People say they are losing hours of play, just manually save your characters every 5 minutes, it will not avoid external losses, but your experience points and inventory will be intact, in theory.

That also works for merchant who keep losing their stuff because of crash.

Manually save your character before setting your stuff down and don't save until you have everything back, this way, if the server crash you won't lose a single gold piece  :P

Just crashed for the fourth time in under an hour, something seems a bit haywire!

I'd say for the moment, like about 3-6 hours for any DMs not to try to login. Let the server get stable and then try. I gave up about an hour ago because it crashed on me.

Taking a while to come back since it last crashed, has it been taken offline for maintenance or something?

It's weird -- I haven't had a problem at all.

The server's going crazy! It's up for about two minutes, then it shuts off really quickly and the message:

"The server has gone down. Your server-side character has been saved."

That's me, sorry, had to do some adjustments and brought down the server quickly before people would start doing stuff. Should be over now :)

I've noticed that the server has been getting increasingly more stable lately, but I think that it could be improved further if players were mindful of actions that cause lag and crashes. Namely having large amounts of people in the entry hall can cause a lot of lag for people trying to load in and even crash them or the server. Everyone rushing to log on to the server as soon as it comes up can also contribute to a crash, give it some time to settle and let people log in gradually. I've also seen an increasing amount of items left on the floors of areas instead of being put into a shop or a trash bin, this also can contribute to lag and even crashes. There are times where I will walk into an areas and see dozens upon dozens of notes, discarded items, or even loot findings that people dropped due to encumbrance.

If we all just keep in mind that we need to take it easy on the server for a while, we can improve performance greatly.

Agreed. I initiated that last reset after seeing the state of the temple crypts. Never seen so many items laying around.

When logging in, people should check the ping in the server selection screen -- under 200 is a nice smooth experience, as it starts climbing things get steadily worse.

Trashcans (or "garbage pits" or whatever you want to call them) would be nice in dungeons.  Keep Ravenloft Clean!

Most of us don't use the server selection screen anymore. That's so 2014.
