So I noticed it's not a class skill. Why not?

Sorcs are not charming.. they are mean and smelly.

They also lack all sorts of intra-personal skills.   Locked in tall towers, bugs and books.

Cyber bullets cause no pain.

Our Influence is an amalgamation of Bluff and Persuade. Sorcerers get Bluff in 3.5, but NWN is based on 3.0. It's something that could potentially be changed.

I have an Influence skill for you, it's called 'Dominate Person'. Alternatively, the buffs that I give you that I could remove by resting at any time if you are being mean to me.

What is the counter check for Influence?   Concentration?

Rolls aren't really applicable in RP unless a DM asks/tells you to do it, imo.

Deciding if the player is actually being convincing with their roleplay and not their rollplay. Convincing roleplay doesn't even need a roll in my humble opinion.

I agree. I think it would be in keeping with the general rule culture of this chat to treat this as quasi-3.5 rules and gives Sorcerors Bluff, and therefore Influence as class skill. Plus I think it would be in keeping with the themes of Sorcerors.

Yeah, sorcs should get influence!

After all, charisma influences people! ;)

I am more talking about for the sorcs who want to take advantage of the influence not for the rolls, but for the NPC's (as it should be considered first and foremost). Not every sorc is going to be good with people, but they are CHA focused and should also have the opportunity to be beloved for their beauty and charisma. They should be able to use their cha to get good prices at vendors (influence helps appraise checks) and if it is invested in, why not take advantage of the perks to their OCR?

I was just asking, because I've had people roll Influence before and wasn't sure what the proper counter-roll would be so I just RP'd it out instead.

Either. It's a politity to roll back. it isn't necessary. If they are RPing their skill it should feel right. Sometimes I roll just to be funny, but I rp my skill primarily, and I've never had any problems with appropriate responses. But primarily the skill does other things, mechanical things, that make sense for the class to have access to.

..I got a better question, why should Sorcerer's get Influence for a skill? They're magic is based on raw power and emotions, experience by doing and what not. No study involved what so ever, say for seeing "Wat dis power do".
The reason other classes have influence is due to being quasi-social characters within a city/organization. Sorcerer's are a far cry from a Noble bright paladin, an orderly and wise monk, the cunning urban rogue, or a bard who plays to others egos.

Neither of the skills that we combined into Influence have ever been class skills for sorcerers in NWN.

And I put forth the question, why should it?

If you got enough int, you have enough points and so little skills to put em in. Merely pump 2 points into influence if one wishes to be a Jafar.

Not to be the guy.

But I think the more calculating and studying wizard is more fit for influence since they sit in a smelly tower full of books. They probably some time read Jafars Tome of Rhetorical speech.

True as that may be, Sorcs are Cha based, and so is Influence. I am still not seeing the "why not" part of the arguments made, other than the original skills were not sorc class skills. To me it makes just as much sense for sorcs as it does for bards, rogues, and clerics. Infact, I think most classes has it as a class skill, except for fighter and barbarian. I haven't checked wizard. *shrugs*

Personally, I agree with you. It does seem a bit odd that a Charisma based class doesn't have access to a skill like Influence...

they are pretty boys and girls with no talent at influencing people *sage nods to the sarcasm*

though I do agree that they should have access to it, they are after all a charisma based class, and in 3.5 don't they get it as well?

No they get bluff.

And charisma do not mean you are good at influencing people.
