the Morninglordian prisoner Horatiu Trandafir, before being subdued and jailed by the guards. Tiberiu was later found in his cell, dead, by assumed suicide, with chewed Belladonna root in his mouth. Perhaps the choice of death - the fatally-poisonous, but sacred Belladonna, was a symbol of the cults which poison and defile Barovia. Many others simply say Tiberu was a madman, as he was bound for the Zarcroft Asylum the next morning.

Soldiers, fresh off patrol gossip in barracks and in the dinning hall, about Corporal Iorgovan's failling health. The old wardog has gained weight and his hair has begun turning grey. Wrinkles have begun to etch deep lines on his once jovial face. The talk continues how "Old Iorgovan" is letting the stress of the Stravokov Murder Investigation get to him. Gregori is seen spending long hours, deep into the night in his office reading and writing reports concerning the investigation. He been heard cursing the name "Toskalov" under his breath.

Junior garda expresses concern over their commanders health. Many a young soldiers count themselves lucky for the Corporal's stern yet fair training. Training which has saved many a young recruits hide in battle.

Rumors spread through the Citadel, about Corporal Iorgovan's constant streak of bad luck. Not only has the burn wounds to his face and head not healed, but it appears he has gained an infection form the scars. Yet the Old Wardog insists the intelligence gathered from his expedition deep into the sewers was worth it. But was his health worth the price?

Former Lance Draguta is seen leaving the Citadel gates for a final time, a large box in her arms and a sad look on her face, one last look and she turns away before her emotions run to high

Corporal Gregori Iorgovan left the citadel early this morning for some well earned leave. Its commonly known that he spends at least a month every year during the fall harvest at his family's farm west of Vallaki.

Recently promoted Lance Corporal Cosmin Slabu has been strangely absent from the training room at nights.
The former Private could in the past be seen and heard training until past midnight almost every day.

Some say he has been spending a lot of time in civvies, wandering off after patrol towards the Broken Bell.
It is rumored that someone actually saw him smiling - the first time since his accident.

Talk spreads within the barracks and in the dinning hall that Recruit Vonovich has a unique talent for turning stale bread, rotting pork and stewed cabbage into a culinary delicacy's. Jokes and comments of Vonovich making a good house wife are heard throughout the lower enlisted quarters. Yet no one is foolish enough to repeat the joke to Vonovich's face.

More than one guard has been heard echoing the monicker, "Recruit Housewife" behind Vonovich's back.

Numerous soldiers, enlisted and officers alike notice that Old Iorgovan spends late hours writing, correcting and rewriting the draft for the new Vallaki Guard Manual. Younger soldiers admire his dedication. But older soldiers question his motives.

The priestess Lyndis Seraphim, one who has aided the guards on a series of occassions, was seen entering the Citadel on her own volition a couple days back. She hasn't yet been seen outside its walls. Concerned friends at the gates received only word that she was unharmed.
