Where the Sun don't shine
« on: December 20, 2024, 09:47:24 PM »
A single drop of water lands in a shallow puddle which echoes in the otherwise eerie silence of the stone room. Illumination comes only in the form of a sconce hung on a wall on the other side of the iron bars, providing a small spotlight to the area directly outside of his accommodations. More than seven days had passed since he'd had a proper meal, surviving only on the protein he'd find crawling on the walls, or the stale bread that was occasionally afforded to him.

"Vaaaaahhhhhnnnnnnnn...." an unsteady voice breaks the silence, accompanied by the sound of a metal blade scraping against the stone floor. "...Vaaaahhhnnnnnnn...." Without lungs and without a tongue, the skeletal creature still somehow manifested a shrill voice, approaching him on the hour, almost every hour, since his abduction. A night's rest was hard to come by.

Each hour, it approached the iron bars and remained just out of reach. There, it would repeat its call. "Vaaaaahhhhnnnn..." It took no questions, and it gave no answers. And after those few moments, it would turn, its blade once more scraping along the stone floor as it retreated further into the darkness where the torch light did not reach. "Vaaaahhhhhnnn...." it would continue to call, until its sound no longer echoed in the stony halls of wherever he was.

His cracked lips lowered to the shallow puddle, desperately drinking up the unclean water in a search of hydration. Maybe this time most of it will stay down...

He focused so much on the puddle that he did not hear the approaching determined steps of something else at his door.
