NWN running on new systems
« on: June 28, 2015, 01:31:47 PM »
Anyone have this problem?

I get this 98% of the time. Takes nearly 30 minutes or more sometimes every time I need to log in, and that includes crashes, swapping characters, minimizing the screen, so on. I am finding nwn doesn't really run very well on Win 7-8.1. I am running 8.1 and while the picture is fine, -this- is the bane of the game. Any one trouble shoot this?

I updated the drivers, and now the message pops up more then before. I've been trying to log in for the last hour and a half. Any suggestions?

Can't say I get this problem on my 8.1 laptop but I would say try all the usual culprits first. Compatibility Mode first, I believe Windows XP Service pack 3 is the most recommended to try.

I got the same issues, for people looking at this in the future, in my time, when it said it was in compatibility mode, it didn't go into compatibility mode, and I had to do it manually.

Compatibility mode actually doesn't run at all on my system. So what i ended up doing was going through the trouble shooter, and selecting that it previously worked on XP service pack 3, and it asked if i wanted to test it in that setting. I did, and it worked, so it asked if i wanted to run it in that setting always. I said yes, and so far, so good. We'll see next time too.

That is compatibility mode, just applied through a wizard.

That's the same as me, I just forgot it was a wizard.

If it's the same thing, why are "compatibility mode" and this option completely different options?

I play NWN on Windows 8.1 and I am not using any compatibility modes.

You DO want to make sure you run the game as administrator, though.  That fixes a whole host of problems with the game not being able to access certain drivers, OS components, networking, etc.

You can right click your NWN shortcut icon and select Run as Administrator.

If you'd like to make that automatic every time you launch NWN, do the following:
  • Right Click your NWN shortcut and select Properties
  • On the Shortcut tab, click the Advanced button
  • Check the box that says Run as Administrator
  • Click OK on both dialog windows to close them

That should do it.

Currently Playing:
Conner o'Clan Cunningham, Cando Weaselbite

On the sidelines but ready for action:
Tychon Corynian, Bjarna Blitzthorn, Remo Fenberry, Yerrith Greenstone, Gryllus Athens, Pristi Feld

They aren't. One is manually configured, the other configured by a wizard that has a bunch of other possible outcomes.
