Repose Domain
« on: September 13, 2015, 04:57:45 AM »
I was just looking over all the available domains for clerics to choose from and this one caught my attention

Repose Domain

Granted Powers:
Final Rest: If the cleric has twice as many levels as the undead have Hit Die, the undead are instantly destroyed.

That sounds nice, unless you know that it's exactly how turn undead works already

Turn Undead
Use: selected. If the character has twice as many levels as the undead have hit dice, the undead are instantly destroyed.

I'm curious if this was a typo, intentional or an oversight. It seems to me that, if that's the intended "granted power", it shouldn't be listed. It's a power that all clerics have so listing it under granted for that domain is misleading to players who might not know any better. It's also possible that the fact this domains granted power was already something any cleric could do was an oversight, or maybe the power wasn't typed up properly. In any case I thought it worth pointing out.

Turn undead does not work that way on PoTM. Because of Ravenloft it only turns them as in forces them to run away

My cleric has actually been killing undead with Turn Undead, I remember a Desert Zombie just flat out popping yesterday, without the Repose domain. Is the mechanic broken, maybe?

You can definitely destroy undead with turn. I've done it and seen it done.

So, either that's a bug or this domain's power is worthless

Indeed this may have to be reworked, the Repose domain power works as explained in the Ravenloft setting. But thats not entirely the case for "Turn Undead". In theory, on Ravenloft, undead are harder to turn (which is still true on PotM) and are only destroy if they have nowhere to escape to (which is not the case on NWN) or if you have the repose domain. Suggestions to ajust that? Maybe a +1 bonus on Turn Undead checks?
Best Regards!

A +1 bonus seems fitting, that's a fantastic idea.

The Sun Domain already gives a +1d4 to turn undead checks

Thanks for the heads up. I'll fix that for the next update; clerics without the Repose domain aren't supposed to destroy undead they turn.
