Public Statement from the Revolutionaries
« on: February 23, 2015, 01:05:45 AM »
"Brothers and sisters, citizens all – the reign of the wretched tyrant Foquelaine has ended! The miserable chickenhawk fell from his nest at an opera's premiere, and his supporters have all either died defending his roost or fled! The question that likely rests on the lips of all in Dementlieu is, of course, 'what now?'

Shall we be going back to the way things were under the reign of the corpulent pig Marcel Guignol? The answer, of course, is a resounding NON, my friends! Have we slain the one holding our leash, only to hand that leash over to a new master or mistress, in the hopes that he might be nicer? Again, the answer is NON! Shall we let those who were directly responsible for our suffering, the aristocratic supporters of Guignol's regime, of Foquelaine's regime, go unpunished? NON, I say! Shall we let Pauline Jenout's death to have been in vain? NON, I say again!

We shall right all the wrongs that were ignored by the governments of the past! We shall have a government that answers to the common man, and attends to the needs of all! All who are Dementlieuse shall have a say, all who are citizens shall have a voice! In the meantime, we who compose the vanguard of the revolution have formed the Grand Assembly, a legislative body made up of all walks of life, not just the crème-de-la-creme. We represent your interests! We represent your hopes, your dreams! We represent the future of Dementlieu!

Of course, there are those who wish to see the old regime restored. There are those who wish things to be brought back to the way things were. These counter-revolutionaries need to be ferreted out, and revealed to us. Bring to the attention of the Gendarmerie any and all who may be working against the new government, against the change we seek to bring! We thank you, of course, for your vigilance and service to the cause.

Long live the revolution!

Decrees from the Grand Assembly:

- Those who speak in favor of aristocratic rule or speak in a way that is deemed counter to the revolution, will be subject to a trial overseen by a revolutionary tribunal! Those found to be guilty of counter-revolutonary talk or of engaging in actions working against the people, will be executed humanely, via the guillotine.

- The work-day shall be eight hours long, and no longer! A mandatory minimum will be established for wages, ensuring that employers do not deprive their workers of basic human needs. Basic safety standards in workhouses will be enforced, and those who are injured on the job shall be compensated properly.

- The despicable practice of child labor shall be abolished, and education shall be made available to all. Our children are the future.

- All titles are to be stripped. All men and women are equal, and the only acceptable titles are “monsieur/madame/mademoiselle” and “citizen”. Any who are heard using the titles used during the old regimes shall be questioned by a revolutionary tribunal, their allegiances examined.

- The calendar used during by the Dementlieuse people prior to and during the Revolution of 707 shall be used in place of the standard calendar adhered to by the rest of the Core. We as a people are the most enlightened in the Core, and we need not resort to using a calendar popularized by a brutish, backwards tyranny. ((Click here, and then use the date listed under Today's Date, sans the year – the year is presently 0)).

- Wealth shall be redistributed from the wealthiest and most privileged of aristocrats and shall be used to feed, house, and clothe those who need it the most. Those who come from 'old money', those who have vast dragon-like hoards that they made via the toil of others shall find it used to help the common people of Dementlieu.

More decrees shall be made, as time goes on! Citizens are advised to keep themselves informed, for the changes we bring are many.

- Vive la révolution!

Decrees from the Grand Assembly:

- Three days of celebration shall take place, to begin forthwith, to celebrate the death of Dominic 'Le Chien' D'Honaire at the hands of heroes whose names are, as of right now, unsung! With his death, one can be assured that old regime and its trappings shall never return.

- The so-called 'little people' have been denied political rights for too long. They will be given the right to vote in future elections, alongside their larger brothers and sisters, so long as they are a citizen of Dementlieu, and have completed the necessary paperwork required.

- Issues domestic and foreign continue to plague our young country! In order to safeguard what we, the people, have created, an army of volunteers shall be created, to be directed, guided, and advised by members of the Gendarmerie. Membership in this group of volunteers is not restricted solely to citizens; residents and foreign guests can join. If interested in joining, contact recruiters Edmond Montte or Juste Marceaux.

- Vive la révolution!

Decrees from the Grand Assembly:

- Juste Marceaux is named the sole commander of the People's National Army, and is given the right to organize it and lead it as he sees fit. His bravery and willingness to lead the people in these dark times is an example to us all, and thus we name him a member of this Grand Assembly.

- We ask all who are able to do so, to enlist and see to it that our country does not fall into the grip of the Hawk's talons. Those who cannot fight are urged to seek shelter where they believe they will be safe in the onslaught. Take only what can be carried, and only what is needed for survival.

- The Grand Assembly reminds all that Dementlieu has repelled the Hawk numerous times before; while we understand the worry of some, this will be no different. Dementlieu will see Falkovnia's attempt at invasion and annexation fail, just as his attempts have failed in the past. We nearly need to remain strong, united in the face of this looming threat.

Vive Dementlieu!
