Game Freezes
« on: September 30, 2014, 07:06:12 AM »
Hi All,

I hope you all can help.  For the past couple of months I've hardly been able to play  potm.  Every time I log in almost immediately soon as I start moving my game freezes up and and I have Ctrl-alt-delete to get out of it. This was never happening prior to a couple of months ago.  I am running windows 7 (64 bit) and have the compatibility set to windows xp SP 3.  I've re-downloaded the hak packs and everything, and am still having the issue.   Please let me know if anyone has any advice as to how to fix it, thanks!

Have you the latest graphics drivers installed for your video card?

Yeah, just did that yesterday in fact. I was hoping that was the issue but it didn't seem to fix anything :\  my graphics card is an AMD Radeon HD 7700 if that helps at all.

Are yo on an i7 or multiple core computer? If so, go to your NWN folder, open the nwnplayer.ini with notepad.

Now, under:

[Game Options]
Client CPU Affinity=-2 <- Change the value here to -2 or -1

Hope that might help. :)

Great thank you! It seems to be working now. I first set it to -2 and still froze up then set it to -1 and seems to be running good now!

Okay so this is still happening fairly often. Not as much, but still quite a bit. Any other suggestions?

You have an AMD Video Card?
Do you have Shiny Water on? Turn that @&#& off. You will crash like a mofo.

Heard that Shiny Water caused bugs (or in this case, since my computer is a toaster) crashes. Hope things work out for ya!

NWN has always had issues on Radeon cards.

Yeah, now that you mention that I sorta remember something about issues with radeon cards from back in the day. Seems to be working pretty good now though, so hopefully it stays that way.  Thanks to everyone that offered suggestions, I really appreciate it
